Need a Protection Spell
Who: Aidan and Addison
Where: Body and Soul Magic Shop
When: Wednesday, June 17, Early Evening
After riding his motorcycle to the local magic shop, Aidan walked inside of the magic shop 'Body and Soul'. He had only recently arrived in Las Vegas, and was looking to get himself acquainted with the local magic shop. As a Watcher, it was never a bad idea to know the local magical proprietor, right? Aidan didn't think so, anyway.
Some days, Addison Kowalski dressed the part of a magic shop owner. Long, flowing black or white dresses, ethereal makeup... but today? She looked more like a sweet hippie than anything: form-fitting bluejeans, a flowy purple blouse, and a handmade matching shawl over it. Her smile was bright as she walked to the front of the store, waving to the man. "Good evening... can I help you?"
Aidan looked up at her. Actually, he half expected her to be kind of 'hippie' looking. In America, it was either that or someone dressing up to look like what they thought a witch should look like. In Aidan's experience, it was the ones who dressed like whatever their personalities were that were the really powerful ones, not the ones who dressed like they were 'supposed' to dress. "Actually," he said, his British accent coming out clearly, "I was looking for some ingredients for a simple protection spell." Let's see what she knew.
"Hm. Well... that would depend on how 'simple' you mean, of course." Because really.. to some people, a 'protection spell' is no different than a 'love spell'. Something silly they do for shits and giggles. Which was why she kept the powerful stuff hidden from the general public.
"Something that actually works," Aidan said with a slight chuckle. He wasn't the most magically inclined person out there, but he could do the basic stuff without much problem, and managed to not turn his hair green or set something on fire in the process.
"If you're serious... and this isn't a lark... follow me." She said with a gentle smile, turning to walk towards the back of the store, where she kept the more reputable books. She tended to keep "typical" books up front, things that the average person could find in any Barnes & Noble, so that it would give the appearance of a normal, 'schmaltzy' book store at first.
He did follow her to the back, where she kept the real books and such that would actually do something, as opposed to the other stuff, which wouldn't even help you float a pencil if you tried. "Thank you," he said to her as he followed.
"Do you mind my asking what you need the spell for, sir?" Her voice was actually kind of hilarious if you knew her nephew... because she really sounded like the sweetest, most loving thing EVER.
"I just moved here, and I'm not familiar with the area, nor the people in the area," he admitted. "I suppose I want the equivalent of a burglar alarm, just something that will also keep said burglar from trying to hurt me as well as keep him from stealing my things."
"Ah!" She said cheerily, quickly plucking a book from a higher shelf, and handing it to him. "This might help you. It has spells specifically designed to guard your home or domain. It's not 'protection spells' exactly, but still sounds more like what you're looking for." She clasped her hands behind her back, her smile as bright as the lights in the room.
He smiled at her. "Sorry, I'm not as familiar with the specific terminology as my job requires me to be." He was much better with the physical side of things, to be honest. Of course, he was also a trouble maker when he went to the Watcher's Academy way back when, but that was because he was easily made restless as well.
"Your job requires you to know about magic at all?" She asked, raising a slim brow with interest. "Mind my asking what you do?" So she was curious, ok? Most people that come in don't mention needing this stuff for their job.
"I'm a Watcher, actually," he said to her. "We're supposed to keep up with at least some knowledge of magic as well, but I never was very good with books. I had too much energy to sit and ready anything for very long growing up."
"Wow... that's pretty impressive, actually. I've known a few watchers... if any of you need some help with anything, I'm almost always here. I'm going to be... a little busier soon, but I still plan to be here a lot." A little? Yeah. More like a LOT. But she didn't seem to realize that.
He nodded. "I'll let the others know once they get here and I run into them," he said to her. Definitely a pretty lady, which made him curious as to just exactly *what* was going to be making her busier. "May I ask what's going to make you busier? Just so I know to tell the others, of course."
"Oh... I'm... going to be taking a couple of kids into my custody. Two nieces that have nowhere else to go." Because really... how the HELL else cold she explain it? "And one is apparently a young witch who could use some... guidance."
He nodded. "That's very kind of you, actually." So, good looking lady who was so caring as to take in two nieces? Definitely up his alley. "They are very lucky to have an aunt such as you."
"Well... I haven't seen my family in years. My brother... was a bit of a jerk. Kind of tore the family apart. But I'm trying to make up for lost time. This is the least I can do." It occurred to her that she'd given him what he wanted, yet he stayed. To talk to her. Well. Least she could do was be hospitable, right? "Would you like some coffee or tea? I have both brewing in the back..."
"Oh, yes, tea would be lovely," Aidan said, caught a teensy bit off guard at the offer, but was glad of it. "Thank you," he said to her. "This is a very lovely shop you have here, actually."
Lovely? She raised a brow, kind of sweetly surprised by how... pleasant and soft-spoken he was. He looked, well... more like a cocky, musclehead, to be honest. "Thank you. I... try to be able to help anyone who needs it, so I try to keep a little of everything stocked."
He was a little cocky, he just happened to have a decent vocabulary. Plus, it was always good to surprise people. It kept them on their toes, after all. "I'm glad of that, because, while I'm not completely inept with magic, I'm far from advanced with it. Who knows what I could have done trying this on my own."
"If you feel you need any tips, you can come back anytime Like I said... I'm usually here.: She grinned, her eyes crinkling a little as her lips curled into that sort-of adorable smile
He nodded. "I'd be more than happy to do so," Aidan said to her, smiling back at her. "I'll certainly have to take you up on the tips. I must admit, I got distracted easily during my classes growing up."
"My grandmother taught me everything. She was... far more powerful than I'll ever be. An amazing witch, really." She found herself nibbling her lip a little there. It really HAD been quite a while since she'd bee flirted with, even a little. Of course, she kept herself HERE most of the time, so what would you expect?
"Lucky for you, then," Aidan said to her. Truth was, Aidan had some ability, it was just woefully underdeveloped because he didn't have much of a work ethic growing up. It was the only thing that had been keeping him alive when he tried magic now. "She's sounds like she was a wonderful lady."
"She really was. Thank the goddess she didn't live to see how her son turned out." She still cursed the very name of her brother, for how horrid he'd been to his children, and how he chased away pretty much every other family member.
"Sorry that you seemed to have had a brother made of the scum of the earth," Aidan said. "Sorry to say that, but that's what he sounds like from what little you've said about him."
"He was incredibly abusive to his children. Had I know that sooner...." She shook her head, sighing. "Anyway. On to other topics. So.. a watcher? Do you have a Slayer as of yet?"
He shook his head. "I haven't been assigned one yet, no," he said back to her. "I've only recently arrived to the states, but I'm sure that I'll get one soon enough."
"Well... once you have one, if the two of you need any sort of supplies or anything, please don't hesitate to come to me for anything you might need..." She gave him a bright, sincere smile, just happy to be possibly doing something that MATTERED.
