Who: Luna & Dom
What: First Date!
When: May 4th (backdated)
Where: Dom's Home
Warnings: Snogging on the sofa
Luna was so incredibly nervous for her date with Dom. She had tried on about four different dresses before she had finally settled on the one that she thought was perfect for the evening. She had paired it with a pair of sandals that matched in color, and just a simple blue cloak that would help fight any cold chill that might be in the air if she left too late. Her blonde locks had been left down, and she wore just enough make-up that it hid the dark circles that were growing under her eyes. She wouldn’t admit to it aloud, but she was so very excited about her expedition. It was a vacation she was looking forward to, she knew she would at least get some rest the first night.
She had apparated just down the street from the orchard, wanting to use the walk to clear her head. She was shaking off her nerves. By the time she had arrived at his doorstep, she felt those butterflies in her stomach. While she had been trying to sort it all out since she met him, she now knew what those flutters meant. She liked Dom, enough that she wanted to get to know him more. She reminded herself that was why she was there, to have fun, enjoy herself, and get to know him more.
“Just be yourself.” She whispered to herself, seconds before she lifted her hand up to knock at the door. She shifted nervously in the spot she stood, one hand coming up to fluff through her hair nervously as she waited for him to answer. Her smile was bright when she heard the door open, bright sky blue eyes lifting to meet his. “Hello! How are you?”
Dom hurried to the door when Luna had knocked and greeted her with a warm smile. “Hullo yourself. I’m well, come on in.” She looked lovely in the dress and sandals, with her hair trailing down like that and Domenic had to concentrate on the evening ahead. “Are you ready to cook?” He grinned again and clapped his hands together, an expectant look on his face. “I have everything ready in the kitchen. Can I get you a drink?”
He motioned to another room within the modest farm-style house. It was homey and probably looked like it could use a woman’s touch, but he tried to keep it as clean and welcoming as he could.
Luna stepped inside the house, her eyes curiously sweeping the house. It was beautiful, she thought it was very fitting of the man that she was there to see. She slipped her sandals off near the door, before she came back to where he was. “I would love a drink, whatever you’re having. I’m nervous to cook, I’m not very good. I should warn you, I don’t know many cooking terms. I tried to look some up before I came over here, what does it mean to cube something?” She had found that term to be confusing, she kept picturing perfect little squares.
Not that Domenic was actively trying to get Luna to have a drink, he went to the ice box and poured out something he’d been working on. A pale amber ale infused with peach and handed it over, smiling kindly. “Don’t worry about it, we’ll just have a good time. And to cube something means you just cut up whatever ingredient into squares. They don’t need to be perfect, just square-ish.”
That definitely made sense, she gave a soft laugh. “Here I thought they had to be perfect little cubes.” She gave a playful eyeroll at her own silly thoughts, “Your house is lovely.” She didn’t know if asking for a tour was too forward. He had gotten a tour of her home, only because he had been helping her out with a plumbing problem. She wasn’t going to worry over it just now, she knew she was being silly even thinking about that.
He raised an eyebrow when she said his house was lovely. He always thought it could use some work and tried to upgrade and repair when he could, but it was nice to hear it made a good first impression. “Thank you. The meal we’re going to cook has to go in the oven for a bit, so I can give you a tour while it’s cooking.”
Luna lit up, laughing softly. “Thank you, I’d love a tour. I didn’t know if it seemed too forward to ask?” She figured she was one of the few random people that were interested in what each house looked like. She supposed that came from living inside a Rook since she was small, and now her shell shaped home.
Dom smiled pleasantly and shrugged. “It’s not forward at all… there’s just not a whole lot to be seen.” The house was open, like a farm house with the kitchen, dining and living room as one great big space with a staircase off the side leading to two bedrooms and a large bathroom.
“Thank you, I think I’m just too curious for my own good.” She gave a soft laugh, “What are we going to be making tonight?” She asked curiously, she didn’t think they had discussed just what they would be making. Thankfully Luna was a try anything once kind of woman, and she did not have any diet restrictions. She had debated becoming a vegetarian for a time being but instead had just become more conscious about where she bought her meat and how the animals were raised and treated.
“Uhhhh chicken pie. I know it’s kind of traditional and a bit boring but, we’ll be making the pastry from scratch too, so that should be interesting.” The recipe had a little bit of everything in it - chopping, saute, pastry, baking, making a simple rue… but nothing that Domenic thought Luna wouldn’t be able to handle. “I even got fresh peas.”
“It doesn’t sound boring at all!” Luna laughed softly as she gently nudged her hip against his. “Where do we start with it all? Do we do the shell first?” She asked curiously, “I don’t think I’ve ever had one that had fresh food in them. I only tend to have them when on the road for some reason.” And she had found them frozen, they were a miraculous little thing. They tasted horrible but they were filling.
A quirk of his lips appeared when Luna bumped hips with him. “Yes, the shell first. We need to make the pastry and then bake it slightly before putting the filling and top in.” It was going to be easier with magic. Doing it the muggle way was fun sometimes but, being magical had it’s definite advantages.
“Do you cook often? I tend to go out more than not. I spend most of my time at the Leaky. I’m sure Hannah’s getting sick of my face taking up her tables.” She tended to spread out on a table with all of her work things and school things. It was the best place that Luna had found to get work done. It was only recently she had started trying to study at home more often.
“I try to, if I have everything in the house. If I haven’t gone to the markets then I eat at work when my shift is done.” Then he shook his head at her, not believing that anyone could get sick of seeing her. “I’m sure Hannah’s glad you’re there. You’re good friends, aren’t you?” Dom had all the ingredients set out already and a recipe for the both of them to look at while they worked. “So we need the flour, butter, ice water…” he levitated the butter and flour into the bowl and set the pastry cutter to making it into something that resembled pea meal. “And then the ice-water binds it… just add it in spoon by spoon.” It was Luna’s turn then, after showing her how to start, she could finish.
Luna rather liked learning about Dom. He was an interesting wizard that had lived a much different life than she had. She smiled when he knew they were good friends, it meant he paid attention when she spoke. Not everyone always did. “We are! She's one of my closest friends. We have been friends since school but since I came home last year we have only gotten closer. I think we were supposed to meet, for whatever reason.. You and I, that is. We have too many connections, we have just missed meeting each other properly I'm sure.” It had all just been a matter of being in the same place at the same time. She gave him a dreamy smile, hoping he didn't find her to be creepy or strange.
Dom was continuing to show Luna the steps to make the pastry while listening, glad that she and Hannah were good friends. Though he raised a pleased eyebrow when she’d said she felt ‘they’ were meant to meet. “We do at that. It’s sort of a wonder how we never did before.” Pausing the cooking for a moment, he took the time to beam at her and continue.
The smile made her heart stop, in one of those breathless sort of moments. Here she had thought he’d assume she was a bit off, he didn’t seem to think that at all. Her cheeks grew a bit pink, and she tried to focus on what he was showing her. As he showed her what he was doing, she had stepped closer so that she could see everything he was doing. Then it was suddenly her turn and big sky blue eyes turned to Dom, a nervous laugh leaving her. “Will you help me?” She asked, her wand already in her hand. She didn't want him to do it for her, she wanted him to help guide her hand. It was ridiculous but Luna was nervous, this was what they were eating for dinner! She didn't want to ruin it…
“Of course.” Dom said quietly and moved to stand behind Luna. She was a tall lady, but even so, he was taller and broad in comparison to her slender frame. Domenic took her wand hand and moved it just so while the water was being added. Pretty soon they had the perfect consistency, yet Dom still left his hand on hers. “See… easy, right?”
When she felt Dom’s hand on her’s, she felt that stomach flutter. She had almost dropped her wand in the process as well, it was his hand in her’s that kept it in place. Soon she relaxed though, watching as they finished up. She didn’t want to move though, and was relieved when he didn’t move away.
Luna turned though, facing him a bit better. “You’re really good at this.” She told him with a shy smile. Skyblue eyes were watching his, that familiar nervous flutter was plaguing her again. She was doing her best to ignore her, trying her best to remember to just be herself, not to think too hard about how close he was just now.
Dom’s eyes searched Luna’s face and he couldn’t help but notice the pink hue to her cheeks. She was very lovely, and slightly shy and ...well Dom couldn’t help letting go of her hand only to cup her face with it afterward. “I’ve had practice.” he said, with a bit of cheek to it if he was honest. Tentatively, he leaned in, hesitating only a second before kissing her lightly and hoping his beard wasn’t terribly scratchy.
Luna gave a soft laugh at his words, though then his hand was cupping her cheek and all thoughts had left. When he leaned in and kissed her, she stopped breathing for half a second. Her heart was hammering in her ears as she kissed him back, her own arms moving to slip around his neck. Her wand was still in hand, which she would realize a few moments later was ridiculous of her because as they were kissing, little stars and glitter shot out of the tip of her wand and covered his shoulder and her’s. It caused Luna to jump, breaking the kiss with a nervous giggle. “Sorry. I don’t think I’ve done any accidental magic in… Years.” She admitted, her cheeks a lot more pink than before.
When Luna’s arms were around his neck, Dom held her by her waist and was pleasantly surprised when she’d begun to kiss him back. She tasted like… candy sprinkles, if that was even possible. When the small glitter explosion went off, Dom couldn’t help a wry look and a chuckle. “It’s fine… just...call me Glitterbeard…” he said, combing a few stray bits that had landed in his dark beard. “I ….uhhh, couldn’t help myself.” he explained quietly and tucked a strand of Luna’s long blonde hair behind her ear.
“Glitterbeard?” She asked with a giggle, shaking her head. “At least you look very handsome with glitter in your beard?” She did reach up to try to comb a few of the bits of glitter she could still see in his beard. She giggled again when she was sure a few pieces would hang around for a bit after this. She knew glitter could stick when it wanted to, she had found glitter on her stomach weeks after her birthday party!
“I think that I rather like that you couldn’t.” Luna admitted in a soft voice, though her smile was bright. She was just shy, she knew she’d warm up eventually. She was already warming up to him as it was. When he tucked some of her hair back, she leaned a bit into the touch. Then, because she wanted to be bold herself, she set her wand down and then kissed him again. This time she was initiating the kiss, her stomach fluttering nervously.
Domenic was beaming and didn’t really mind if they even got to finish the cooking lesson - it seemed that they may get more chances in the future. “I guess it’s a good thing we didn’t go to one of the muggle cooking classes, I would’ve had to wait to kiss you until after.” Dom was holding Luna close and smiled into the kiss that she initiated. They stayed that way for awhile and Dom had his hand tangled in her long hair at one point.
Luna got a bit lost in the kiss. She hadn’t felt this giddy sort of romantic feeling in years, she was loving every minute of it. His beard felt wonderful, just scratchy enough to tickle but not bother her. His lips were so soft and moved so beautifully against her own. She broke the kiss after a long moment, smiling dreamily at him. “I’m very glad that we did not go to a muggle cooking class, I much prefer my class with you.”
“I’m not really the best teacher though, snogging my student like that.” he raised an eyebrow but still played with Luna’s hair.
“You’re in luck, as a Head Mistress,” A title she was still getting used to, “I have the authority to let it slide. I know how dangerous blondes can be.” She gave him a playful smile then, her stomach had passed the nervous fluttering stage, she was most definitely still nervous but she was a bit more confident. At least in this moment. She reached a hand up to lightly scratch his beard, taking advantage of being so close to him. “We should probably try to finish our meal though, otherwise you might be eating just dough.”
Another broad smile spread across his face when she touched at his beard lightly. “I suppose you’re right. Dough on it’s own is only good for bread.” A little reluctantly, Domenic pulled away from her and continued their lesson. The said dough went into the oven to pre-cook while he showed her how to dice everything. The vegetables went into the pan, along with the cubed chicken, then butter and flour to make the base of the sauce. “And now, when you add the stock, it’ll make a sauce.”
Dom nodded his head to the stock in a glass measuring cup, motioning for Luna to pour it in slowly while he set a wooden spoon to stirring it.
Luna followed all of his directions, paying close attention to everything he was teaching her, as well as enjoying being so close to him. She added the stock to the measuring cup and then went about slowly pouring it while he made the sauce. She was enjoying learning something new, cooking was always something that was a bit of a mystery to her. He made it seem so easy, though she knew if she tried to repeat this at home it would have disastrous results.
“So, about that tour..” Luna said with a coy smile, she knew she only wanted the tour now so that she could snog him again. The pot pie was in the oven though and they did have the time to kill.
The pie was easy enough to finish and put in the oven. Dom even set the dishes and implements they used to wash themselves and he clapped his hands together when Luna asked about the grand tour. “There’s not much to it.” he said with a laugh but motioned out into the living area.
Everything was open-concept, almost barn-like. There was a large living area with an L-shaped sofa, wooden coffee table and a telly in the corner. Just off to the side, closer to the kitchen there was a smallish dining area with a table that comfortably fit six, eight if they were to squeeze in. There was also a three-piece bathroom with a shower on the main floor. Dom led Luna to the stairs where on the second floor there were two bedrooms - his and a guest - and a larger bathroom. “That’s it. Homey… a little bit like a farm but, it is an orchard.” It wasn’t fancy by any means, but it was home.
Sky blue eyes were wide as Luna followed him around the home. It was very open, much like her own home. Though, where her room was a bit small on the inside, his was open and airy. He even had a dining room! She made do with her garden in the summer but her home would never host dinner parties, like she would like.
“The house is beautiful. I think farm houses are beautiful. Some of the most beautiful homes I've seen were on farms. There's something to be said about people who work with their hands. Their homes always show little hints of it..” Luna was rambling just a smidge but she really did like his home. It fit him perfectly, she thought.
“Thank you. It had been Grandad’s but he left the orchard to me and I’ve made some upgrades. Nothing huge, I wanted to keep most of it intact.” Dom was very proud of his home and the family business.
While most women would have asked for the tour so that they might end in the bedroom, Luna had wanted to see more of the house and snog on the couch. It was why when the tour had concluded, her hand had slipped into Dom’s just seconds before she stole a quick kiss. They were still upstairs, but Luna assumed they were headed back down.
Their dinner would still be a while so Dom had led them back downstairs, the small stolen kiss making him smile all the way. “We can relax until the timer goes off. I’d love to know how I did? As a teacher?” He let Luna find a spot that was comfortable and sat down very close to her. They’d already snogged in the kitchen so Domenic felt a calm comfort putting an arm around her shoulders.
As the pair got on the couch, Luna shifted to slip under his arm. She felt her heart race a bit as she looked up at him. “You were fantastic, even if that saucy little blonde distracted you.” Saucy was not a word that Luna would ever typically describe herself as, though it sounded amusing just now. She gave a soft giggle, before she pressed a kiss to his cheek. “I like you, you’re different.” Was said in a soft voice, moments before her hand came to rest on his chest and she leaned into him. She had not kissed him again though, she felt silly for wanting to do that so much. His beard just felt delicious. She had never kissed a man with a beard before and it tickled in a way that made those butterflies flutter in her stomach.
“Well, she certainly did distract me, but so long as neither of us got burnt, I call it a win.” Domenic was growing very fond of Luna. She was sweet and caring….and different, just as she said he was. “I guess we match then.” he whispered in her ear before placing a kiss to her cheek and waiting until their eyes met to snog her. They were comfortable there and Dom had felt excitement for the first time in a long time, with Luna there with him.
