Getting Too Wrapped Up in Work
Who: Brenna and Josie
Where: Moretti Art Museum of Vegas, then a bistro around the corner
When: Wednesday Afternoon - August 4
After inquiring about where she could find Josie, Brenna was given her friend's location and directed toward one of the back rooms at in the museum where Josie was said to be working. It had been a few days since she had seen or spoken to her friend, something that Brenna wasn't feeling right about as she had been used to keeping in more regular contact with her friend back in their time and place. It had brightened her week further when Josie agreed to have lunch with her that day, give them a chance to catch up on each others lives.
Josie was actually touching up an old painting. It was mostly what she did here. While she did do tours, if she was having a bad day, she came across as a little 'cold' to people, which they didn't seem to like. However, the owners of the museum couldn't deny her artistic talents, nor her training in touching up old paintings, so this was what she did most days. Since she couldn't show where she had learned her abilities (the school she had went to in the future obviously didn't have her on record), they got to have her at a discounted rate. Still good enough to pay her bills, though.
Hearing someone come into the room, she set her paint brush down and turned to see who it was, only to grin when she saw that it was Brenna. "Hey, girl," she said. She stood up from the stool she was sitting on and stretched. "Didn't even realize it was lunch time yet."
Brenna smiled when she found herself being greeted just as she stepped into the large workroom. "Been too involved in your work?" The teen questioned playfully as she glanced past Josie to try and see just what it was her friend had been working on.
The painting was a picture of a meadow done by an artist in the 40's. It didn't need TOO much touching up, but it had been starting to fade a little. "A little, yeah," she admitted. "So, you want to get out of here and grab something to eat? I just got to let them know up front that I'm going out to lunch."
"Whatever you're up to." Brenna answered. Grabbing something to eat away from the museum or in the cafe or whatever eating facility the place had was fine with Brenna.
"Great. There's a little bistro that's only a little walk away from here that's great," Josie said. "I've already been there twice."
"Place must be awesome if you've eaten there twice already." Brenna counter while readjusting the strap of her purse on her shoulder. A place within walking distance and seemingly highly recommended sounded perfect to the blond.
"Yeah, it's great," Josie said, already grabbing her purse. She lead Brenna back through the lobby, shouting to the girl up front that she was going out to lunch, and heading out the door. She pointed to her left. "It's less than a block that way," she said and started walking.
Brenna followed her friend from the workroom and through the museum til the pair were outside. "So how is it living here on your own?" The light inquiry made as the girls turned left just outside the door toward they destination. Most of the others she knew that had come to this time and place were living with someone parental type, Josie here though had managed to break that cycle and was living on her own. Something that Brenna was slightly jealous about, though she couldn't fault her friend for wanting her own life.
Unlike the others, Josie didn't have anyone to live with out here. Of course, she also liked her space, partially due to her upbringing, so she was happy to live on her own. "I enjoy it, actually," Josie told her as she continued to walk to the bistro. "I like having my own space that I don't have to share with anyone."
"That's what I envy about you," Brenna shared as the pair walked, "you have your own space and own life. No one to interfere with what you do." Not that her life was all that bad. Brenna actually got along with the Bronte Bale and Grant Kellerman of this time almost as well as she did her own parents back in the future. Still the teen couldn't help feel a bit envious of her friend.
"Well, you'll be old enough soon to move out on your own if you really want to," Josie said to her. When they got to the bistro, a hostess sat them down and now they had to wait for a waitress to come over and take their orders.
"That seems so far off." The blond commented casually as they entered the bistro. "Think they'll allow us to order wine?" Bren asked only half serious as she took up a menu to view the offerings of the eatery.
Josie actually thought on that for a minute. "Nah, it's too early. If we came here during the evening, they might not notice how young we look," she told her. When the waitress came over, Josie ordered a coke.
"Or got a cute waiter as our server who'd overlook that minor technicality." The blond joked. And after Josie placed her drink order with the waitress, Brenna ordered herself a lemonade.
"Those don't usually work until the evenings, either," Josie said with a grin. "So, anything look good to you?"
"I think," Brenna took another short moment to look the menu over before deciding what she might want, "either the tuna salad on wheat or the grilled ham and swiss on sourdough." She said folding the menu back up and setting it off to the side of the table.
"I'm actually thinking of getting a steak myself," Josie admitted with a grin. For some reason, she never gained weight, so she didn't have to worry much about things like 'heavy' lunches.
"So," Brenna smiled folding her hands on her lap and looking to Josie, "now that we've got the important stuff out of the way. What's been going on with you lately?" She inquired after the waitress had taken their food orders and left. Brenna had ended up ordering the grilled ham and swiss.
"Not too much, honestly," Josie admitted. "Mostly just burying my head in work. I should probably get out some more, huh?" She grinned at her. "How've you been doing?" She knew what Aug. 2nd meant to her.
"Had a bad start to the week, but it's slowly gotten better." Brenna told her knowing she needn't elaborate to Josie on why that was. The other girl was just about the only one who'd know why the 2nd of August would have been a bad day for her. So there really was no point in going over all of it again. The only thing it would serve in doing would be to bring her mood way down again. "And you should. We should maybe plan something for this weekend."
"Well, I'm glad that it's improving." And wasn't Josie just totally curious as to how? "We should totally do something this weekend. You got to show me some of the sights."
"Then be prepared to devote a whole day to me and be bedazzled by what the City of Sin has to offer." Brenna teased. A couple places had come instantly to mind to introduce Josie to. Others she would think of before the weekend came around so the two'd be able to spend the entire day hanging out together and seeing the sights of the city.
Josie grinned. "Sounds fantastic, actually," she told her friend. "I got to ask, though. What exactly made your week better? Don't want to dredge up bad feelings or anything."
"Would you buy it if I said because I get to have lunch with a real good friend." She didn't think so, but it was worth giving a shot.
"I may be good, but I'm not quite that good," Josie pointed out. "Now come on. It had to be something pretty magnificent. Share with your buddy here. What's going on?"
Brenna delayed a moment when the waitress appeared with their drinks and didn't offer anything up until she left the two alone at their table once more. "I ran into a guy I met a little ways back at Avarice II. He just made the day seem less bad."
Josie smiled. While most would tease their friends about having a new boyfriend or something, but Josie knew much better than to do so. "Good. Always good to have someone there with you."
"It was just a chance encounter, like the first time." Brenna relayed to her as she held her glass within her hands for a brief moment before a drink was taken. "He just showed up out of nowhere." Not that Brenna had been paying much attention to her surroundings that day. For all she knew he could have been trailing her for awhile from the opposite side of the street.
"Lucky for you then that he happened to be there." Josie knew that her friend could have walked into the middle of traffic and wouldn't have noticed the cars until one slammed into her. She took a sip of her drink before continuing. "So, what's the guy's name?"
Brenna hesitated a moment before she gave up the guy's name. She didn't think there'd be any harm in revealing it. "Draven." She told Josie with a little bit of a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth as she said the name.
Josie returned her smile. She could see it coming up. "Interesting name," she said back to her. "So, other than stuff from this week, what have you been up to?" Josie decided to get away from that and let Brenna relax a little more.
"Other then getting completely moved into the new house," there was something to be said for no longer having packed boxes that needed to be constantly maneuvered around, "nothing much." Brenna shared with her friend. "Gets kind of boring hanging out at Avarice II on your own." A definite sign that Brenna needed to hang out with Josie more, or maybe one of the other future!kids who had migrated to Las Vegas.
"Then you should call me more often and remind me of the outside world more often," Josie joked. She knew that she was libel to get completely wrapped up in work and forget about everything else for a while. "I know I need to get out a lot more often myself."
"And I'm going to do that this Saturday. Get you away from that job you've become way too dedicated to." Brenna smiled over to her friend. "So. Anything you'd like to experience here in Vegas?" Sure she could come up with a day's itinerary for them, but Brenna felt the day would be better if something Josie wanted to do or try was thrown into the mix.
"You know what? You know this city a little better than I do," Josie admitted to her. "Why don't you just take me around to a few places that you think I'll like." She was sure that Brenna would take her to some really cool places, after all.
"You got it my friend." Brenna told her as a bit of a mischievous grin curved slowly. "Just remember nothing I plan is backout-able."
