Who: Katie, open. Where: Auditorium. When: Friday after school. Content: SFW. Summary: Taking a little extra rehearsal time.
Katie had two options: go home and practice, where the acoustics were absolutely terrible and her little sister could come in and bother and disrupt her, or she could stay after school and practice. The latter was the much better option, because at least this way, she got to really belt it out without worrying about disturbing anyone in her house. One thing Katie loved about Vocal Adrenaline was the group practices—hard as they could be. Being around all those people with all of that energy and all the wonderful singing—it was blissful to her.
Being solo was a different experience altogether. She stood center stage with nothing surrounding her. It was a very vulnerable position for some people to be in; kind of like being naked in front of a crowd. But right then there was no crowd, and Katie wasn’t a girl who shied away from the spotlight. What being solo right now meant was that she didn’t have to compete with others for that spotlight. She was having her moment to shine, even if nobody was actually going to see it.
I just wanna hold you close, feel your heart so close to mind, and just stay here in this moment for all the rest of time.
She imagined the music swelling as she let out those high notes, imagined the crowd cheering, and let the music continue to carry her onward.
