Phoning the Step-Dad
Who: Bella and Ben
Where: Over the Phone
When: Feb. 2nd, Evening
Hanging out in her bedroom after a rigorous training session with Akito, Bella had just showered and was now sprawled out on her bed, mainly just vegging. Of course, when you're vegging and not thinking of much, random thoughts tend to pop into your head. For some reason, Ben popped into hers. He was her step-dad after all. Maybe she should give him a call? She HAD been meaning to check up on them, lately.
Rolling over with a slight groan (her muscles were SORE, thank you), she grabbed her cell and hit the instant call button that had Ben's number programmed into it. New technology rocked, by the way.
Curled up on the big living room sofa with Skylar (seriously... other than sex? Nothing beat just curling up naked with her on the sofa, under the covers, watching movies), Ben groaned when his cell phone started to ring. Looking at it, he raised an eyebrow when he noted who was calling. "Hang on, pet..." he mumbled to Skylar, before pausing the movie and flipping open his phone. "Bella? Is everything alright?"
If Bella knew that he was curled up under a blanket naked with her mother, she would have gagged and hung up the phone. For reals. Yuck. Anyways, she smirked when he asked if everything was OK. "Everything's fine, Ben. What? I can't check on my favorite step-dad?" she teased.
"Well sorry if I still tend to expect you to... wish me death or something half the time." He snarked, chuckling a little as he lovingly stroked Skylar's hair.
She laughed. "Alright, you got me there," she pointed out. "Just wanted to check up on you guys and make sure that, you were still living, you know?" She laughed. "You guys SUCK on keeping your oldest daughter updated on family life, you know? Like...my biological dad breaking up with his wife and meeting an alternate version of her, maybe?"
"Don't even get me started on that shit." He laughed, sweetly giving Skylar's neck a few quiet kisses between sentences. "I am so confused with what Patrick is doing with his life now.... as long as he's happy, I guess." Ok, so maybe Ben was a LITTLE pissed for Baily right now, ok?
While Bella didn't know about Baily, she would totally understand the anger if she did. "OK, I freely admit I don't get it, either. Not sure if there's a way TO get it, since I thought that stuff was done." She sighed. "So, how are you guys doing?"
"We're alright." Ben said with a smile as he snuggled Skylar tightly against him with one arm. "How are YOU though? How's Sin City treating my girl?"
"Doing good. Dating someone that's NOT a vampire with issues or something," Bella said with a smirk. OK, so he wasn't totally human, either, but neither was she, if what she understood about Slayers was correct. "So, things are good, actually."
"Glad to hear it. Oh yeah..." Yep, THIS is how he was gonna tell Bella about his new 'job'... "By the way, I'm a Watcher now..."
Bella simply started laughing. "OK, seriously...." When he didn't say anything, her jaw dropped. "No offense, but WHO the hell let you be a Watcher?"
"I know, right?" Was his own laughter-filled response. "Apparently Rupert Giles feels I have a lot to contribute to these girls, based on my knowledge of the supernatural. I could have broken his neck when he tried to guilt me into it, but well, THAT would have been rather lame of me, hm?" Ooooo, and the mun takes a potshot at Season 8 for the win...
Bella rolled her eyes. "And he'd have probably staked you with the silver stake you KNOW he has in his pocket every time he has to be around you," she pointed out with a smirk. "So that would have been pointless. So, how do you like the job then?"
"Oh, I quite like it." He said, that damnable smirk practically AUDIBLE in his voice. "The girl I was assigned to is... taking to my teachings quite well. Giles was right.... I *do* have quite a bit to... offer these girls." Oh, the bastard...
Bella had a slight inkling as to what he might be talking about, but simply decided to push it to the back of her mind. Besides, as much of a scoundrel that he was, she knew that he wouldn't intentionally hurt a young girl. "Well, hopefully you'll take care of the girl in the normal ways, too," she said simply.
"What can I say, Bells..." He said with a shrug, sweetly tickling Skylar's tummy as he talked, "We can't all have the Uber-Watcher like you do. Some of us both know our faults... and lovingly embrace them."
"God you're such a horn dog," she said. Lucky for him she also knew that he'd never force himself on a girl. (As he would say, he wouldn't have to.) "Just...don't get caught doing...what you're probably doing. I'd rather not Mr. Giles make a wolf skin coat out of my step-father, thanks."
Don't worry. I know how to be a decent person, as well. Even if I can be a bit of... an asshole at times..." Yes, Ben knew damn well what he was, thanks, "Naomi is STILL very special to me. While I may not exactly be the most wonderful influence, I *do* care about the girl."
"Yeah, I know it, too now, amazingly enough," she said with a smirk, knowing how ridiculous it seemed, given her antagonizing status with him before. "Long as you care, I think that's what is important."
"Now. As much as I love talking to you..." Oh no. This really wasn't gonna end well, was it? "From what my blessed sense of smell is telling me, your mother is about ready to destroy me in a wonderful, wonderful way."
"OK, that just gets an EW, thank you," Bella said, making a face. "FINE. Go defile my mother. I'll call back during a time that you two aren't trying to make me another sibling or something." She started laughing.
"Yeah. Good luck getting in touch with us if that's the case." Oh, wonderful, Ben. "Talk to you soon, kiddo."
