Life almost felt like it was getting back to normal, and then the owl arrived with the delivery. The roses were absolutely stunning, and Astoria held them close to her nose, eyes closed as she inhaled the soft scent for a long moment. And then she set them up on display as the centerpiece of her dining room table and turned her attention to the note.
Her breath caught in her throat at the words, and even if Callie thought they weren't right, Astoria disagreed. Her heart fluttered in her chest, and she tried to convince herself it was just from the added reassurance that she and Callie would probably be able to get back to their friendship again. Because that was all she wanted from Callie.
Biting her lip, she went to find her phone and type out a response, only to stare at it for a long time. And then, she deleted it and went to her desk, sitting down and pulling a fresh bit of parchment to her. Callie had taken the time and effort to write to her and send her flowers, it was only right to take the time to write back to her proper.
Dearest Callie,
Of course I'll come.
The flowers are lovely, thank you for them. You were sweet to send them.
I'm sorry I've been so out of touch the last few weeks. I have hope that we'll both be better about it now, though.
Love always, Astoria
That done, she sent the note back with Callie's owl after giving it an owl treat she kept in stock even though she didn't have an owl.
