Backstory ZJ and Kevin
It was such a nice day out and ZJ was so sick of being cooped up in the common room. It was too loud, there was too much going on, and she just wanted to be able to think for two minutes. It was what got her up and outside the castle on a beautiful spring day. There were others outside but she seemed to be the only one that wanted to sit outside by the big tree that was near the lake. She had a few books in front of her that she was supposed to be studying, instead there were candy wrappers all over one of the open textbooks and she was scribbling words on a bit of parchment that looked to be making the design of an eyeball. It was a poem she had wrote and was now trying to make it look unique, and strange. Her dark locks had been left down, to spill over her robes. There were a few locks that had been turned blue, another a purple color. She had been experimenting with being able to change certain strands different colors. One of her muggle cousins had shown her hair dye and she had been trying to recreate it with magic. She had been a little successful, it lasted just a few days but it looked awesome to her. It wasn’t until someone stood in front of her, blocking the sun she had been using to write with. Her head tipped back then, one hand coming up to use as a visor against her forehead, to see a giant of a boy standing there. “Oy, giant. Move your arse.” She was lady like. “Wot, like this??” Kevin said with a cheeky grin and turned around, shaking his arse in a little dance. If he wasn’t careful, he’d probably get something thrown at him. As his ass shook in front of her, ZJ smirked and a laugh slipped from her without her really wanting it to. She didn’t want to encourage such behavior, but he was cute, and it was amusing. She gave him an eye roll that only an angsty teen could. He halted his dance and went to sit beside ZJ Flume. Kevin had seen her around a lot and only now the splash of colour in her dark hair caught his eye. “So, why does everyone call you Zee Jay hmm?? Shouldn’t it be Zed Jay?” Being a Ravenclaw, Kevin was sort of an outcast - he always thought he had belonged in Hufflepuff, but no one ever argued with ‘The Hat’. “I’m Kevin by the way…. I like your eyeball.” he said, being rude and looking over at what she had been writing, or it seemed she was drawing. “Why should it be Zed Jay?” She asked then, her brows perked. “ZJ is for Zahara Jane,” She gave a slight shrug, “Why do they call you Kevin?” It seemed only fair since he had asked about her name. At the mention of her eye, she looked down at it and then tipped her head at it. “Thank you. It’s supposed to be a poem..” She gave a slight shrug, “I think your giant shadow messed me up though so I may have to scrap it.” She was teasing, he hadn’t ruined a thing by standing in her way. “Because we’re English and … you know what, nevermind. It wouldn’t sound as good anyway.” Kevin had raised his eyebrows, impressed at what the ZJ had stood for. He knew exactly what she was playing at too. They called him Kevin because that was his name, and thus had the answer to his own question. ZJ worried for a moment that she had offended him, but he didn’t run away or leave. He stayed seated next to her so she assumed she had not in fact offended him. That was a plus. “So the poem was in the eye?” he looked mock-offended at her, that his shadow had somehow skewed her drawing. “Don’t scrap it... I’ll have to watch where I cast my fucking shadow from now on.” That was the other thing about Kevin; he swore. A lot. She laughed at his look, shaking her head and grinning a bit. “Good, watch where you cast that thing. If you don’t watch it, you might create some shadow envy in some of the other boys around here.” She used her quill to point towards the open around them and the no one that was there. Kevin laughed a little and scratched his knee. “Yes, I am the envy of all the blokes around cause of my shadow. Oh and the fucking ear envy is the worst.” He threw a wink at ZJ just to let her know he was poking fun at himself. Honestly, his ears had been one of the first things she had noticed but she would have never commented on them. The fact that he seemed to be joking, but it was a mean comment, confused her a moment. “They should be, you're hot.” Even though she had little experience dating she wasn't shy at all about making first moves and speaking her mind. Kevin’s eyebrows raised when ZJ came out and said that he was hot. He scratched the back of his neck because he wasn’t expecting that at all. “Nice tree you have here. Do you often draw or compose poetry under the tree?” Kev knew it sounded like a cheesy pick-up line but he didn’t care. It really did sound like some silly pickup line but ZJ was smiling, it had maybe made her a bit pink in the cheeks with a blush. “Any tree honestly but this one was free. Planning to join me sometime?” “Maybe I am. You gonna kick me out of the presence of your tree lest I cast some unseemly shadow?” Kevin was all about being open to anything and anyone at ANY time, and ZJ was just the kind of girl he usually fancied. He didn’t like games or pussyfooting around anything. “All depends on whether you bring blokes round here to snog too.” “Only if you don’t move.” ZJ said with a playful smile, though his next question may have caught her a bit by surprise. “Do I look like the type to just bring any boys around here to snog?” She gave him her best bitch face, though as soon as she was able to hold it on her face, she grinned seconds later. “I don’t typically bring blokes anywhere to snog unless I’m dating them…” And, because she wanted him to know, “Which, I’m not dating any of them currently.” “So just stay perfectly still.” Kevin straightened up and cleared his throat. “Like a good boy, not cast any shadows…” he couldn’t help it, he had to laugh, not being able to stay still for long. He was always very animated. “I could always petrify you if you’d like?” She told him teasingly, playfully using her quill to poke at his leg. “Not just any blokes yer?” He got her subtle little hint and even less subtle admission that she wasn’t dating anyone. “Really. So there’s a vacancy under the tree for snogging. Good to know.” Kevin quirked a very charming smile and tugged a wee lock of purple hair that had fallen on her shoulder. When he tugged at her hair, she let out a soft yelp and gave him an eye roll. “Oh? Are you planning to bring anyone special?” The smile had made her stomach give a flip, she sort of hoped he was flirting with her and didn’t mean that he did in fact have another girl in mind to be snogging under the tree. She may not have known well but he was so friendly, cute, and that smile… It kept making her smile stupidly back at him. “Nope, no one special. Not yet anyways.” Kevin wasn’t completely adept at flirting, but he did have his ways. The little hair tug had gotten ZJ to react enough where he could see her smile. She was incredibly cute and she seemed to like playing along. “I didn’t know I’d be put on the spot like that… minx.” ZJ smirked at him, “Minx.” She repeated as she shifted just a little closer to him. “I don't think anyone has ever called me that…” And then she did an incredibly bold move, but one she had been doing since small. Kissing the boys first. She put one hand on his cheek and leaned in to kiss him. Kevin was surprised, to say the least, but he wasn’t complaining at all. He grinned after the small kiss and laughed a bit. “Wow… I can’t fucking believe that worked. I should’ve just called you a minx straight off.” He didn’t want to give her the impression that he was only in it for the snogs. No, he had seen ZJ around and had kept his eyes on her for quite a while. “Would you be completely opposed to sitting with me at the next Quidditch match?” ZJ just chucked at his reaction, shaking her head as she set her notebook down. “I don't think anyone has called me that before. It's one of those pet names that I love, like dollface.” “Wot, you don’t like ‘baby’ or ‘luv’. Only the best pet names for you I guess.” He had no aversion to pet names. Kevin never gave a flying fig about what people thought of him, who he chose to spend his time with and what he said. So giving ZJ pet names would be fun, if he got the chance to. “Ew, those are some of the worst!” ZJ laughed then, “My father calls everyone luv..” Then his next question took her by surprise, she blushed just a bit. Kissing boys first was easy, dates were a whole other thing and so far outside her realm of knowing what to do. She nodded her head then, “I would really like that…” She admitted then, her cheeks still a bit pink. “Which teams are playing?” She wondered if it was their houses. Kevin was well aware he was doing this all backwards - there should be a date first before snogging. Oh well, too late to worry about it “I don’t know to be honest. But if it means I get to sit next to you and shout profanities during the match, it doesn’t matter.” Once again, he had taken her by surprise. A softer smile graced her lips, her cheeks going completely pink, and her head tipped to look down. She wasn’t the confident girl anymore, the one comment had made her little heart swell. “Thank you. I’m not used to compliments.” She was apparently talking to the ground because she still couldn’t look up at him. She felt so silly and it was for that reason that she peeked up at him, through her dark lashes. An oddly shy look for her. Kevin knew he had his huge goofy, grin on his face and he had even angled it towards ZJ to try to get her to look at him. “It’s because you don’t get enough of them I’d wager. I should probably get on that yeah?” Being fairly forward was Kevin’s specialty and he reached over to tug on ZJ’s pinky finger and then leaned in to snog her yet again. He wasn’t entirely sure if ZJ had been eating sweets before he had shown up, or if her lips just tasted like candy to him. She would swear later that the kiss had literally taken her breath away. Which, it had, in that delicious way that made the butterflies in her stomach do a fluttering dance. It was the first time that she could hear heartbeat in her ears. She had never had someone be so sweet and it had stolen her heart in the first ten minutes she had met the boy. She was utterly doomed. The kiss wasn’t long but he’d smiled at her afterwards. “So is that a yes, that you’ll sit with me?” ZJ bit her full lower lip, her heart was beating out of her chest. She nodded her head “Yes, I’ll sit with you and I’ll curse at whoever on whatever team with you too. We’ll get kicked out by McGonagall.” She laughed then, a laugh that reached all the way up to her eyes and made them sparkle. Kevin laughed and nodded as well, looking forward to whichever teams were going to be playing next - he didn’t care as long as he got to sit with ZJ. “I think we should try to get kicked out. Maybe we’ll wind up in detention together? Could be fun?” He made a small pouting face and shrugged afterwards. Her eyes grew wide when he mentioned detention together, laughing a moment later. “I hear they send children to the Forbidden Forest for detention, I might try to stay out of detention. I’m not very good with the creatures.” She motioned in the direction of the forest, laughing as she shook her head. “I will however endure and try for detention if you promise to keep me safe?” “Oh of course. What kind of detention date would I be if I didn’t keep you safe?” Kevin straightened up and puffed his chest up slightly to emphasize his frightening stature. “Who knows, we may find another tree we like to snog under as well? Oh, and a Forbidden one at that.” A saucy grin was plastered all over his face before he dissolved into laughter. “I’m only fooling though, I wouldn’t want to get you into any trouble. It’s just fun to think about sometimes isn’t it?” ZJ just giggled as he puffed himself up, shaking her head at that smile. She had a feeling that he’d definitely be getting her into trouble but only trouble that she wanted to get into it herself. “You’re trouble.” She teased him, finding this an excuse to lightly poke at his side. “It is fun to think about. I sort of always wonder what exactly is in the Forbidden Forest. I don’t think I want to know though, not really.” “I am at that, don’t know what you’re getting into. But at least you know now that I’m good for a snog or two.” Kevin was known to get into a bit of trouble, but not so much he couldn’t either talk his way out of or serve the appropriate punishment for. He had no intention of getting ZJ into any real trouble, but it was fun to joke about. “It’s spooky! If we get sent there, I’ll hold your hand if you get scared.” She perked an eyebrow at him, laughing as she shook her head. “I have a feeling you’ll be good for more than just a snog or two.” She gently nudged against his side, finding an excuse to touch him for a moment. “Are you sure my little hand won’t fall out of yours?” She asked teasingly, holding up her smaller hand with fingers splayed. “Why, what have you heard? I’ll bet it’s good!” Kevin teased lightly, bumping shoulders for a moment and watched her hand move. She had delicate fingers and he enjoyed watching her move them around, showing her hand’s true size. “You know what they say…” She smirked a bit, “You can tell a lot about a man by their hands.” She really did mean more than just what his penis might be like, but she was definitely leaving that unsaid. “Oh really? Go on then, tell me what I’m like.” Kevin took ZJ’s hand only for a second or two, and laid it out flat with her smaller hand in his palm. When he put her palm on his, she grinned and looked down at them. His hand was definitely bigger. She let out a soft giggle as she wiggled her a fingers moment, then she closed her eyes and brought index and thumb of her opposite hand up to the bridge of nose, pinching it and tipping her head back as her eyes closed. Elaborate but she was putting on a fortune telling show for him. “Mmmm…” She continued to playfully wiggle her fingertips against his palm, before she then let her nails playfully ghost across his palm. “It says that you’ll live a long life, you swear like a sailor, and…” She let out a ‘hmpf’ noise as she continued to move her fingers over his palm, only stopping when her palm was flat to his, fingers lacing with his own, that she dropped her hand, opened her eyes and looked at him. “They also say maybe I’m going to get you into loads of trouble.” “Well, I’m quite doubtful of the long life… and everyone knows I swear like a sailor. It may even cause my early demise….” Kevin bobbed his head back and forth, mock-judging ZJ’s analysis of his hand. “But I’m pretty sure you’ll be getting me into trouble in one way or the other… and that’s fine by me.” He grinned his most charming smile and took her hand in his afterward. “Why are you so doubtful?” She asked curiously, she knew the world really was a bit doomy and gloomy with everything that seemed to surround Potter, but she liked to believe that everything would get better. That there would be a time when she wouldn’t have to worry about her blood status. She was curious if Kevin was in the same boat as she was. “I am a muggleborn. I’m really not the most popular variety of wizard and I tend to get into my own brand of trouble too.” He shrugged and ran a hand through his short brush cut hair. “You just never know. “You are? Good.” She asked in a slightly relieved tone, her smile only growing. “You’re sure you won’t mind me getting you into trouble? I might even get you into fights. I’ve got a big mouth.” ZJ gave a cheeky grin then, shrugging her shoulders. She really had never done that before but she’d seen it in movies that her mother had showed her. It had always looked so chivalrous, the man standing up for his lady with a big mouth. Kevin laughed out loud and crossed his arms on his chest afterward. “Maybe you’ll make me jealous and I’ll have to fight whatever bloke wants to steal you away from me. I’d take that fight.” Awfully, awfully forward and Kevin was damn proud of it. “I’ve been in fights before, I can handle my own.” ZJ bit her lower lip, a smirk gracing her features. That sounded hot, she didn’t think she should say it out loud though, it might give him ideas about actually doing these things. She laughed softly and shook her head. “You’re terrible, I won’t purposely create fights.” She lightly tapped his arm. “Are you the jealous type?” She asked curiously, not that he had much competition. She didn’t date much and she didn’t like many of the boys that she went to school with. They were great as friends but she didn’t know she felt about them as more than that. “Who says you haven’t inspired fights in the past?” ZJ was very cute and Kevin wouldn’t believe that he was the only one who thought that. He did love teasing her about it though, if he got smirks and adorable laughter. “Oh, yes, I am the jealous type. Though I wouldn’t clock anyone just for looking at you. Not that jealous, more like kissing you so hard in front of everyone so they know they’d have competition.” “You think I’ve inspired fights? Did you hit your head?” ZJ just chuckled, shaking her head as she gently nudged against him. She used it as an excuse to lean against him then. When he mentioned the jealous type part, she grinned a bit. It wasn’t the bad type, then. “You could have. I’d fight over you. But no, no head contusions. Not yet at least.” he said playfully, knocking his skull lightly with his fist. She bit her lower lip, it sounded far too good. It was like from one of those romance novels she read. The swash buckling pirate having so much love for the damsel, he pushes her against the wall and passionately kissed her so hard that she could feel it to her toes. She sort of hoped that he could be her swash buckling pirate. She gently poked at his arm then, giving him a smirk. “Show me?” It was too tempting, and Kevin was never one to back down from a challenge. He licked his lips as his eyes flicked from her eyes to her mouth. His hand reached up to rest behind her neck and kissed her hard and long, tilting her head at a better angle and licked at her bottom lip with his tongue, asking permission. It was the first time in ZJ’s life that she was able to feel it tingling all the way to her toes. She had had sex before, just with one boy. He had not ever given her this tingling to her toes feeling. It made her heart speed up, feeling like it was hammering out of her chest. She broke the kiss, but only because she was short of breath. Those beautiful green eyes lifted to look at him, her cheeks flushed and lips a bit parted as she took a deep breath. “Merlin’s tits.” She muttered with a nervous little giggle. Again, Kevin never thought he’d actually get to kiss her once, let alone such a deep one, so he had to make it good. And judging from ZJ’s reaction, it had been good. The temptation to do more was growing but it was best to wait, have fun at a later time, possibly after the Quidditch match that he was now eagerly anticipating. “Indeed… Merlin’s tits.” Kevin laughed along with her. “Something along those lines would chase off any would-be competition. Do you think?” At Kevin’s words, she gave another soft laugh. He was definitely going to be trouble but in that exciting way that made her want to know more. Her head bobbed in a nod, “Mmm, definitely.” She wanted to stupidly ask how in the world he was single but she wasn’t that bad when it came to flirting. Besides, she was almost certain she’d either done so earlier or had debated doing so. “I don’t think anyone could compete with you.” At least not with that kiss, no one had kissed her like that before. She wasn’t about to admit to that out loud though. What if he had kissed other girls like that? She didn’t want to know. “I’m sure there’s plenty of blokes who’d be happy to challenge me, just to get the chance to snog you.” Kevin smirked, ZJ’s kiss still tingling on his lips as the bell on the clock tower gonged and let him know he was going to be late for class - but it was well worth it. “You’d think I would know I’d be late for divination, maybe I should stop being late.” Kevin hopped up and grinned at ZJ. “I will meet you at the entrance to the pitch for the next game. Hope you don’t stand me up. I’ll be very pouty.” She wasn't going to fight him on the notion. She just smiled and shook her head, the clock tower signaling they had other places to be. ZJ felt as though she were coming back to reality. “I definitely don't want to see what your pout looks like.” She was hurriedly stuffing her notebooks into her bag, standing in a hurried motion. She was late for ancient runes, she had never been good at divination. “I'm late too, I'll see you then!” Then she was running off in the opposite direction, clutching her bag as she went. She was always late to class. As a last statement when ZJ was rushing off, Kevin whistled loudly and called after her. “Just as long as you’re not late for our date, yeah?” He wasn’t able to tell if she saw, but he threw a wink at her before they’d hurried off in different directions. |
