Dance With Death - Part Two
Who: Gypsie and Cliff
Where: University Medical
When: Tuesday, January 11th - Afternoon after this scene
Gypsie had started to find her way back to the world with an almost inaudible moan and twitch of her fingers before her hand inched ever so slowly from her side to try and lift to touch whatever it was she subconsciously felt at the side of her neck.
Cliff was quick to reach for her hand to stop her from grasping at the bandages, since if she ripped at her stitches, she'd need to be resown. "Shh... Gypsie... don't touch..." he murmured, trying to sooth her. "You're in the hospital... you were hurt." He put more meaning behind her last statement, since while he was the one to hurt her, he didn't want anyone else to know that, since the nurse was currently in the room at the time.
With a couple slow blinks her eyes opened with a slight tip of her head to the side to try and focus on the face. Licking at her dry lips the Slayer managed one word in a raspy voice. "Cliff?" And then a second, "hospital?" Her eyes turned away from him to focus on the room itself slowly becoming aware of that was exactly where she was.
"Hospital," he repeated, moving over to pour a cup of water for her. He set a straw in it and placed it close to her lips for her, since... she shouldn't have to move or do much of anything right now. God, he felt like Hell right now. "Please drink," he asked of her, his voice practically a whimper.
Her mouth found the tip of the plastic straw and Gypsie indulged herself with a small sip. When her head gentle fell back against the pillow the slayer looked at the boy with a certain gentleness. "Not your fault." She wasn't blaming him in the least for what happened. She had provoked the dhampir into feeding to save his life, an act which almost cost her hers.
"Yes it is," he replied, glancing over his shoulder to make sure that they were alone before continuing. "I hadn't fed properly in days... and human blood was hard enough to resist, as it was." Yes, he did work in the hospital over the summer... mostly to train himself off of human blood, but she didn't need to know that. "If I'd told you about the risks..."
"I wouldn't have done..... anything differently." Gypsie licked at her lips once more while trying to ease herself up to something of a sitting position. "Won't let you die."
He helped her sit up, actually moving behind her adjust her pillow as well – again, he worked at the hospital. Doing things like that were practically second nature to him now. "I don't want you to die, either. Okay?" He gently grasped her chin and tilted her head back to look at the bandaging on her neck. "Does it hurt?"
"Barely noticeable." Gypsie lied looking up at the boy with a weakly managed smile. A thought then crossed the Slayer's mind and Gypsie moved, slowly, to get off the bed. "What time is it?" The teen glancing around the room to locate her clothes. Surely her things were there and none of the hospital staff had took it upon themselves to discard the articles of clothing.
He moved out of her way, knowing that he couldn't really put his foot down on this... but maybe the guilt was wearing on him, as well, because he knew damn well that if she was hurt by something else, he'd make sure she'd stay in that bed. He sighed and checked his watch. "It's not even one o'clock. ...Why?" He asked with a suspicious hint to his voice.
"Joey." Hearing that it wasn't as late in the day as she was thinking, Gypsie let herself sit at the edge of the bed with no more thought given to getting up. "Suppose to meet her after school." She might have super slayer strength when she was at one hundred percent, but right now the slayer was still feeling the effects of almost being drained of blood.
"...Just... take it slow for a couple of days, maybe?" He asked hopefully, idly wondering if she'd listen to him on this. God, did he feel like a kicked puppy for what he did to her. He sat down on the edge of the bed beside her and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
"As long as it's not here." Though they didn't heal or recover as quickly as vampires or dhampirs, slayers did take less time to heal then the normal human, and Gypsie didn't think she'd be needing two whole days of taking it easy. "Just don't go getting into anymore sword fights til I'm one hundred percent again." Gypsie told him reaching over slowly to take hold of his free hand.
He chuckled lightly. "I promise. ... It's not something I'll enter into lightly again." He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "Maybe when you're one hundred percent we could... spar? You could teach me to be a better fighter. Plus... seeing you all sweaty is kinda a turn on." He was trying to add a little levity. Leave him alone.
"You need more then a few pointers." She teased with a faint smile. "And that whole sweaty thing being a turn on? Well, it runs both ways." Heck, just looking at him sometimes kind of turned the slayer on. Something she wouldn't openly admit, nor would she deny if questioned on it.
He couldn't help it but give her a cocky grin then, "Is that so? Well... Now I'm hoping that you'll heal a hell of a lot faster now."
"Which I'll do well away from this place." Being home, or as it was Joey's home, would serve her better. She wouldn't be poked or prodded, or checked on every couple of hours. Gypsie hated being under constant observation by total strangers.
"Alright," he replied, knowing that she might be leaving against medical advice. "I'll get the discharge forms. ...I could pick up Joes from school, if you want. We could bring ice cream home to you," he suggested. Well, what do you know. He has a sweet side, after all.
"Don't say anything about what happened." Gypsie reached up to pull the bandage off her neck. She didn't want Joey knowing, or seeing any visible signs, of what had happened to Cliff or herself. "Thank you." She said after to his offer of picking Joey up from school and scoring ice cream for the three of them. Yes she was expecting Cliff to spend some time at the house after picking Joey up.
"I won't say a word," he promised her, idly thinking that Joey would likely pick up that there was something odd about them (she had a knack for that), but wisely said nothing. Instead, he went to get the discharge forms and returned a moment later, handing them to her.
Gypsie was in a state of undress as the slayer had gotten off the bed after Cliff lift to locate her clothes. With the hospital gown discarded to the floor, Gypsie had barely slipped into her jeans when the dhampir returned with the paperwork for her release and offered the forms to her.
Leaning slightly on the bedside table for support, Gypsie found a pen and quickly, or as quick as she could, the slayer filled the spaces out and then handed them back to the boy.
He smiled at her awkwardly, since he probably should have allowed her more time to change but given her hint of urgency, he rather suspected that she wanted to leave as soon as possible. He took the paperwork but instead of leaving the room, he reached over for her bra and looped it through her arms before she had a chance to protest, clasping it at the back, he murmured: "You'll have to wear turtlenecks for a while, I think," before giving her her shirt with a wink, again, trying to add a little levity.
"Nah," Gypsie started speaking accepting her shirt from the boy, "I'll just tell people, if they ask, that you're quite inexperienced in giving hickeys." Teasing back while easing into her shirt. Though wearing turtlenecks til her neck healed actually wasn't a bad idea. Long as her hair was it wouldn't keep the wound on her neck concealed completely.
He laughed and rolled his eyes. Some people would likely believe that, funnily enough, given that before Gypsie, he didn't really show an interest in any of the girls at school. Then again, none of them were really his type. "Alright." He took her hand and led her out, dropping by the forms at the nurses station before leading her outside, figuring they could catch a cab back to Joey's house. "When we get there, I want you to get into your jammies and get comfortable, you hear me? I'm gonna be all male nurse for you for the rest of the day."
"You know that might be nice, and interesting, you going all male nurse on me." Gypsie responded with faint traces of a smile just as a cab pulled up in front of the pair. Once they were both settled in the back with Gypsie leaning slightly against the dhampir as he gave the driver direction. The vehicle was soon pulling away from the hospital to take the route given to Joey's house.
