The plan had been to take Bookbindery's latest prototype - Magical Burial Practices of Ancient Egypt - in to Flourish and Blotts to see if they wanted to place an order. The problem was, Marc wasn't very good at plans. Oh, he'd apparated to the shop, asked the guy behind the counter for the manager, but then the manager had been on his lunch break, and Marc's good intentions to hang around the bookshop until he was back had lasted all of about three minutes before he'd gotten distracted by something outside. So now, Marc was carrying around an impractically large pyramid-shaped book, wondering where he might find something fun to do. His path wound a meandering course towards Broad Strokes, pausing to take in various window displays along the way, and accepting a 'new & improved' pumpkin pasty from someone with a tray of free samples. By the time he reached the art shop, Marc had munched his way through half the pasty, unable to particularly tell what was new, or even improved, about it. Having both hands full, he had to wait at the door until someone came to let him in. He recognised Penny, and had known she owned the shop, but they hadn't had much occasion to talk since she'd graduated Hogwarts, so Marc mostly remembered her as someone who'd told him off for losing too many housepoints. (That may not have been the way Penny saw the conversation as having gone, but Marc was prone to taking things personally.) "Um," he said, articulately, and then paused. "Hi?" It definitely sounded like a question, but then Marc held out the rest of the pasty. "Doesn't this taste like every other pumpkin pasty you've ever eaten?" he asked. "Why can't we put something actually new inside? Like courgette, or chocolate." |
