Most choirs are split into four different vocal parts, in order of highest to: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Baritone/Bass. A common misconception about being placed in a vocal part is that you can only sing in that range. That's not the case--a vocal part is assigned based on where the singer's voice is strongest. For example, a girl may be able to hit the same notes as Kristen Chenoweth, but if her voice resonates best in the lower register, she'll likely be assigned to be an alto. Additionally, sopranos have a lighter vocal sound, whereas altos have a richer sound. On the other hand, even if a person has the range in one vocal part, they may be assigned to another to even out the sound. After all, a choir comprised of twelve sopranos, two altos, five tenors, and nine bases won't balance out the sound! Please note that, in high school choirs, Baritones and Basses are often one and the same. Basses can sing lower notes, but not many guys at that age are able to. |

Your character's vocal part will not automatically mean they can't get solos! There are many factors in mind to consider when choosing a solo. Some include strength of voice and whether it fits the style of the song. Other factors unrelated to singing include seniority and parental pressure. Solo assignments will be determined by Lucy Coase. |

Need help deciding which range your character is in? Here are some sample songs for each range: Soprano: "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel | "My White Knight" from The Music Man | "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound of Music Alto: "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Miserables | "I Get a Kick Out of You" from Anything Goes | "In My Own Little Corner" from Cinderella Tenor: "All I Need is the Girl" from Gypsy | "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dreamcoat | "Anthem" from Chess Bass/Baritone: "All I Care About" from Chicago | "Feed Me" from Little Shop of Horrors | "If I Were a Rich Man" from Fiddler on the Roof |

Vocal Adrenaline has twelve males and twelve females. That means there are six people assigned to each part. Also, each understudy sings a different vocal part. |
