Not On My Watch Who: Gwen, Gypsie and Joey Where: The Clark County Library Parking Lot, then the hospital When: Wednesday, August 18th
There were very few things that could distract Joey as spectacularly as books could, which was why it would come as no surprise to those that knew her that she was at the library until closing time (which was remarkably 9PM). She blushed faintly when one of the staff told her it was time to leave and quickly called her dad. He was understandably furious with her and told her to get home as fast as she could. She knew why he was irritated, just as she knew what kind of people were out there. She could hear them. Sense them.
Unfortunately, there was one little drawback to her ability that she wasn't aware of until she was half-way to her car. She couldn't hear the dead. They had no electrical impulses in their brains, which meant that they surrounded her before she had a chance to react. These were young vampires. Hungry vampires. They didn't yet know the pleasure of playing with their food.
"C-c-can't we all just get along?" She joked weakly, trying to look for an escape. Three against one weren't very good odds for a human. Knowing that she couldn't fight them, she did the next best thing. She screamed, loudly, before one of them grabbed her from behind and covered a hand over her mouth. He then did one thing she had always dreaded – he sunk his fangs into her neck.
"Oh, HELL no, bitches. Not on MY watch."
Oh dear. Think Gwen was kinda digging her new gig as 'leader' of the area Slayers?
"Why not try pickin' on someone a little tougher. Like, say... the hot blonde with the pointy stick?" Of course, the sentence wasn't even totally out of her mouth before said stick was suddenly between the ribs of the vamp biting Joey. And as quickly as the girl was covered in vamp-dust, there was suddenly only TWO vamps left for Gwen to contend with.
"See what I mean? Seriously... now we can do this the embarrassing way, where two of you go running from one girl probably yelling about revenge or payback, or the permanent way, where I kill both of your dumb asses right here, and that's the end. What's it gonna be?"
And, defiantly, she stood in front of Joey, to make sure the vampires would essentially have to kill her to get to the girl.
At the moment Gwen dusted one of the vamps and was protecting Joey from the other two fanged creatures, Gypsie was pounding pavement in the direction of the library. She had meant to arrive at the large building before Joey left there, but Gypsie had run into her own unforeseen problem. Thus preventing the dark haired teen from arriving at the public library before it closed and locked its doors for the night.
Good intentions aside, there was no denying the fact that Joey had lost a lot of blood – to the point where she was kind of sleepy. She clutched a hand to her neck as she staggered to the ground, shaking her head to try to stay awake. Make it quick, make it quick, she thought at Gwen, silently communicating that she needed a blood transfusion. She knew her body well enough by now to know that she wasn't in a good way.
"God damnit." Gwen muttered, taking a quick look at Joey and knowing a serious injury when she saw it. "Ok... you bitches want it? Come get it. Time to show you not to fuck with Gwen Morrison." Was it wrong that part of her wished Blake could see this, because she'd find it way hot?
Panting, Gypsie arrived on the scene finally and dove at the nearer of the two vamps after taking a quick second to take everything in. The only thing she had needed to see was Joey on the ground to spark the teen into action. "You son of a bitch." Gypsie growled as fingers twisted around the thick of her hidden stake as she tackled the vampire to the ground. "You targeted the wrong prey!" And with the snarling of words Gypsie slammed her sharpened piece of wooden deep into the chest of the blood sucker to pierce the creatures heart, thus leaving the undead guy nothing but a small puddle of dust. Her head then snapped to the direction of Gwen and the third vamp, the dark haired Slayer's eyes still red with a fiery rage. Gypsie then positioned herself ready to launch herself the the final vampire.
Seeing an opportunity to end this quickly and possibly still save Joey's life, Gwen decided to risk hers a little, and threw herself at the vamp, standing behind it as she held it's arms. "Stake it, girl! Now! Don't worry about hurting me just do it!"
Gwen's words barely touched Gypsie's ears before the younger Slayer sprang at the held vampire with an animalistic growl to delve the stake deep within the creatures heart. One moment the vampire was there, the next the thing burst into a cloud of dust.
Ouch. Ok, so... Gwen's plan did exactly what she both figured AND feared it would do: it quickly dusted the vamp, but in doing so, caused the stake to partially stab HER. Damnit. Still... her wound was hardly grievous, so she winced and tried to shake it off, trying not to think about the blood coming from HER now.
"This kid needs to get to a hospital. NOW. You know the area better than me... you know a shortcut?"
Gypise wasn't listening to anything Gwen might be saying. With the threat to Joey handled, Gypsie moved toward the girl to kneel down beside her. All the rage and anger that had steamed from her eyes evaporated the instant she knelt at the young girl's side.
"Joes, can you hear me?" Gyspie spoke soft and soothingly as she tried easing the into her arms before making any attempt of standing.
"…Mhm," was Joey's very astute reply. She placed a hand to her head and shook it slowly. Usually she had mental blocks up to shield from other people's thoughts, but… since she'd lost a lot of blood, she was weak and couldn't keep them up. She could hear what Gypsie and Gwen were thinking… what everyone in a five mile radius was thinking, actually. She tried to exude calm, however, which usually affected those around her. Panic wasn't going to do anyone any good right now.
"Oh. Well awesome. You know each other. Babe? The girl needs help. So here's where you stop being all hard-ass and help me get her to the hospital."
Honestly. Gwen was TRYING to be all calm and leader-like. But she kind of wanted to set Gypsie on fucking FIRE right now.
Gypsie looked up and over to Gwen giving the girl quite the hateful glare. "Shut up and get in the car." Finding the keys to Joey's car, Gyspie tossed them over to Gwen before trying once more to lift her friend up in her arms as she stood to her feet. "Everything's gonna be alright." She murmured softly to the girl as she moved toward the vehicle.
Gwen climbed into the drivers seat, grumbling to herself as Gypsie helped get Joey in.
"Oh, hey, thanks for saving my friend's life, Gwen. Oh, you're not such a bad gal, Gwen. Oh yeah, sorry for being such a flaming fucking bitch to you, Gwen..."
Gwen sighed and revved the car.
"Direct the way, Little Miss Sunshine."
"Can you just drive." Gypsie grumbled irritably to the other Slayer after she had gotten herself and Joey settled in the vehicle. She then supplied the older Slayer with directions on the quickest route to the hospital.
After arriving at the hospital a few minutes later, Gwen crossed her arms as the three of them rushed into the ER.
"Just... take care of your friend. I'll be right here. Waiting to hear that she's alright." She looked at Joey as they entered, whispering sweetly to the girl. "Be alright, honey, please?"
Hey, Joey had survived leukemia. She wasn't about to die because of a random vampire attack, thank you very much. The force was strong with this one. She smiled, a little droopy-eyed and said: "Thanks, Gwen," even though the blonde Slayer had never really *said* her name. Heh. "Really."
Well, now wasn't THAT interesting? Gwen wasn't sure if the girl had some mind-reading thing, or if she'd just heard her bitching to herself in the car. Definitely something to think about later.
"Hey... it's what I do, kid." She said in a soothing voice as the doctors took her away, then talking more to herself as she repeated it softly. "...it's what I do."
All Gypsie could when they wheeled Joey away was watch with worried eyes and her arms wrapped around her middle as if she were feeling sick. Which she was. Gypsie as blaming herself for the predicament Joey was now in. She should have been waiting outside the library when Joey exited the building.
Oh... balls. If there was anything Gwen couldn't take, it was seeing someone sick with worry. She walked over, placing a hand on Gypsie's shoulder with a sigh, whispering. "I'll stay right here with you until we know she's ok. You're not alone, here, ok?"
"She could have died out there. Alone. And it would have been my fault." Gyspie kept looking at the curtain that had been drawn closed around the room Joey had been taken to as she spoke. "I owe you." A debt that Gypsie didn't think she'd be able to repay to the other Slayer.
"Nah.You don't owe me, babe. I was doing my job. I save people. We all do." Hey... one last pitch couldn't hurt, right? Maybe this time it would get through to her. "That's all the other girls and I are banded together for. To save people. The world, even."
What a testament to Gwen's occasional maturity... normally? She'd have probably said 'Fine, then flash me those titties' or something.
It wasn't to try and save the world or people she didn't know that had Gypsie making the offer to the Slayer in charge here in Vegas. Her sole reason behind agreeing to join the band of Slayers in Vegas rest with one person. "If I agree to join this band of Merry Men of yours do I have your word of honor that you'll watch out for Joey? You and your band of Slayerettes?" It was only then that Gypsie turned to look at Gwen.
"I ain't gonna try to blackmail you into joining us, babe. I'd LIKE you to. I think you could benefit a lot from it." Gwen sighed, draping her arm soothingly over the girl's shoulders. "But one way or the other, we'll do what we can to keep your friend safe."
"I'll work with you, but not a Watcher." God, Gypsie hoped desperately that they would try and saddle her with some Watcher type. She could train sufficiently well on her own. Had been for a while now.
"We'll... see. If nothing else, maybe we can find someone for you you'd LIKE." Gwen immediately thought of Wesley's girlfriend, Narcissa... a woman possibly as rebellious and obnoxiously abrasive as Gypsie herself.
Well, she couldn't outright refuse that. Not if she was wanting help in protecting Joey and keeping her only friend in the city safe. "Alright. I'm in. Just don't go giving me a lame moniker like Little John or whatever." Gypsie smirked lightly at the other girl.
"Bitch please. I'd at least call you something cool. Like SuperBitch or something more fitting." Hey, nothing said Gwen couldn't be a little cheeky, right?
"Now that's classy." The younger Slayer smirked again. "Listen, you don't have to stick around. I can handle hanging here by myself." She'd find something to occupy her time until the doctor emerged from behind the curtain to hopefully inform her of Joey's condition.
"Nah. If I wasn't here right now I'd be at home stitchin' myself up, or sexin' up my hot-ass girlfriend. Maybe both. I think you guys need me here more."
As she said that, she batted away another nurse who'd come to try taking a looksie at the slight wound Gwen got from the other Slayer's stake.
Gypsie's face scrunched up a bit hearing that. She'd never been on that side of the fence, and truthfully never planned on visiting. But it wasn't something she could hold against Gwen as it was the girl's life, not hers.
"Would you mind getting some coffee, then?" Gypsie asked with a bit of hopefulness. She really wasn't wanting to leave the area until she had definite news on Joey.
"You got it. I hope you don't take it any certain way. Because I'm a lazy bitch and I'm just grabbin' cream and sugar."
Gwen laughed tiredly, not waiting for an answer before slowly walking towards the door, knowing she saw a coffee shop just down the street from the hospital...
"Thanks." Gypsie said appreciatively just as Gwen turned to head out of the hospital to get coffee. Finding a chair Gypsie sat down. Drawing her legs up to her chest the teen curled her arms around bent knees and then let her chin rest lightly on them with a bit of a sigh.
