Bad First Impressions
Who: Christian Moore, Sunshine, and later Aidan
Where: Avarice II
When: Feb. 20th, Evening
Having finished her homework last night, Sunny was strongly looking forward to a night out with her friends this evening. Dressing up in a pair of ripped jeans that had hot pink patches of color showing through and a black t-shirt with a silver, glittery unicorn on it, the teenager was good to go for her night out. A light dusting of pink shadow across her lids and her pink hair was pulled up into two messy buns upon her head and she was out the door, meeting her friends outside of Avarice and getting her colored wrist band to show she was underage. She danced, gossiped and had an all around good time until she took a break to grab a soda from the bar, waving her arm to the bartender to let them know she'd need anything but what was in the nice, expensive bottles on the shelves behind him.
Christian Moore had been sitting in the shadows, watching as Sunshine danced along to the music. He had been watching her for a while now. While he didn't know about the Watcher that had approached her (that had happened during the day), whatever she did at night, he had kept an eye on. Tonight he had obviously followed her out to the club. He had every intention of introducing himself tonight. A few minutes before she headed to the bar, he left his own seat in the corner and headed to the bar for a refill on his wine, and then stayed when he noticed Sunshine coming over.
After she sat down, he simply caught her eye and gave her a smile.
Sunny noticed the cute guy that smiled at her. The bartender returned with her drink and she accepted it with a smile and paid for it. Her smile was still in place for the cute guy, but it faded a little around the edges as something nagged at her about Christian. It wasn't the slow cramping in her pelvic area that had built up since she'd gotten there (which is why she needed a break), it was something else, like...she'd seen the guy before. But, she was pretty sure she's remember meeting a looker like him. Aidan certainly hadn't faded from her mind, and not entirely due to the crazy story he'd told her, either. No, the nagging feeling was about something else completely. Oh, well. If it was really important for her brain to remember, it would tell her. But something about this guy was a little off, which was why he didn't get the full wattage of her usually bright smiles.
He noticed that her smile was less than it normally was, but he actually understood why that would be. After all, he had been a semi-driving force in her life ever since she was conceived. Still, he took the smile as an invitation, and slid down the bar until there was only one seat between them. "Hello," he said simply, taking a sip of his drink.
The soon-to-be Slayer watched as he moved closer, that nagging feeling getting worse. Seriously, what was up with this guy? It was like she knew him, but for the life of her, Sunny couldn't recall ever meeting him before.
"Hi!" She replied, her smile still in place, although she took an awkward sip of her soda. Christian looked familiar and Sunny struggled to remember where she'd seen this guy before. The girl had, of course, completely forgotten that dreams she used to have as a child of Christian, having repressed them in order to deal with the all too scary aspects of the nightmares. Her mom, however, knew exactly what the dreams had meant and that was when they'd moved so many years ago to the east coast. Sunny kind of thought it was strange that they had to move to Las Vegas of all places recently, but whatever. It wasn't like she had much choice in the matter.
Sunny quirked a brow at him and then asked with spunk to her tone, "Can I help you with something, Mr...?"
"Christian Moore," Christian said to her, offering his hand to her to shake. He actually knew that she had dreamed a lot about him. He had watched her since she was a child. She was supposed to be his. Now he was just going to make sure that she actually became his. "I'm just being friendly," he said, continuing to smile at her. "What's your name?" Might as well play dumb in hopes of calming her nerves a little.
Sunny stared down at the offered hand and then back up into Christian's gaze, searching it. It seemed a little odd that two guys that were clearly older than her had taken a sudden interest in the teenager, but on the one hand there was that feeling of knowing that made her take his hand and smile back. On the other, that same feeling was giving off warning bells in her head. While Sunny was accident prone, she certainly wasn't stupid and only gave her first name, "Sunshine." She chuckled a little and added, "Yes, my parents named me that."
It was fine. He actually knew more about her than simply her last name. He knew things about her that she didn't even remember. "Pleased to meet you, Sunshine," he said to her, shaking her hand. "And I think it's a pretty name." Kind of ironic for a vampire, though. "Come here often?"
The girl giggled, "You can call me Sunny. It's kind of weird when people use the whole thing." Even weirder still when she had to tell people her full name of Sunshine Moonbeam Durant. While she agreed with Christian, it was a pretty name, sometimes she felt like she could just shoot her mom and dad for giving her a hippie name. Like when cute guys tried to pick her up with cheezy pick up lines like this one. She scrunched her nose, "Seriously? Do ask all the girls that or just the ones with bright pink hair?" Sunny said, teasing him, and then gave a more serious answer as she shrugged, "Sometimes. Most of the time I hang out with my friends at the skate park." Which was true, even though she stayed away from skateboards. Skateboards + Sunny = Disaster.
"No, just wanted to know so that I can come here again if you did come here often," he teased her. That was actually the truth. If she really did like this place, he would make sure to be here more often. After all, if he were really going to use a cheesy line, he could have used something with her name in it. Something about how the he could almost feel the sunshine again by looking in her eyes. (He had also been a poet when he was human.)
"Okay, Stalker." She laughed, despite being a little serious about her reply. Awkwardly, again, Sunny took a gulp of her soda and wondered if she should make an excuse to walk away. The girl glanced to her friends, some of who were on the dance while the others all congregated on one of the couches off to one side of the club. Sunny pulled her lower lip between her teeth for a moment nervously biting it before taking another sip of her drink.
"Sorry, didn't want to come off like that," he said, looking as if he'd been a little hurt by the comment. Of course, he really wasn't (and he kind of was a stalker), but you didn't get to be as old of a vampire as him without becoming more than a little manipulative. He could also see that she was looking around nervously. "I can leave you alone if that's what you'd prefer."
At his second question, Sunny realized she was probably acting weird and smiled again as she shook her head, "No, it's not that..." She chewed her lower lip again a moment before finally deciding to ask, "Okay, this is going to sound really weird, but...have we met before?"
When she asked if they had met before, Christian shook his head. "No, we've never met." They hadn't in person, so it wasn't even that far from a lie. He had been watching her, though. To say something like that would scare her off, though.
"Really?" Sunny said, her tone doubtful. She then shrugged, "I don't know...I'm just getting this crazy sense of deja vu..." The girl nibbled on her lower lip again, staring at Christian with thoughtful, narrowed eyes until literally shrugging the feeling off and standing. Her instincts were pulling her in two different directions. On the one hand, she really wanted to ask Christian to dance with her, but on the other...something was telling her to blow this guy off and call Aidan. The situation was kind of weird for her and, well, Aidan had been kind of weird. It was kind of funny, though. Since meeting him, she'd been carrying around his card in her bra.
Smiling, the teenager slid off the stool she'd been sitting on and said, "Gimme one minute to use the little girl's room and I'll be right back. Maybe...we could dance?" She turned up the wattage of her smile just a tad, reaching her hand to touch him on the arm a second and then turned to disappear into the crowd. Having reached the bathroom's, Sunny moved on toward the back exit, pulling out both the card and her phone and started dialing Aidan.
Christian nodded. "Really. Maybe I just have one of those faces?" he was actually happy that she was somewhat recognizing him. He wouldn't have done his 'job' correctly if she didn't, after all. When she asked to give her a minute to go to the bathroom, he nodded. "Feel free. I'll be looking forward to that dance," he said, giving her a smile as she got up.
Adrien himself was at home, doing some letter writing to a friend back home when his telephone rang. "Hello?" he asked when he picked it up.
"Mr. Hainsworth? This is Sunshine Durant," She glanced back behind her just as she reached the back exit and it didn't look like Christian had followed her. Pushing the door open, she stepped out into the slightly cooler air, "Um...could you come pick up me, please? There's this guy with a weird vibe...and if I called my parents, they'd just flip out, ya know?" Sunny neglected to mention that despite the weird vibe she was getting from Christian, she was curious and a little fascinated by him. It scared her that she didn't know why.
Aidan arched an eyebrow when he realized it was Sunny on the phone. "Um...sure, where are you at?" he asked her, sitting up in his chair. He couldn't help but wonder just what sort of vibe she was getting off of a guy if she was calling him for a ride.
"Um, I'm at this club called Avarice II?" The girl gave Aidan the address and added, "I just have to let my friends know I'm going home and then I can meet you outside."
"Alright. I'll be there in a few minutes. Don't go outside by yourself or anything in case you're worried that guy might try to follow you," Aidan said and hung up the phone. Even though he hadn't been in Vegas for too long, everyone knew where Avarice II was, since it was quickly becoming THE club to be at.
Sunny bit her lip a little sheepishly at Aidan's warning as she was already outside by herself. Really not very smart now that I think about it, the girl thought. Oh well, what was the use of crying over spilled milk or whatever the say was, right? "Okay!" Hanging up, Sunny started to text her friends that she was heading home and not to worry because she'd gotten a ride to pick her up.
After it had taken a few minutes, Christian actually had slipped outside to see what Sunny was up to, catching the last few minutes of her conversation about her calling for a ride to leave the club. He actually closed in on Sunny, only a few inches behind her when he spoke. "Leaving so soon?" he asked her.
At the sound of that smooth voice, Sunny jumped and let out a startled scream and dropped her cellphone. She whirled and stepped back a couple of steps and recovered her composure enough to laugh nervously, "Oh, well, you know! Life...happens." The girl bent to pick up her phone, which thankfully hadn't broken into a million little pieces, "My mom called. I have to be on my way home." It was a fib, but honestly, it was probably going to save her ass if he wasn't some sort of psycho.
He couldn't help but smile a tad when she screamed, which probably defeated the purpose of having a 'non-threatening' air about him. It was a little to amusing to him. "Your mother? Interesting..." he said, thinking back for a second to just what her mother had been like. She had been very interesting. "She coming to get you?" he asked, taking a step closer to her.
"Uh, no..." Sunny replied, taking a step back as he took a step forward. Okay, that weird vibe she'd been feeling from him? It was now full blown creepy. The teenager gulped and replied, "He'll be here soon, so...maybe you should go bother someone else, alright?"
"Now...if I wanted to do that, don't you think I would have done it by now?" he asked, now dropping all pretense, moving at supernatural speed so that he was now behind her again, grabbing her by both shoulders and holding her in position. "You have no idea how long I've waited for you, Sunny," he said, bending his head forward slightly...
...to be punched in the back of the head by one now VERY pissed off Aidan. The vampire let go of Sunny and stumbled slightly, only, as he managed to look back up, had a cross in his face and a stake aimed at his chest. "Leave. NOW," Aidan said simply, looking at Christian, who was also showing his vampire face at the moment.
"What the--!?" The girl started to say as in a blink of an eye, Christian was there and suddenly he wasn't. Those hands grabbing her by the shoulders caused her to jump again in fear until he was suddenly shoved into her and Sunny went stumbling forward. Throwing her arms out in front of her, she barely had time to grab a hold of the Dumpster nearby to right herself. The teenager was starting to get mad as this night was just getting worse by the freakin' second!
A scowl spread across her face and she whirled, throwing up a finger, "Okay, that's it! You're really ask--" Sunny gasped at the display she saw in front of her and her hands flew to her mouth. Aidan had come to her rescue, much to her relief, but Christian's face! When her hands dropped away, Sunny breathed out, "Oh, my God..."
Christian hissed at Aidan. "THIS is none of your business." He had intended for this to be the night, but it seems like that wasn't going to happen, with a meddlesome Brit in his way that didn't seem to realize that he was NOT wanted here. "And it's not over." With that, he backed away, fading into the shadows.
Aidan had actually grabbed Sunny by her shirt with the non-cross holding hand and pulled her back before reaiming it at the vampire's chest. "It is my business," he said simply to the vampire. Once he had went away, Aidan looked Sunny over. "Did he hurt you?" he asked, looking for any sort of wound. "That's...not exactly how I wanted you to find out about these sorts of things."
Too late, thought Sunny as she gave him a weak smile. Her hands lifted to her neck, checking despite the fact she knew that the only thing Christian had done was lay his hands on her. It was probably a good thing not to mention that both enticed and scared her at the same time. Instead, the girl waved Aidan away, "I'm fine and, FYI, that's really not how I wanted to find out either, so I think we're pretty much Even Steven and Square on that." As she said that last, Sunny made a square shape in the air.
"Right...well, come on then, let's get you home. We can talk much more about this tomorrow, if you'd like." She really did need to know all about this. "Right now I think you need some rest." And possibly a drink, but he couldn't advocate that. He was supposed to be a role model or something.
A bark of laughter burst out of the teenager at the mention of rest. "HA! Yeah, right. Like I'm gonna be able to sleep with that," She threw an arm in the direction Christian had disappeared in, "rolling around in my head." Sunny then turned to him, "Oh, and for the record," she smiled dryly at him, "I totally believe you now. Happy?" Because she wasn't!
"Alright. You have me there. No sleep for you. You should still go home," he said, trying to direct her to his car, still keeping an eye out for Christian as well. "Well, while I'm glad you believe me now, I'd MUCH rather of you simply believed me instead of finding out like that. Not quite on the 'happy' plane, though."
"Uh-huh," the girl said as she was ushered over to Aidan's car and then turned after pulling open the passenger door, leaning on it. Sunny gave Aidan a hard look and then said quite frankly, "Pretend you're normal for one minute. Would you believe you about vampires at first blush?" Without waiting for an answer, the teenager climbed into the car and shut the door. Buckling herself in, she crossed her arms over her chest and stared in front of her. In all...Sunny wasn't really a happy camper at the moment. But Aidan had a point; the girl would've saved herself some trouble if she had just taken the time to be open-minded and humor him at least a little bit.
"I'm fairly certain I've never been normal in that shape and form. I was raised to be a Watcher," he admitted to her. Once she was in the car and buckled in, he started it up and pulled away from the club. "I suppose it is hard to believe. I really understand that. I can train you to fight things like that so they can't sneak up on you, teach you to hone your natural ability to figure out who a vampire is before they try to bite you. You said you had a feeling about him. That's a sign that you are a Slayer. They have those. They can look at a vampire and know what they are."
Sunny glanced over to him with confusion on her face, "Watcher?" She made a face at him, "You know...that sounds vaguely dirty, right?" The teenager pressed her lips together and fought to keep a straight face until Aidan mentioned he'd be able teach her how to fight things. At this, Sunny burst out laughing like she'd heard the biggest joke in the world and honestly? She had. Waving her hands as she tried to control herself, she panted from the effort of laughing and shook her head, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Sunny cleared her throat, brushing aside her hair, "Good luck with that, Mr. Hainsworth!" She gave him a look and then explained, "Oh, come on! You saw me the day you met me. What happened in the park? That, like, happens almost every other day, dude."
He shrugged. "I didn't pick the name," he said simply about the term 'Watcher.' "We watch out for Slayers, though. I think it comes from that. No peeping tom type deal." He shook his head a tad when she started laughing, though. "Just because you're lacking a little bit in grace doesn't mean that you can't be trained. Quite the opposite. I can even train you to help with that little problem."
Comically, she narrowed her eyes at Aidan and wagged a finger at him, "That better be the case, man. 'Cause otherwise? That's just nasty." Of course, she was just teasing him about the name he held in whatever this thing was. Man, no one would believe her even if she told someone! But since no one else would believe her, Sunny would be keeping her big fat mouth shut about the whole "otherwordly" thing. The girl's gaze turned out to the passenger window when Aidan said he could help her with her "problem." That would be the perk of this job...not feeling like an idiot every other day because she apparently couldn't stay coordinated.
"That'd be cool," she murmured softly.
"I promise not to be a peeping tom with you," Aidan said. He wouldn't do anything like that. He knew that he could get a perfectly willing woman to undress for him while he was IN the room, thank you. He nodded when she said that would be cool. The rest of the journey was spent mostly in silence until they arrived at her home. "I'll wait out here until you get inside, OK?" he said.
A smile curved her lips out at the darkness of her window at Aidan's joke and she chuckled, glancing to him a moment before returning her attention to the passenger window once again. Sunny dozed a bit until the car came to a stop in front of her house and she straightened, staring back at the safety of her home. She glanced at Aidan, "Vamp--" She couldn't quite get herself to say it yet, "Guys like earlier...they can't get in unless you invite them, right? Like in the movies?" Sunny asked a bit anxiously.
He shook his head. "They can't come in unless you invite them, Sunshine," Aidan said to her. "You should be safe inside your home. Also, while I know it'll be hard to explain, you should tell any family you live with about the vampire in question so that they don't invite him either."
The girl nodded as she unbuckled her safety belt, "Yeah, you can definitely double-check that one off the list of things I'll be doing tonight." Sunny then cleared her throat, "So, um..." she nodded as she added, "We should probably talk about all this...stuff soon. I'm free most afternoons right after school."
"Just call the number when you want to talk. It has my cell phone on the card, too, so I should be easy enough to get in touch with." She was supposed to be his job, after all. What else was he doing?
She nodded, "Got it." Sunny started opening the car door and paused to turn back to him, "Um...Mr. Hainsworth?" The girl chewed on her lip a second, "Thanks for the save back at the club." She smiled a little, "G'night." The teenager climbed out of the car, closing the door behind her and started up the walk.c
