Lucius Malfoy, Pensieve Memory, 10 September 1997 Name:Lucius Malfoy Format: Pensieve Memory Date: September 10, 1997 Summary: A broken man waits for his Master’s bidding
Lucius sits in his study, staring into the fire. His hair is down and slightly disheveled. In fact, his whole appearance is much less immaculate than before his failure at the Ministry. He spends much of his time here, his last sanctuary. Narcissa and Draco rarely enter, and even the elves know better than to ever let their presence be known. This is the only place that still feels like his own. The Manor is more The Dark Lord’s each day. He is merely another object in it.
They are winning, or so it would seem. The Ministry is their puppet. His own old friend Severus has even been made Headmaster of Hogwarts. It should be a time of joy, of reveling in their success. And so it may be, for the other Death Eaters. This is their time, their triumph is at hand.
But not for Lucius. For in his son’s eyes, Lucius sees fear of what else he may be asked to do, or what may happen if he fails again. In Narcissa’s eyes, he sees that she blames him for the danger placed in front of their son. He fears he has lost them both and may not be able to get them back. Or that the Dark Lord will take them from him.
He sits and waits, to be beckoned to his Master like some whipped pup. And he is.
Azkaban had no need to take his soul…he is losing his family, his power, and the one thing he does not know how to live without…his pride.
As he stares into the dying fire, though he does not know how, he vows to get it all back.
