Bonding Over True Lies (The First Time That's Ever Been Said)
Who: Willie and Jennae
Where: Their Apartment
When: Jan 4th, Evening
Willie was SO happy that she didn't have to work tonight. She had basically went insane and willingly worked her chauffeur job on New Year's Eve. In Vegas. Which meant a lot of drunk people, and a lot of men propositioning her in an effort to get laid on the cheap, since all of the hookers were charging double rates because of all the tourists and they could get away with it. Even with all the money that she had made, it had been a nightmare. Her fares were lucky that they didn't get deposited in the middle of the desert alone, but her boss had said that if she did that again, she'd probably get prosecuted or something. Right now, though, she was enjoying a true night of destressing, watching bad TV while munching on a giant bowl of popcorn while wearing her Snoopy pajamas.
Jennae trudged up the stairs toward the apartment she shared with her cousin. It had been another one of those days where Jennase pulled a sixteen hour shift at University Medical, and all she was wanting to do was make it up to her apartment, drop her bag, slip off her shoes and crash on the couch as she wasn't sure if she'd make it to her bedroom.
"Willie?" Jennae called out as she eased the door open and heard the tv playing. Tossing her bag and keys on the table by the door Jennae closed the door and stepped further into the apartment with her eyes drawn toward the living area.
"Living room!" Willie called out back to her cousin. Just by the sound of her voice, she could tell that her cousin had another long day at the hospital. Both of them worked grueling jobs in some aspects, but Willie was just relieved that she didn't have to typically deal with people dying on her.
"Ahh," Jennae plopped down on the sofa beside her cousin with a weary sigh and kicked her feet up onto the low table in front of the couch, "popcorn." Her hand dug into the large bowl and extract a nice sized handful as her gaze shifted over to the tv. "What are we watching?" Jennae asked before tossing some of the popcorn into her mouth to chew slowly.
"True Lies with Arnold," Willie said, not even having to say the Austrian actor's last name. Everyone knew who 'The Terminator' was, after all. "He thinks his wife is cheating on him with some goof ball that is pretending to be a secret agent and is taking credit for his actual secret agent endeavors."
Joys. A movie she actually liked watching more then once. "So she hasn't been sent to the hotel yet where Arnold is secretly waiting for her." Slouching down a bit more, which Jennae knew wasn't all that good for her posture, but it definitely was more comfortable, she grabbed another handful of popcorn.
Willie shook her head. She had seen this movie multiple times as well, probably a few of those times was with her cousin. "Want a beer?" she asked, nodding toward the tiny cooler with about four beers in it beside her feet. "I didn't want to have to get up," she said with a smirk.
"I'd prefer a glass of wine, but as I'm nowhere near inclined to get up myself I settle for one of your beers." Jennae told her cousin with a hold out of her hand as the woman wasn't wanting to move anymore then she needed to.
Willie grinned and reached down into her cooler, passing one of her beers to her cousin. "If you're really wanting wine, I'll grab it when we run out of popcorn," she said. That might come sooner than expected, as the two of them were plowing through it. "We can always order pizza as well."
"Thanks." Jennae smiled lightly to her cousin as she accepted the bottle of beer. "Beer's fine," Jennae replied flipping off the cap to take a sip, "and I think I'll stick with popcorn. Unless you've got a craving for some pizza." Popping up additional bowls of popcorn would take this time then ordering pizza and then having to wait for it to be delivered. Besides as comfortable as Jennae had made herself she wasn't sure if she'd last through the whole viewing of True Lies.
Willie nodded and settled back into her seat for the time being. "Popcorn's good for now, but I think I may order at least some pizza for myself soon enough. A lady cannot live on popcorn alone," she said with a smirk.
"She could, but it would be highly advised against." The doctor in her seeped to the surface momentarily. "Besides, pizza has more of the major food groups in it." Not that pizza was any healthier then popcorn and saying it contained most of the major food groups was kind of pushing it.
"Pizza has at least real veggies in it, with the tomato, if nothing else," Willie said. If she was feeling wild, she may order a supreme, and that thing was usually loaded with veggies.
"So dear cousin of mine, other then vegging out on the couch what else have you done with your day." Jennae's inquiry was followed by the consumption of more popcorn and the drinking down of a bit more of her beer while her eyes remained focused on the tv and the movie currently playing.
"Hmm...worked at the chauffeur place during the day, mostly. Today I stuck mostly to working on cars instead of going out on drives," Willie said. She giggled. "I think my boss is afraid I'll leave someone in the desert again. Other than on New Year's, I've mostly been working on fixing cars instead of driving them." Fine by her, for the most part. She still did occasional drives for people who asked for her, though. That was completely different than picking up some random jackhole.
"I still can't believe you did that a first time." Jennae said with a little bit of a laugh still finding amusement in what her cousin had done. And she really couldn't blame Willie for having done it after learning what the creep had tried getting away with with her cousin.
Willie just laughed again. "That bloke deserved it," she said. "He's just doing good I didn't drive further out into the desert and leave him. He was still in walking distance to the city."
"Still, that was a gutsy move on your part, Wills." Jennae didn't think she would have come up with that thought, much less carrying out such an act. The resident doctor had to give props to her cousin for such imagination.
Willie smirked. "It was kind of gutsy, wasn't it?" she asked, sounding pretty proud of herself as well. "Plus, it now leaves me to mostly work on cars, which is kind of what I prefer, anyway."
"You should have gotten work as a mechanic instead of chauffeuring jerks around the city." The only thing Jennae could figure that was wrong with that scenario was that Willie would probably be making less money doing something she liked as compared to working the chauffeuring gig she currently had.
"Well, it was the job that was available, and the tips are heaven," Willie said, shoving more popcorn in her mouth. "So...what did you end up doing for New Year's? I mean, I had to work and it was lovely and hellish, but did at least one of us get to have fun?"
"I spent a nice, peaceful evening here New Years Eve." Jennae answered with a smile. Which really was preferable to Jennae then going out to one of the clubs that must likely had been over crowded with the music blasting so badly a person probably couldn't hear themselves thinking.
"So, you hung out in the apartment all by yourself?" Willie asked in a sing song voice. She hoped that her cousin at least had SOMEONE with her on the New Year's.
"Did I say I was by myself." Jennae responded back with faint traces of a smile. With Willie having had to work that night, Jennae very well could have spent New Years Eve alone in their apartment had it not been for Daniel phoning a couple days prior wanting to come out to Vegas to spend New Years with her.
Willie gave her a grin when she said that she wasn't by herself. "Oh...you have got to share who you spent the night with, Jennae," Willie said in a giddy voice. "Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
"Alright, Miss Enthusiastic." Jennae couldn't help grin at her cousin and her sudden enthusiasm in regards to her New Years. "He's a follow doctor I met a little ways back at a medical conference the city was hosting. We just seemed to hit it off and have had a couple phone conversations before plans were made for him to come out here and spend New Years Eve with me." Jennae explained to her cousin in regards to one Dr. Daniel Portman.
"Ooh, another rich handsome doctor, eh?" Willie asked with a grin. "And that is wonderful. Sure, you're schedules might not always mesh, but you can totally understand one another because you know you both work crazy hours saving lives and junk."
"Well, I don't know about the rich part." Jennae stated to her cousin and then took a drink of her beer. He was good looking, Jennae had to admit that to herself, but the brunette wasn't sure about his being rich. Not that it mattered to her. Money wasn't everything, after all. "And yes, being in the same profession helps as we both know how crazy things can get and how long the days can be. You know, after Anthony I didn't think I'd meet anyone that I'd actual consider getting into a relationship with that went beyond friendship." Jennae admitted solemnly to her cousin. She didn't think she'd ever get over losing the man and attempt to move on. That was until she met Daniel.
Willie gave her a more genuine smile other than her usual playful one when Jennae admitted that she may be finding someone that she wanted to have a real relationship with. "Well, that's good," she said to her cousin. "It's good to find someone that might be worth having a relationship with." Everyone should be so lucky.
"What about you? Any prospects in Willie Ravendale's realm of the world?" Her cousin was the more outgoing of them, which in Jennae's opinion made it easier for Willie to find someone then herself. Her cousin just seemed to have the type personality that attracted guys like a moth to a flame.
"Well, there's the guy that I've been kinda seeing as of late, Jono the singer," she said with a smirk. "He's great. I kind of get the feeling that there's something that he's not really telling me about, but I've been over at his home, so I at least know that, unless he has two homes, always possible, he's not like, hiding a spouse or something."
"Jono the singer? Sounds like a lounge act." Jennae said with a bit of a teasing smile. "So, am I going to get to meet this Jono anytime soon?" Her cousin had been to the guy's house so there had to be something at least semi serious between the two.
"Well, he does perform a lounge act," Willie admitted with a giggle. "And you can totally meet him. Just gotta find a night when you are both off, which might be a small feat on its own."
"Or on a night that I'm off cause it sounds like his act is one not to be missed." Jennae amused with the fact that her cousin was seeing a guy calling himself Jono the Singer who performed as a lounge act. She was picturing Jono the Singer as an act like Murph and the Magictones from the movie The Blues Brothers.
Willie nodded. "You would love his act. The next time that you're off, we'll go over to his club and watch him play, OK?"
"I should have a night off next week sometime. God, I hope I fill out a dress like that when I'm her age." Jennae commented when her attention diverted back to the tv when the part of the movie where Jaime Lee Curtis was walking the hallway to the room in quite the form fitting dress.
"Next week should be perfect." Willie turned her attention back to the screen. "That's called many many sit ups that let you get that body when you're that old," she said. "Still, I hope for the same."
"With my schedule I'm lucky if I can get in a handful of sit-ups." Jennae said sadly to her cousin. If she couldn't work in an hour's worth of sit-ups now, Jennae knew she wouldn't be able to manage it in the future. She'd just have to deal with being envious of one Jaime Lee Curtis.
"And I'm just lazy as far as sit ups are concerned," Willie said. "Plus, I'd probably have to give up pizza, beer, and popcorn, so we know that's not happening," she said with a giggle.
"Heaven forbid you should have to give up that healthy diet of yours." Jennae said flashing a grin over to her cousin. Given the choice, Jennae knew her cousin would live off pizza, beer and popcorn. So it could be said Willie was lucky to share an apartment with Jennae as the older Ravensdale saw to it that the blond had a little variety in what she ate.
Willie laughed again. "I can't help what I like, and I'm going to eat what I like. I'll worry about my waist line in a few years when it starts to hit me or something." God, her diet was going to bite her in the ass big time in a few years. Still, that was the future. Who cared until then?
