Charlie sighed and was about to respond to his comment about all of the 'smack' they were receiving, when he asked her about her book. It took a moment for the question to fully register, mostly because of the strange change of subject.
She chuckled briefly and said, "Actually, I did. It's been a while since I've read through it, so it was nice to do so again. I've had it for so long, I'm starting to get worried it will fall apart soon. I'd get a new copy, but my sis-" She stopped herself suddenly. "Sorry, my cousin gave it to me quite a while back, so I don't really want to buy another one." She gave another one shouldered shrug before going on. "We're really close, and it was a birthday present back when things weren't so great for my family... Sentimental value I suppose." She glanced away, feeling self conscious. It was a rare thing for her to come even that close to talking about her pre-Ranger years. She could hardly believe she'd just said even that much.
