Hump day, as so many imaginatively called it, was a somewhat slow day for the storefront but a busy day in the workshop in the back. Especially this week, the week before Valentine’s, when Dora was systematically going trhough Valentine’s special orders and making other things to stock the shelves that were in more demand during the holiday. Glamours and make up charms were always popular, as were a few other things that were not kept out front where just anyone could see them. But it was the little but high priced gifts she specially charmed that kept her the busiest.
This was, perhaps, the first Valentine’s day since her school days when she wasn’t feeling utterly resentful and dark about the entire holiday, though she did still think it was rather excessive. She’d rather Ewan tlel her how much he loved her on a random day rather than on one day a year. Which he did, so she was lucky. Very lucky. And he was getting a really nice gift just so he would know she thought she was very lucky.
But the day, which would last longer than usual for her so she might actually have a weekend and so she could make time for a few personal projects, was dragging on and she wanted to curl up and nap. Something she was trying really hard not to do. So finally she’d messaged Nora and begged the woman to please come oer whenever she got off of work to keep her company for at least a few hours while she worked and for dinner. She wouldn’t fall asleep or die of boredom or sappiness with Nora here.
Plus she did have a very important topic to pump Nora for info on for Alec, and really what was a more opportune time to bring it up without suspicion but while she was charming Valentine’s gifts? Dora could definitely still be subtle and sneaky when she wanted.
Right now, however, she was stuffing her face with her favorite curry that Nora had surprised her with, though she would probably regret it later. But the moment she’d smelled it, even though it was technically much too early for dinner, she’d pretty much pounced on it, suddenly ravenous as anything. So for now she was enjoying stuffing her face and leaving the charms stuff sitting over to the side. Three engagement rings with charms to be put on them for today. All the fun things. But she had a shiny of her own on her finger, and it was more perfect than any of those.
“You’re my favorite right now. You brought curry, pudding, and alcohol,” Dora said. “I mean, you didn’t bring my god-prickle, though, so you’re not quite perfect, but you’re awfully close.”
