Dude, Talk About Kim's Mom and She'll Fucking Cut You
Who: Kim and Matthew
Where: A Coffee Shop in Vegas
When: Tuesday Afternoon
OK, so this coffee shop was no Sugar Shack, but it was still OK. Kim Bale was sitting at a table in the place, sipping at a Caramel Machiato while flipping through a magazine. Courtney was off with her relatives at the moment, so Kim was off on her own for the day in Vegas, which was actually incredibly boring during the day. Sad story right there.
In the eyes of Matthew Laurent, fate was being a cruel, harsh bitch of a mistress right now. Not only was he stuck in the past, in an alternate timeline, MORTAL again... but now, in order to make a living, he was using his vast knowledge of the supernatural to be a Watcher. And who does he gets assigned to? One of the damned future-brats that got him exiled by the Powers That Be to begin with. Fucking GREAT. The wiry man adjusted his glasses in a comically unintentional Giles-like manner, and walked into the place. Well.. one thing for Kim: she wasn't hard to locate. He looked at the paper Giles had given him, with her description: not exactly a plethora of teen, pink-haired girls in here, eh? Walking to her, he gave a weary sigh and clasped his hands behind his back. "Kimberly Bale?"
Kim looked up at him from her seat, having to actually look directly up in the air so that she could see him. "Yep," she said in response to his question. "What can I do for you?" She didn't know him at all, so she didn't have a clue as to who this was.
"My name is Matthew Laurent." His voice was nasal, in an almsot sinister-sounding way. "And I've been sent to meet you by Mr. Rupert Giles." Hell... she might not know what she is yet, but considering she'd been living amongst Slayers, she had to know the name.
"OK..." Kim said with a slight nod. "Did something happen to my mom?" That was the only reason why she thought that Rupert Giles would have sent someone to talk to her. She really didn't know anything about her being a Slayer at all.
"No.. although the thought of that does brighten my day considerably." He said as a joke, but with that same dry, semi-evil tone. "No... Apparently you are about to come into some rather late-blooming Slayer abilities. And since fate loves to mock me incessantly, I am to be your watcher."
"OK, joke about my mom like that again and the rest of those Watchers won't find enough of you to bury," Kim pointed out quickly. Kim might be a bit of a loon, but she loved her parents. "Fate might suck for you or whatever, but I could really give a rat's ass if you're gonna be joking about hurting my mom."
"Fabulous, I see you're every bit as calm and demure as her as well." He sighed, sitting down as he wondered why Giles must hate him so badly. "Perhaps I should take that back anyway. You were already here before I... lost my job." He forced a smile, one that, sadly enough, was actually quite friendly. He just rarely if ever USED it. "So... let's try this again. With apologies offered upfront. Hello, Kimberly."
She nodded. "Oh, so you're THAT guy then," she said. It had taken her a second to put it together. "If you want to blame someone for why I'm here, then you should blame Chloe Van Warren," she pointed out. She gave him a half smile. "Hi, Matthew."
"Well. While I doubt highly that I'll get my wish, I *do* prefer Mr. Laurent." Yeah. Fat chance there, dude. "And I'm... to let you know that I am offering you a chance to relocate to Las Vegas, which would put you considerably closer to your... girlfriend, who I know is also being moved there. If you choose this, you would be staying with me until you turn 18, after which you would obviously be free to do whatever you wish."
Kim nodded. She had obviously intended upon doing *something* that would allow her to be living in the same city as Courtney. She just hadn't figured out exactly what yet. "That's fine," she said to him. "I can deal with that. So, why am I late bloomer, Slayer wise?" Although she had always been kind of on the strong side.
"I can't pretend to know why. I admit to knowing precious little about actually BEING a watcher. But Mr. Giles is a bit desperate for qualified applicants, and frankly, there aren't many people who ARE more qualified than me." He gave something of ALMOST a lopsided smirk there. "Whatever the reason... you're getting the abilities NOW. And I'll help you hone them."
Kim nodded. "Cool," she said to him. "So, what exactly do we *do*? I mean, I know what my mom did growing up, but my mom's badass and a half. Plus, I don't think it works the same way with every girl. Or something. I really have no clue."
"Essentially? I train you to properly harness and use your new abilities. In ways that hopefully won;t result in too much property damage." Oh, how he smirked there. Yes, he'd heard about how 'wildwoman' Catherine tended to occasionally go.
"So, you're gonna try and make me better than my mom then, huh?" Oh, Kim had seen many a thing destroyed by her mother growing up. "Sounds like it could be interesting."
"Oh, I'm sure it will be a lot of things, Kimberly." His voice went back to that tired, nasal monotone. "Interesting... is one way of definitely putting it."
"Has anyone ever told you that you sound kind of like a serial killer?" Kim asked randomly. OK, so she wasn't known for keeping her thoughts to herself.
"I've been called much worse by much better, so... I take no offense." He smirked, standing as, frankly, he'd said his peace and wasn't exactly much of a talker. "Talk to your parents, and see when they'd be the most comfortable with getting you moved to Las Vegas."
Kim nodded. "I'm sure it won't be too big of an issue," she said. "Besides, who wants to see their parents constantly molesting each other, anyway?" She loved her parents, but the constant sex that went on in that place *might* just drive her insane.
"You know? I think I can actually agree with you on that one." He actually suppressed a shudder there, as that thought? UGH. "Here." He handed her a small card with his number on it. "Call me when you're ready, and I'll help you get your belongings moved."
Kim nodded, taking the number. "I'll give you a call soon then," she said to him.
