Ben let go of him. While he still wasn't exactly happy that Aidan had found him, he could understand the impact of what he'd just told him.
He stood back and reached for a cigarette to replace the one he'd dropped when Aidan had first gone for him. As he put the cigarette in his mouth, he lifted his lighter to it with one hand and checked his head again with the other. The bleeding had already stopped, although it was still sore to the touch. "I know what it's like... having to leave stuff. You were a veterinarian, yeah? Well, say hello to Ben Ferguson, MD... or halfway anyhow." He took a drag on his cigarette and huffed a short laugh. "Told you I wasn't stupid. But it's no point dwelling on it. Won't do no good and there's nothing can be done."
