While Bethany's realisation about her feelings towards Adam had scared her at first, she'd finally come to terms with them. However, it hadn't really made her the happiest girl in the world. Especially because she had gotten to the point of naively concluding that nothing would ever happen between them. Something she had decided on her own, despite Teddy's attempts to tell her otherwise, because in the scheme of things, Adam really hadn't ever shown interest in her that way. And, while he had agreed to go with her to the ball, Bethany was sure that it wasn't in the way she had originally hoped for. She couldn't blame Adam for that, though, because she knew how everyone tended to view her. She was just everyone's friend. Nothing more, nothing less, and while Bethany wasn't the girl to complain about her life, that was starting to affect her more than she was willing to let on. But, Teddy had told her to give it time, so she was doing so, despite the fact that she'd pretty much given up on the concept of being more than Adam's friend.
Bethany had read Whispers of Witchcraft earlier that morning, and hadn't really had a chance to talk to Adam since. However, she was sure that it was something they were both going to laugh off like they did with the "Hufflepuff Mafia." And, as much as it would kill her to do so, she was preparing herself for it. Occasionally, some of her housemates had come up to talk to her, but she had brushed them off in a way that Bethany only knew how to do. Considering everything, she just wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone, especially with all the thoughts clouding her mind. So, it probably wasn't the wisest of choices to sit down in the common room. After her thoughts being disturbed more than once, she had picked up a book, hoping that everyone would assume she was busy. However, since she had opened the book, she had barely turned two pages. Instead, she stayed nestled in the corner of the lounge, staring at the pages, wondering if she was going to be okay with simply laughing off her and Adam's odds.
