This Didn't Go Well
Who: Bella, Akito, and Wesley
Where: Akito's Home
When: Friday Evening, 6/25
It had actually taken a lot of convincing to get Bella to come with him. First she had asked what had happened to her other Watcher, and didn't like the fact that he had left and went back to England for some reason or another. That had not made her happy at all. Of course, hearing that they already had another Watcher lined up for her had really no effect on her. She wasn't sure what to think. Still, she finally agreed to come. She wasn't sure why her new Watcher was out all the way in freaking Vegas, but whatever. Not like she couldn't easily travel. The trip itself had been made mostly in silence, and, when they finally arrived at Akito's place, both felt an immense relief. Wesley was the one to actually knock on his door, though.
When he opened the door, Akito didn't smile, or really give any sort of facial expression. He merely bowed to them, wearing a simple black gi. "Hello, sir. This is Bella, I presume?" His voice was calm, reserved... but held the air of someone who, if set off, could be VERY dangerous.
"Yes, this would be Bella McConnell," Wesley said, standing aside so that the two of them could get a good look at each other. Wesley himself had no idea if this would go over well or not.
Oh, this was not going to work out well at all. "Hi," Bella said. Bella herself was wearing a white Chanel dress that Skylar of all people had lent to her. She had figured if she was going to meet some big mucky-muck Watcher, might as well look good. She'd actually pinned her hair back as well, she Akito would have had a good look at her well made up face.
Now... this got an expression out of him. He raised a brow, as, to him? This girl looked like a total, complete diva. A spoiled little princess. "Ms. McConnell. A pleasure. I am Akito Fuyuki... your new Watcher."
Apparently she was, or at least one version of her was. The Bella before him was still somewhat unsure of who she really was. So, surprises for all! "Please to meet you, Mr. Fuyuki," she said, bowing slightly to him.
Wesley looked at the both of them. Wonderful, except not at all. They were looking at each other like they were pariahs.
"Bella..." He started, that voice again full of calm, yet vaguely scary. "Training with me will not be easy. But I can promise you: if we respect one another... I can help you become the slayer you were born to be."
"Respect starts by not judging me for outside appearances," Bella pointed out. "Just because I want to look good doesn't mean that I don't know how to get down to work."
Wesley had to bite his lip to keep from saying 'respect also works when you're not being a bitch like your mother.' OK, so Gwen was past it, but Wesley probably never would be. Man could hold a grudge like NO other. So, instead he said, "I'm sure you'll have a lot to learn from each other."
The man raised a brow again, unused to the type of... petulance Bella showed. Still, he knew the importance of the girl, and bit his tongue.
"My apologies, Ms. McConnell. I can assure you: if you show me the respect I am due, I will do the same for you."
Wesley rolled his eyes. He unfortunately was very used to it, The girl took a lot after Gwen in pure attitude, it seemed. "Respect sounds like a good thing right about now," he said under his breath. He just wasn't completely sure if it was going to come.
Bella nodded. "Jūnin toiro," she said softly, then arched an eyebrow. "Apparently I know Japanese. Neat."
"Well." He blinked, looking at Wesley, as if to ask 'does this happen often?', before looking back at Bella. "I would greatly like for you to stay here. So that I may supervise your training constantly. I feel it is vital that we find out just what you are capable of... and in a timely manner."
Wesley looked a little shocked himself. "I didn't know that you could speak Japanese," he said to her, and gave Akito a slight shrug.
"I didn't either," Bella said. She looked at Akito. "I have no memory of anything past a year or so ago. I *think* it was in an effort to prevent me from messing up the past like my counter part Ami, but others came through that sort of threw that plan ALL out of whack." She made a face at the thought of living there. She couldn't help it. "I'm not sure if living here with you is going to work," she admitted. "We don't seem the types to get along under one roof. I'm willing to work with you plenty, and I can get here on my own easy."
Akito gave Wesley a look again, waiting to see how HE would rule on this. He was in charge of them all in this area now, after all.
Wesley sighed. "Bella, I can't *make* you do anything, but at least staying nearby would be advisable for now. Mr. Akito here is able to give you the training that neither your former Watcher nor any of the rest of us are capable of giving. However, the decision is up to you."
Bella nodded, thinking on it for a second. "For now, I'm for serious training, but I still kind of have a life in LA that I'm not exactly for just up and quitting." It was the only life she had ever known, after all. She wasn't going to be so willing to give it up for, well, for just about anything, really.
"Los Angeles? I cannot properly train you if you're living that far away, Ms. McConnell. I need you much closer than that." He looked.. almost offended that they could possibly expect him to train someone from that far away.
"I said I could drive here," Bella pointed out to him. She looked back at Wesley. "Why did you find a Watcher that lived hours away and expect me to uproot my life to train with him?"
Wesley just shook his head. "I only follow orders, Bella," he said. "Giles was the one who suggested Mr. Akito be your Watcher." And he was already developing a headache from trying to mediate between these two.
"Mr. Fuyuki, you mean." He said politely, but with SLIGHT annoyance. Damn if anyone ever got Japanese names correct. "And Bella... I can teach you to live up to every ounce of potential you have in you. Teach you to be exactly the deadly warrior you were born to be. But... until you are ready to commit entirely to that training... there is nothing I can do for you."
"Then I'm sorry, Mr. Fuyuki, but there's nothing I can do," Bella said to him. "Sorry to waste your time." With that, she turned and walked out of the house, leaving one flabbergasted Wesley in her wake.
