RP: Letter of Resignation Who: Eleanor – Open to Gaspard, otherwise it’s a standalone When: 6. February 2009, early evening Where: Eleanor’s flat at first, then Gaspard’s What: Eleanor has a not quite as easy letter to write Warnings: N/A
Dear Mr. Shingleton,
I am writing to inform you that I will be leaving my position as your Personal Assistant. Although I have enjoyed working with you, personal reasons necessitate that I vacate my position to improve my private situation. My final day will be when a replacement has been found and employed, though no later than February 28, 2009.
Thank you so much for almost eight excellent years of working with you. You have provided so many opportunities to grow and develop, not only in my career field, but as a person as well.
Sincerely,
Eleanor A. Branstone
Eleanor looked at the letter in her hand and brushed away the tear that was trickling down her cheek. This was so silly, even she knew that, but part of her just needed to do this, needed to create this distance in order to make this work. It was important for her to make the differences between Miss Branstone & Mr. Shingleton and Eleanor and Gaspard very clear.
She had meant it when she told Gaspard that she didn’t want a new job, but she had also meant the part about it not feeling right for her to be paid to be with him. They had known each other for years, but in this way, they were still new, and she was not yet ready to let him provide for her, so she needed to make her own money. Mr. Zabini’s offer of a job as his assistant was the easy answer to that, which was also why it had been easy to accept it… after a long week of considering it from every single angle possible.
Yes, it was easy to accept that offer and it felt right to do so, so she and Gaspard could get away from the only true point of imbalance between them, but she was still sad to leave the job she had loved for so long. That was why the tears were rolling right now, why she had chosen to do this in her own flat rather than upstairs with Gaspard. This was also why she did it, because where Gaspard’s girlfriend, El, would have simply told him, Miss Branstone, Personal Assistant to Mr. Gaspard Shingleton, would do things by the book, and that included an official letter of resignation.
Drawing in a deep breath, she wiped her eyes a final time and nodded to herself. She had done it… she was doing this, and that made her smile again.
Upstairs, she let herself and Burrito in, left the letter on Gaspard’s desk before she joined him on the sofa. It was almost time for dinner, and letting him treat her to some delicious take-away sounded really good to her.
