WHO: David and Aiden WHAT: Getting a call from the adoption agency WHERE: The apartments on Academy grounds WHEN: August 29th, 7:30pm Note: As always, italics mean they're speaking German to each other.
Aiden was sitting on the couch a bit lazily. In one hand he held a book of poetry while the other tangled itself in David's long hair, petting through it lesiurely. The smaller man smelled clean and fresh and Aiden was wondering just how David always managed to smell so wonderful. Tilting the smaller man's head up, he met David's mis-matched eyes with his own, giving him an affectionate smile. "You are vonderful." He murmured, feeling his chest tense with adoration for his husband.
"I am not," David said, rolling his eyes a little at the affection. Aiden was ridiculous sometimes... or that was what he tried to tell himself anyway. Really, he loved the attention and smiled back, just as pleased as he could be. "What're we eating for dinner?" he teased, shifting to get closer - as though he could manage it, his arms tucked in tighter to his chest for warmth. He had a blanket wrapped around him, his body always cold somehow even in the middle of August.
Aiden smiled. "I vas thinking stroganoff." He murmured, still petting his fingers through David's hair. He was opening his mouth to say something else when the phone began to ring, making him jump a little and drop his book to the floor. "I vill get it." He murmured, and lifted David's head off him long enough to move to the phone. "Hello?" He asked, trying to lessen his accent as much as he could. He was silent for a few moments, his blue eyes growing bright, and he glanced over at David. "Just one moment, allow me to speak to my husband." Pressing the phone to his chest, he gave David a bright look. "It is the agency. They have a couple who liked our profile and would like to meet us."
David sat up to watch Aiden as he moved to answer the phone, wondering who might be calling them tonight. He thought that maybe it was Jason, asking if they would like to get dinner together, but... as Aiden listened to the call, David realized there was more to it. He perked a brow. "Oh... really?" He sat up more straight, blinking at his husband. "Uh... when? That was fast. Wasn't it fast, Aiden?"
"Tomorrow-- it was rather fast but perhaps these people are desperate for a good family?" He had expected to wait days or weeks for some sort of reply... not to have one instantly. Perhaps though, their profile had stood out. Former "civil servants", rangers in germany -- well off, both professors... "The woman is still with child -- she has another three weeks to go, so perhaps they decided last minute to give up the baby and saw our profile first." Something along those lines. "Should I tell them yes?" He asked it quietly, searching David's face.
"Uh... tomorrow... do we-... do we have anything going on tomorrow?" David blinked and looked around, trying to figure out an answer to that question. Tomorrow was... it was the weekend, they didn't have any plans... he couldn't come up with any excuses or valid reasons to have to put it off. Anxiety crept up his chest and wrapped around his lungs, making it difficult to answer right away. "Tell them yes then...?"
Aiden had been with David long enough to know his ups and downs, to see the fear creeping into his features. The older man brought the phone up to his ear. "Tomorrow should be fine. Four o clock? Okay. Dank-- Thank you." He hung up and then moved, pulling David closer. "It is going to be alright David." He breathed into his lover's hair, running soothing circles along the blonde man's back. "Meeting them is not the same as committing. We can still back out if you are uncertain."
David nodded when Aiden came closer, the older man easily pulling him into a hug. He allowed the affection, nuzzling close and trying to forget his anxieties. He couldn't help himself half of the time, knowing how he was and how he reacted to the real world around them. It was difficult at times, sorting through his emotions and living his life like other people did. He was glad to have Aiden to back him up when he felt like this... just, overwhelmed. "I know... I want to meet them... I just... I feel like it's all so much, so fast. We've never talked about this much before recently, so it's... been..." David laughed awkwardly, knowing that his husband - of all people - would understand him.
Aiden smiled, nodding. "It is all very sudden." He was startled by it too -- but doubt had never been his way, while David doubted, he had been their backbone. It worked for them. Holding the smaller man tightly, the former red ranger ran his hand up and down David's back, still working to soothe him. "When Mitsel kidnapped you -- all those years ago... I had never seen it coming. I never thought that one of our enemies would get so... close to home. He took you, and David... I could have never been prepared for that..." He paused, his eyes dark with the memory. "I could have never.... imagined... and then... when I was going to rescue you... I was so uncertain of myself. What if I was too late, or... what if he killed us both... it is the only time I have ever really doubted..." He inhaled slowly, remembering. "We can handle a child.... the world has been in our hands before."
David recalled the horrors involved with Mitsel, the man who had nearly torn them apart forever. The man that had torn them apart for an entire year, permanently scarring Aiden's files and their relationships together. He had taken so much from them in such a short span of time, and David shuddered slightly. It had been one of the most terrifying times of his life. He'd thought he was going to die in the hands of the alien... and then Aiden had come in by himself, blazing and furious, and had taken care of him... like he always had. "I know," he finally answered, sighing quietly. "It's just going to be an adjustment for us... for the both of us, Aiden. It's always been just the two of us. For ten years... and now we're going to try to raise a baby together. I'm starting to lose the color in my facial hair and we're adopting." He laughed a little, his face scrunching up in amusement.
