If Alec's initial question had made Theo uncomfortable, the follow up was like a stone thrown into a flock of crows. Theo put his cup down before he could drop it and his body language shifted from cautious to defensive; elbows drawn in, arms crossed clutching at himself, his core covered by the way he brought his knees closer and curled over a little. "Nothing happened." he said, not a shout but as crisp and closing as a guillotine blade.
When he wasn't comatose, crazy or stubborn, pure denial had been all the answer he'd given the Healers who'd spoken to him in the Janus Thickey ward. Pretending that nothing was happening had been command since it had all started and it had become a kind of shield for Theo since then, something he could even use to convince himself that things were okay. He realised almost as soon as he'd protested that Alec wasn't going to believe that, that he shouldn't have responded so blankly, but there was nothing he could do about that now.
"I mean, there was a- I was... some guys who knew me roughed me up a bit." he said vaguely, only a quarter of the truth if that. "I'm fine now though, I'm fine."
