He smiled meekly back at her as she reached for his hair. Before he knew what was happening there was an arm around him and a voice that was familiar, though it seemed as though over a great distance. He stumbled back into the man that had grabbed him and pulled him from Voe. The man's words were like a blur. His eyes fluttered closed for a moment in shock, could it really be his brother?
His smell was unmistakable, and when Fedir moved to stand in front of him Rion heard his own voice telling him to stop and leave as if he was standing outside of all of this. I'm not running anymore. he heard his brother say, and somehow Rion was able to smile for a fleeting moment. This whole thing was so sudden and so completely unreal. He'd hated his brother for years and now that he was right in front of him he felt his heart overflow with warmth.
It was Voe's voice that brought him back into himself so to speak. The reality of the situation sunk into him fast when Voe suddenly struck Fedir. "No!" Rion yelled as Fedir wavered on his feet. He grabbed his brother from the back in an attempt to hold him back, but he was a lot smaller than him and had a difficult time holding him.
"You blood sucking bitch!" Fedir railed in Russian, at the woman who'd just hit him. He chastised himself mentally, he should have been more prepared for her to attack him in some way. He thrust the dagger forth just as Rion had grabbed him around the chest. His little brother had always been weaker than him, and was no doubt still that way since he'd probably been starved by these psychos who were keeping him. "He's my brother! I will not step away! I'll kill you if I have to!" Fedir screamed at the woman.
Rion struggled against Fedir in what was a virtually futile fight. "Fedir, stop this! She's more powerful than you, she will kill you if you don't shut up!" He pleaded with his brother in Russian but to no avail. The next thing he knew, Fedir managed to elbow him hard in the ribs and knock him backwards off his feet. He landed on the cold hard ground with a groan.
Fedir hadn't wanted to hurt Rion, but he wasn't going to let this woman keep his brother, no matter what. "Let him go with me!" Fedir demanded, stepping closer to her with the dagger out in front of him. "Rion, run!"
Rion pushed himself up from the ground just as his brother had yelled at him to run. He took a step back, feeling for the first time that he actually had a small chance to escape. Yet, he couldn't leave and sacrifice his brother and there was also something else that stayed him; something else that disturbed him. He realized that he didn't really want to leave Voe. Looking past the fact that he was being kept as a pet, he actually enjoyed Voe's company. She was the first company he'd had in a long while after all. Besides, why would his brother care now? There were too many questions, and no time to find any of the answers.
"No. I can't leave." He said quietly, but just loud enough that it cause his brother to completely drop his guard to Voe and turn his head to look at Rion.
"No? No? You can't or you won't?" Fedir asked in hurt shock. Was his brother serious? Fedir had sacraficed so much to find him, could possibly even die and never see his wife and daughter again...and Rion was saying no?
"Both. If I stay, I might be able to get them to let you leave unharmed. Please, just go." Rion had never felt so torn between two things in his life, he felt sick to his stomach.
