Adrian shook his head. "It's not the same. I can't send an owl or get packages or leave. I don't like it at all," he said, frowning. "I'm still not convinced that we wouldn't be left here to rot if you and the SS weren't in the town," he added.
"Let what go? She was walking down the street on her own late at night after a shift and she claims he bumped into her. I can't imagine her running into an SS officer on purpose," he said. "Besides, the man who beat her isn't exactly a shining example of a human being. I had an... Altercation with him when I first arrived here years ago. I ended up with a black eye, a broken nose, a bruised cheekbone and fractured ribs. I've been careful to stay out of his way ever since."
