Work Night
Who: Cordelia and Miranda
Where: The Lucky Charm Casino
When: Oct. 24th, Evening
Ugh. While Cordelia loved having a job that decently paid her bills without having to completely whore herself out on the strip, she wasn't sure if she could go so far as to say that she LOVED her job. Her polyester uniform was itchy and some weird green color that did NOTHING for her complexion, she had to stand on her feet for hours at a time and deal out cards to old men who kept trying to grab her butt, and she wasn't doing anything that was remotely fun. Plus, all the florescent lighting was making her start to feel icky. She was almost positive that she was allergic to it. She needed to get good enough in her dance classes FAST so that she could join a show and eventually become the lead in one. That would totally make all of this worthwhile. "Alright, next deal," she said, a smile plastered on her face. "Everyone place your bets."
Miranda Hadley was something of a poker pro, so it should come as no surprise that she sat down at Cordelia's table that night, dressed in a strapless black dress with a large belt fastened to her waist and matching black pumps, her long blonde hair curling beautifully over her shoulders. She didn't wear a hint of make-up and looked, for a word? Stunning. She gave Cordelia a pleasant and almost devilish smile as she placed her bet and couldn't stop herself from saying, in her very distinct Australian accent: "Hello, gorgeous." She rolled her eyes then: "I bet you hear that all the time."
"Yep, constantly," Cordelia said immediately. "Even in my polyester pant suit, and I never thought that I'd have to say that." Talk about a yuck factor. She set out the cards for everyone on the table, including Miranda. "So, who's hitting and who's standing?"
"Well, it wasn't your clothes that I was looking at," Miranda commented lightly, tapping the table twice to indicate that she was hitting. "You have lovely eyes," she clarified, not wanting Cordelia to think she was looking at certain... other assets. Which, let's face it, were more than lovely too. She took a beer from a waitress that passed by, tipping and talking to her briefly. Apparently they knew each other. Heh.
"Thank god, because this place makes us dress like drunken leprechauns or something." The place was called 'The Lucky Charm Casino' and they made them wear green uniforms that looked somewhat similar to what the leprechaun wore on the cereal box. Delightful. "And thank you."
"Ah. That explains why an Irishman asked me if I was looking to steal his pot of gold when I first came here. I just thought he'd had one too many," Miranda said, a faint blush coming to her cheeks. That... actually explained a lot of the random encounters that she'd had here, come to think of it.
Cordelia laughed. "Yep, welcome to the Lucky Charm Casino, where you'll walk into every sort of cliche you can imagine." If someone walked around trying to serve that kid's cereal she wouldn't be shocked.
"Well, it could be worse," Miranda started to say with a sly smile. "You could be one of the people doing Disney On Ice in one of those horribly oversized stuffy costumes." She wrinkled her nose at the image.
Cordelia made the quick round of asking different people if they wanted to hit or stay, then moved back to Miranda. "Oh no, I knew that, no matter what I did, I was going to show my gorgeous face," she said with a grin. "So, hit or stay?"
"That's commendable," Miranda replied with a chuckle. She took a sip of her beer while Cordelia did the rounds, and said: "I'll stay."
Cordelia nodded. Once everyone had settled their cards, she flipped hers over. "Dealer has 19. Alright everyone, let's see what you've got."
Most everyone had busted, but oh my... when Miranda flipped her cards? There was a 21. "Call me Lucky," she grinned.
"And we got a 21!" Cordelia called out with a grin. "Lucky indeed."
"Must be my Aussie blood," Miranda said with a cute little wrinkle of her nose. The waitress passed by again and she couldn't help it but smirk. "Apparently I'm lucky in more ways than one." She took her winning's and tipped Cordelia handsomely. "It was a pleasure t'meet you, Cordelia. I'm Miranda, by the way." She winked. "I hope to see you soon."
