Coming to Town
Who: Willie and Jennae
Where: Jennae's Appartment
When: May 1, Afternoon (Backdated to when she arrived.)
Fresh off the airplane, Willie rode in the taxi to her cousin's apartment. She watched eagerly as the city passed her by. She was SO happy to be here. Her own life in Britain had hit sort of a rut, and she had just caught some cad of a now ex boyfriend cheating on her, so she did the drastic thing and moved to another country. When the taxi pulled up to her cousin's apartment building, Willie hopped out, then leaned into the window and paid the driver. "Jennae!" she shouted. "Come on out! Your lovable British cousin is here to crash on your couch until she finds her own place!"
After working 12 hour shifts at the hospital for the past four days Jennae finally found herself with a much needed day off. A day she had played to oversleep and just plain hang out around the apartment doing pretty much nothing except relaxing. The voice though that she heard drifting up into her one bedroom apartment through an open window put an immediate stop to any plans of the day.
"Willie??" Jannae called out as she stood in front of the open window. "What the devil are you doing here?" Jann called down to her cousin, though she didn't give the other woman a chance to answer before Jennae had her feet slipped into a pair of slippers and was bounding down the stairs clad in an over-sized black tee and gray, black and white plaid pajama pants. The older Ravendale's hair still a bit of a mess when she opened the door to her waiting cousin.
Damn! She knew she forgot to do something in her frenzy of packing. She forgot to call! Crap! Oh well, she was already here, wasn't she? "Please tell me you love your absent minded cousin and will allow her to crash on your couch for a week or so while she finds her own place?" she asked her cousin when she opened the door. "I knew I bloody forgot to do something when I was packing."
"Well, I'm certainly not going to have you sleeping on the street or in some flea ridden hotel room." Jennae flashed her cousin a soft smile as she moved the few short feet to give her cousin a warm and welcoming hug. It might have been a complete surprise, but Jennae was happy to see her younger cousin nonetheless.
She hugged her cousin back. "I'm SO sorry that I blanked on calling, Jennae!" she said, laughing at herself as well. "I'm so relieved that you aren't punishing me for it by banishing me to the dingy motels that I'm sure populate this place." Probably right next to strip clubs, too.
"Oh, don't worry cousin of mine," Jennae grinned a bit mischievously when she stepped back from her cousin, "I have a much more appropriate punishment in mind for you." Which of course she was just teasing about. Expected or not, Jennae was almost thrilled to tears to have family staying with her in the city, even if it might only be for a couple of days.
"I'm assuming much in the way of household chores," Willie said. She knew that her cousin was happy to have her here, though. Probably almost as much as she was happy to BE here. "But now I got to find a job, find a place to live, because, as comfy as it is, I can't live on your couch forever."
"But of course dear Willamina," Jennae teased guiding her cousin up into the building toward her apartment, "how else are you going to pay for your stay here. And really you're welcome to stay as long as you like." Jennae didn't feel her cousin needed to be in any rush to find a job and other living accommodations. Family was family after all.
"Well I'd at least like to be able to buy groceries so that I can feed us." Willie grinned at her. "I'm still able to put away a whole cake on my own."
"You were always the one who could eat like a guy and never put on a pound." Jennae chuckled softly as the pair reached the door of her apartment. "Me, I just look at a slice of pie and gain ten pounds in all the wrong places." Opening the door Jenn stepped to the side to let her cousin enter first.
Willie walked right in. "I can't help it if I inherited boy metabolism," she cracked. Willie had always been a bit of a tomboy, especially when it came to things like cars.
"Some people just get all the good family traits." Jennae commented casually as she closed the door behind them. Despite their differences in personality, the two cousins remained as close as cousins could while being separated by an ocean. That, though, didn't mean the cousins didn't have much catching up to do with each other.
"Some of us are just lucky that way," Willie said with a teasing smirk. "So! I guess you're wanting to know all about the sudden want to move, aren't you?"
"Oh course I do!" As if there had been any question about that in Jennae's mind. "I want to know in full detail the reason behind why I now have a temporary room-mate." The doctor smiled softly to her cousin.
"Do you ever feel like you're stuck in a rut?" Willie asked her cousin as she set some of her stuff down. "That's what I was feeling. I was feeling like all I really had to do with myself is go through the motions of life. Everyone around me was getting married and popping out babies and I'm not so sure that's right for me...well, not right now. Plus the boyfriend cheating on me just kind of put the clinch on it," she admitted. "I needed a change. Some sort of...I don't know...'shock' to the system."
I've had those thoughts once or twice." Jennae admitted to her cousin. "First time was the reason behind my moving here to Las Vegas. I felt I just needed a change from everything. Which was why I opted to attend an out of state college rather then one smack dab in the middle of New York close to the family and friends."
"Which is why I came here. I knew one person who lived here," Willie said, looking at Jennae briefly. "I wasn't quite daring enough to go off completely on my own."
"That would have been an experience for you, Willie." Jennae smiled knowingly to her cousin. "Knowing someone in a strange city tends to make a transition from one place to another easier. And, seeing as this is my day off, and if you're not too jet lagged, I'll show you around the city so you can be semi familiar with it as you'll be seeing very little of me in the days to come."
Willie grinned at the offer. "That sounds wonderful," she said about the tour. "I'm not feeling jet lagged at all."
"You can stash your stuff in the bedroom," Jennae said with a slight inclination of her head toward her bedroom, "and I grab my bag and then we can be off to see the sights of the City of Sin."
"Fab," Willie said, grabbing her bags and all but throwing them into the bedroom. She was ready to get going and see the sights of Vegas.
Jennae shouldered her bag and grabbed her keys meeting her cousin at the door after Willie deposited her things in Jennae's bedroom. "If there's anything you're really wanting to see don't hesitate to say." Jennae said closing the door behind them after leading her cousin out of the apartment. It was a short drive from her apartment to most of the major sights and attractions of Las Vegas, so it really was whatever Willie wanted to see, Jennae would try and fit into the little tour of the city.
