Meeting at a Bar
Who: Adrien and Molly
Where: The Wild Coyote
When: Aug. 25, Evening
Adrien was still looking into the idea of getting some live acts to come to The Wild Coyote, but so far he wasn't having TOO much success with it. Of course, he had to promise his sisters that he would leave the jukebox there and make sure that it was still used often, but he also figured that some live music say, once or twice a week, would bring in more customers, especially if they could get a band to come in that already had a following. He was fine for now, though. He wanted to make sure that he found the right sort of bands to come through here. He didn't just want to slap any random person on stage, after all.
Right now he was keeping himself busy by cleaning off the bar and restocking the beers behind the bar. Tonight was starting off kind of slow. Of course, it was a Wednesday night. Unless you count regulars and the occasional working person who wanted to celebrate 'Hump Day' there wouldn't be too much going on here tonight.
Wednesday. "Hump Day" as some referred to it, as Adrien had. But for Molly, it was the same kind of day she'd been having the past week while she and her brother moved into their new loft a few blocks from The Wild Coyote. The young, blind woman was getting rather annoyed at her older brother's over-protectiveness and she just needed a few hours away from the guy. Lord knew she loved her brother, but at the same time she wanted to slap him sideways 'til Sunday. Yes, she was blind but that surely didn't make her an invalid baby.
So, with the assistance of a kind regular she happened to run into, literally, on the corner the two of them made their way to The Wild Coyote that she'd heard good things about from her neighbors on the floor above her. "George," the gentleman who walked her inside, escorted her to bar and left her in the capable hands of the staff while he went off to join his friends at a table.
Molly could hear someone puttering around behind the counter and lifted her hand, "Excuse me," A smile curved her lips, her unseeing gaze turning toward the sound of beer bottles clinking together, "Could you tell me what you have on tap?"
Adrien looked up and caught sight of Molly, immediately realizing that she was blind as well. She wasn't the first blind customer that he had ever served, so it wasn't a big deal to him. Just something to make note of. "We have Budweiser on tap," he said to her, "but we have just about anything you'd want in bottles if that's not to your taste."
"Hmm...." was Molly's immediate reply, her fingers drumming against the counter as she debated, her teeth chewing on her lower lip thoughtfully. Then a moment a later, a smile curved her lips and she crossed her arms, leaning them against the bartop, "If you have Red Dog behind this counter, you can call me Surprised." Molly laughed.
The grin could easily be heard in Adrien's voice. "Red Dog it is," he said, going to the mini fridge at the bar and grabbing one, popping the top off and handing it to her. "So, do you have a name other than Surprised?"
A grin broke out on her face as she both lifted the bottle toward her lips and heard the joke, "Oh, well, most people call me Molly." She took a swig of beer and set the bottle back on the counter, that grin reappearing on her lips, "And who would be my very attractive sounding bartender this evening?" Like it or not, Molly was a sucker for voice like this guy's. Also, sense of humor was always a plus in her book...not that she was looking to hook up. Well...actively, anyway.
"Then I'll call you Molly," he said to her. "I'm Adrien Moreau. My family actually owns this bar. I run it along with my two sisters, who are god knows where right now." Tonight it was just him there, so there really was no telling just where they had gotten to at the moment. Quite possibly raising hell somewhere or another.
"Then I'll call you Adrien!" Said the blind woman, saluting him with her bottle of Red Dog, which she then took another swig from. At the mention of his siblings, Molly couldn't help but roll her own eyes. "My brother is back at my loft mostly like nailing everything down 'for my own good.'" She air quoted the last few words, but grinned anyway, "Don't get me wrong, I love my brother, but sometimes he takes the whole overprotected, big brother thing waaaaay too seriously." Molly winked (yes, winked) at Adrien and shrugged, "But, that's family, right?"
"I'm fairly certain that if I tried if I tried to 'protect' my sisters they'd hit me over the head with a beer bottle," Adrien said with a chuckle. "At least you know that your brother loves you, though, if he's wanting to protect you so much."
Molly laughed and she had to agree with a nod regarding his own siblings, "Can't say I disagree with them. Right now I feel like hitting my brother over the head with a beer bottle." Her laugh turned into a sigh and she shrugged, "I had a rough childhood. He's just making sure I don't get hurt."
Adrien nodded. "I can understand him wanting to protect you then," he said. He did protect his sisters in ways that he could. Of course, they were more than capable of taking care of themselves in so many ways. Plus, they might do the 'attacking with a bottle' thing if he got too overt in his 'protective brotherly' stuff.
Molly shrugged and took another swig of her beer, "Yeah, well...it gets old after having to deal with it for a week." Despite her annoyances at her brother, Molly grinned and then folded her arms on the counter and asked, "So, Adrien, do you happen to have a Braille menu?"
"I'm sure my own sisters would agree with you," Adrien said with a chuckle. He reached under the bar and handed her the Braille menu. "If we kept them out, too many drunks would play with them and wear the dots down." Sadly, he wasn't kidding. He'd already had to replace a few once just for that purpose.
The blind woman quirked a brow, a little surprised, but who was she kidding? She shouldn't be; Drunks did crazy things when, well...drunk.
Molly thanked Adrien for the menu and perused it a moment before finally closing it and pushing it forward, "I'll have the house burger with chips, please!" Molly grinned.
He took the menu back and slid it under the bar before turning and shouting the order to the cook in the back. People didn't order food TOO much here, although it really just depended on the night and the crowd. "Should be ready in about ten minutes."
"Cool," Molly commented and took another swig of her beer. Cocking her head a bit, she listened to the bar for a moment and soaked in the atmosphere before she finally focused her attention back on Adrien, "So! How does one such as yourself come to be a bartender?"
"Well, the bar is kind of a family business," Adrien told her. "It was either that or be a waitress, and I don't have the legs for the shorts that they wear." He smirked. "Plus, I like talking to people, and you got to be a people person to do this."
The woman laughed at the mental imagery that blossomed upon Adrien's description and nodded in agreement, "I'm going to have to agree with you!" A grin remained on her face, "From the sound of your voice, I really don't think you have the legs for shorts, either." She took another swig of beer again, but not before adding, "Well, you've been very pleasant to talk to so far."
He couldn't help but laugh. "I didn't realize even my voice gave away my inability to wear shorts," he joked. "Glad I've kept you good company so far, at least." At least he was good for something then, huh?
"Oh, you'd be surprised by how much your voice reveals about you." Molly admitted freely and then finished off her beer and set the empty bottle aside, "For instance, I can tell you're a pretty laid back guy, but you'd probably do almost anything to protect your family."
"It reveals that much, huh?" he asked. He wasn't *too* surprised that she had picked that up, especially since he had mentioned his sisters a couple of times, but it was still neat to learn that his voice could tell her so much about him.
"Sure!" Molly replied, a smile on her lips just before she set aside the menu. The young blind woman was in the mood for some chicken tenders. Folding her arms on the counter, she teased, "Am I wrong?"
"Not at all," Adrien told her. He actually was very protective of his sisters. Even in their 'line of work' where someone could get hurt every time they went out and they all knew it, he still wanted to keep them as safe as possible.
"See?" Molly giggled and then playfully stuck her tongue out at the hunter. She then sat up a little straighter and drummed out a quick tune with her hands, "So! What's a girl gotta do around here to get some chicken tenders?"
"Put in your order and let my cook get it made up for you," he said playfully to her, putting in her order and sending it to the kitchen for her.
A laugh came from Molly at Adrien's teasing and she joked back with a snap of her fingers, "That's right, and make it snappy, bub!"
