WHO: Ana and Kasumi WHEN: Sunday June 29th, 2009 - morning WHERE: Just outside the main school building WHAT: Talking a little
Kasumi was sitting outside, having found a bench on the grounds. She'd just gotten out of her meeting where she'd discovered her spirit animal. She wasn't exactly impressed, though she'd done her best to hide that when she aws speaking to the professor. A chameleon, though, really? She hadn't really thought of herself as some kind of... lizard? With big buggy eyes too. She sighed a little bit, not really paying that much attention to her surroundings.
Ana groaned a little as she came out of the school. She'd just been told about her animal spirit... and she wasn't exactly sure what to think about it. She supposed it could have been worse, though the professor assured her that it was fine, that her power would more than make up for what she felt was 'less than amazing'. She looked up as she passed a bench, noticing a familiar face. Pausing, Ana turned to her and smiled, waving before clapping her hand on her thigh. "Hi there," she greeted.
Kasumi looked up, managing a smile for the other girl. "Hey. Um, it was Ana, right?" She gestured at the bench. "There's plenty of space for one more if you want to sit. How's everything going for you so far?" She looked around the grounds, watching as a couple of random students walked around. Some of them were obviously just as new as the two of them, but others had more certainty to their steps. Hopefully that confidence would come to them soon as well.
"Sure." Ana nodded and sat next to Kasumi, biting her lip as she got comfortable. Looking to the other girl, she watched her quietly a moment before shrugging. "Umm... It's been alright so far. A little weird, but... we are being trained to be super heroes, kinda." She giggled, amused by the idea. Some day she'd be running around inside giant robots, saving the world...
Kasumi smiled and nodded. "I know what you mean. As exciting as it is, and as glad as I am to be here, sometimes things are definitely a little weird." She shrugged. "But I guess we'll get used to it, right? It can't be that hard. the second-years don't seem too distracted by it at least."
"Definitely weird..." Ana nodded, agreeing, her blue eyes widened for a moment. "Yeah... they seem fairly confident. I haven't really had that much of an opportunity to talk to too many of them, but... That'll change. Hey, how scared are you about learning how to use your Zord?!"
She made a little bit of a face. "I don't even have any clue what it's going to be like. I mean, we don't really have anything to compare it to, right? It's probalby nothing like driving a car. And they're so big, too." She looked apprehensive. "I'm more looking forward to the martial arts and more hand-to-hand combat."
"Like driving a hundred cars all at once!" Ana said, suddenly excited and a little overwhelmed about it. "I'm... scared that I'll do something terrible, like running my Zord into the school building." She made a face, hoping something like that never happened. "The martial arts stuff will probably be a lot safer, anyway."
Kasumi nodded. "So they model the Zords after our animals, right?" She said, trying to imagine driving a giant chameleon around. How would it even move, really? She made a face again. "I don't know how well that'd work out with mine.... Although..." she suddenly got caught up in some interesting design ideas based on the little she knew about her animal spirit, and seemed to space out for a second.
"I dunno..." Ana trailed off, spacing out a little bit as well. "Well... like, do you know what type of animal you have? Maybe... it'll be easier than you think...?" She shrugged, a smile coming back onto her face. "I'm going to have a crane Zord... I... have no idea how that'll go. Shit... do you think that means I'm going to have to go through flight classes?"
"Probably," She admitted bluntly. "From what I know, cranes aren't that graceful if they've gotta walk. But flying's not so bad, at least you'll look all classy and impressive up there. I've got a chameleon." She made a bit of a face. "Maybe my tail will be able to grab things, but other than that...? I can't believe I got something so.... weird."
Ana smiled, rubbing her tongue against the inside of her teeth as she thought about it. She pulled out a chocolate bar a moment later and held it out to Kasumi in offering. "Wow, a chameleon? That's really cool... It's not that weird. I'm sure there's worse. I heard another student say he got a caterpillar. Be glad you aren't him." She snorted.
Kasumi laughed a bit and accepted some of the chocolate gratefully. "I hadn't even thought of that. I guess that would be a little weird." She grinned and shrugged. Just, every time I think of it all I can imagine are the huge bug-eyes. That's eventually probably going to be part of my uniform, isn't it? I'll be the bug-eyed ranger." She seemed to be at least just finding some humor in it.
Ana couldn't help herself at that, nearly spitting the chocolate back out as Kasumi suggested what her uniform would look like. "Oh my- you can't- you can't say that while I'm eating," she told her, giggling still, hiding her mouth behind a hand to avoid letting Kasumi see her potentially chocolate-covered teeth.
Kasumi giggled a bit as well, finding herself greatly enjoying Ana's company. "Well it's true! Unless my helmet's just got kind of the whole chameleon on it somehow." Still, she mercifully decided to change the subject. "So, Ana. Where are you from? One of the interesting things about being here is that everyone's from different places."
"Actually?" Ana smiled and shifted back onto the bench. "I'm from here. Not very exciting, I know... but... what can I say..." She shrugged, feeling a little silly. "What about you? Where did you get to grow up? Some place more interesting than here?"
She nodded. "I've pretty much lived my whole life on the east coast. We lived in Virginia when I was very small, but the moved to DC when I was about ten." She pursed her lips together slightly, then shrugged. "I like it here though, it's nice."
"It is really nice... Angel Grove is... well, it's cool because it's on a beach you know? And... I guess it's got all this history and everything, so there's all kinds of monuments to visit and whatever." She bit her lip, thinking about it. "You know... we should go see the old Command Center! I hear it's super cool... Nobody's allowed inside unless they're a part of the Ranger Academy."
