019 - In your time of need who will you turn to?
To give you the pauper's answer, in my time of need, it is myself that I turn to.
Lest you think that I wish to beg off this question or that I am insufferably arrogant (which I am not, for many have told me that I am merely sufferably arrogant), I will expand on my answer.
Each of us is given only ourselves in the world. When all is said and done, we can each only ever truly find our salvation in ourselves, or not. It is not something that others can give to us or withhold from us, although so many preaching out to the masses from pulpits desperately wish us to forget this small matter of fact. Yet, we are all given family and friends, as well. They help us to ease our burdens, sharing our loads while we share theirs, and each offer the other encouragement, succour, solace, praise, and scolding as needed.
With that said, there are those whom I can turn to when I need comfort. I am guaranteed a set of arms to hold me, kind words to soothe me, and the grace of time without pressure to order my thoughts and find within me the solutions to what needs to be done. There are those whom I go to for financial reserves when that is the course needed. And, yes, there are those I go to to pound some good common sense into my obstinate skull when my pride and arrogance blind me to the path that is best taken.
They can show me, guide me, offer me tools to use, but in the end, it is only myself that will choose to listen and to accept or not. In the end, I remain responsible for my choices, and it is to myself that I turn to implement change in my life.
