Lucius grit his teeth and closed his eyes as James, once again, piped up beside him. Why would this brat not leave him in peace?
"Not only do you refuse to follow my instructions, you accuse me of wishing to spend any more time than is strictly necessary with Evans? Potter, it has never been so clear to me why you were sorted into Gryffindor instead of Slytherin. Your lack of tact is astounding." Lucius said, almost incredulous. It was no wonder Lily wanted nothing to do with him... actually, that had possibility. Give Evans the night off so she could humiliate Potter again. It was an old one, but the amusement hadn't quite worn off...
Lucius paused outside his door, looking thoughtful as he stroked the serpent's head to unlock it, before beckoning James in through the open portrait door. It wasn't like other students hadn't been in there - he and the head girl used their common room for prefect meetings, and if a student had an issue they usually came to the portrait. Still, James had never been amongst the masses, and he wondered if the Gryffindor courage would kick in and drag the younger boy over the threshold and into a room alone with Lucius.
