WHO: Ana and Kasumi
WHAT: Ana to the rescue!
WHEN: 8/29, 6:30pm
WHERE: Downtown Angel Grove
Kasumi left the restaurant from the back door, but wasn't surprised to find that there were reporters there, too. She tried to sneak past them with the hood of her light jacket pulled up, but was spotted anyway. After a few rounds of "Miss Yamada! Are you really a power ranger? How are they keeping you here?" bullshit, she finally lost it and started screaming as she ran out into the streets. "Leave me alone! I'm not a ranger! Just leave me the hell alone!" She fled down the street, fumbling her cell phone into her hand and fighting back tears of frustration. She hit the speed dial for Ana's number, her hands shaking as she raised it to her ear, knowing that they were all probably clambering into their cars behind her and hoping that Ana wasn't busy. As she listened to the phone ringing, she dodged into alleyways-- not the safest thing to do, but she had to shake them. She couldn't even 'port back to campus without giving herself away with them so close!
Ana startled, blinking as her phone started going off. She was in the middle of taking somebody's food to their table, and stopped to see who it was... She frowned, hoping it wasn't important but deciding not to risk it given all the problems Kasumi had been having. "Hey," she hissed, waving down one of the other girls that worked with her. "Would you take this to my table for me? Please?" She begged a little with her eyes, and finally the other waitress gave in. "Okay, but you owe me for this." Ana nodded and grabbed the phone, flipping it open as she ran to the back and outside. "Hello?" she asked, hoping she hadn't picked up too late. "You still there?"
Kasumi had just started to think that Ana couldn't answer, so her reply was full of relief. "Ana... oh, thank god." She was panting as she tried to run and talk at the same time. "Are you at work? I... I don't want to get you in trouble or bother you, I just... there are reporters on my tail and i can't get away from them." She choked back a sob as she ran, glancing back to see a news van turn onto the street she was on. "Shit! I was... I need somewhere to hide. I can't get away from them and if I try to get back to campus they'll either see the light or they'll follow me if I go on foot. I don't know how to make them leave me alone..." She was sounding more panicked and upset by the minute.
"Uh... oh shit, Kas... You should... can you get here safely?" Ana bit her lip, glancing down the alleyway. Kasumi only worked a few blocks from here. Maybe she could walk... "If you can get here, maybe you can just hang out until my shift ends and we can leave together? How far away are you?" She hated stuff like this. Being a Ranger was more difficult than a lot of people seemed to think it was, and she debated just taking off to find the other girl on her own.
"I'm not far... I think... I took a few alleys." She skidded as she made a last minute turn into another, too narrow for the van to follow her down. "I'm not really sure what street I'm on now." She bit her lip, then caught a glimpse of the road at the other end of the alley. "Wait. I think... I think I'm across the street from it. Should I go in front or...?" She shot a glance behind her, not wanting anyone to see where she took refuge.
"Okay..." Ana listened to her, not sure what advice to offer at the moment. She wasn't very good with street names either, and for the most part she found her way around by landmarks. Didn't most women do that...? "Uhh... no, come out back. I'm in the alley behind the bar. I'll meet you in a sec, okay?" She hurried to the end where her mind told her Kasumi would be coming from, still staying on the phone until she was sure she'd seen the other girl. Her... her girlfiend? Were they dating now? Blinking, she looked around, wondering at that in the back of her mind.
Kasumi shot out of the alley, pausing long enough to catch her breath before running across the street while paying little attention to the vehicles on it. When she saw Ana she practically cried out with relief, running to the blonde girl and throwing her arms around her, burying her face against Ana's shoulder. She was so relieved to see Ana that she let her fear of the reporters fade from her mind for the moment, simply allowing herself to be comforted by her presence. Slowly and casually, a photographer was walking by on the streets. He had been following Kasumi for about a block, but the van had distracted her so much that she hadn't really paid attention to one man. He crossed the street and sat down on a bus-stop bench, his camera carefully kept out of the girls' line of sight as he eavesdropped, hoping to get an interesting scoop.
Ana gladly threw her arms around Kasumi, nearly dropping her phone in the process and trying to get it closed. "There you are," she said, smiling as she gave the other girl a good squeeze. "I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of that right now... it's totally unfair." She nuzzled her a little, feeling comforted herself by Kasumi's familiar scent.
Kasumi took a deep breath, turning and pressing her face slightly againt Ana's neck. "God, Ana..." She closed her eyes, whispering. "I wish I could make them go away..." She stayed there for a moment before standing straighter, blushing a little bit and reaching up to tuck a strand of Ana's hair behind her ear. "I'm keeping you from work..." she said regretfully, her eyes straying to Ana's lips. She smiled a little as she thought about kissing her again. That would probably make her feel better. The man on the bench had pulled out a small pocket mirror and was watching them covertly between the slats in the bench, a suspicion beginning to form in his mind.
Ana smiled softly when she felt the brush of fingers, blinking before meeting the other girl's gaze again. "It's okay... I don't think they even really mind all that much, I mean it's just... it's just a silly job. I can always find another one if they can me and..." Ana swallowed, noticing the look in Kasumi's eyes. She wondered how this had happened for a brief moment, leaning in just slightly, hesitating, unsure of herself. "I want to kiss you again," she whispered, giggling softly out of embarrassment.
Kasumi grinned a little, giggling as well. "Me too." Without another word she pulled Ana a little further into the alleyway, then pushed her gently back against the wall. She swallowed once, nervously, then leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to Ana's lips, one hand reaching up to touch her cheek gently. It was all very sweet, she felt; at least until she heard a soft clicking noise nearby. The photographer had given up all pretense of hiding and was leaning against the back of the bench, his camera snapping photos quickly.
Ana's eyes slipped closed whent he kiss came, melting into it without thought. She could feel her pen digging into Kasumi's leg and giggled a little, imagining if she had been a guy and how awkward something like that could've been. The clicking sound from nearby didn't bother her so much as the flash did, and Ana broke away to stare in shock at the photographer down the alleyway. "What the hell!" she snapped, mouth open in shock.
Kasumi pulled slightly away as well, her eyes widening for a moment before then narrowing angrily. The photographer grinned, dropped his camera into it's case and waved with a cheerful "Don't mind me!" By the time the words were out of his mouth, however, Kasumi had run over, grabbed the collar of his shirt, and dragged him into the alley as well, pushing him much more violently against the wall. "I am so tired of you guys!" She said, sounding pissed off even though she was just trying not to cry. She wanted her privacy! She wanted to kiss Ana without worrying if someone was going to paste it all over tomorrow's headlines! ... Although... Still glowering, she looked at the man. "What are you doing?! Why won't you people leave me alone to live my life however I want?! It's not your business any more than it is my father's!" The man simply held his hands up, snickering slightly. "Hey, if you want to sneak away from home to be with your girlfriend, that's none of my business. Just, some people get all curious, you know? Right sugar?" The last question was addressed at Ana and accompanied with a wink, and Umi felt her blood start to boil.
Ana huffed, jaw squaring off as the man addressed her. She had been shocked by Kasumi's abrupt moves, but hadn't been all that put off by them given the circumstances. She stared him down angrily, coming forward to where the photographer stood near the brick wall. "You watch who you're calling sugar!" she snapped; her fist (small as it was) connected with his jaw and sent him sprawling, and she stood wide-eyed in the aftermath, heart pounding and knuckles pulsing.
The man's eyes widened as he sprawled to the ground, staring up at her. His hands immediately went to his camera case, which seemed to have come out unscathed, then he scrambled to his feet and glared at the two of them. Kasumi looked surprised as well, looking between him and Ana. After a moment, her shock gave way to laughter, and she pulled the other girl into her arms. The laughter seemed to be the last straw for the poor photographer, whose eyes went a little crazy at that point. "We'll see who's laughing when I send this to every major newspaper in the country!" He yelled, his voice breaking as he turned and ran away from them. Kasumi just continued laughing for a moment, though she did look around to see if there were any other reporters showing up. Reaching down, she took Ana's hand gently. "You okay?" she asked as she inspected it.
Ana thought about chasing the photographer off, concerned about whether or not he was actually going to post it. She hadn't told her parents about Kasumi... or that she liked girls at all... Looking back to the other girl, she blinked and stared for a moment before coming around again, eyes scanning rapidly a moment before dropping to their joined hands. "Oh, yeah... I'm... I'll be alright. Are you okay? Can you believe that jerk!?" She glanced back again, her blue eyes misted a little from the stress of what had happened to them.
Kasumi bit her lip slightly at how upset Ana looked. "I'm sorry... I guess I should've taken the camera away." Her laughter faded away and she swallowed a little bit. "I think we upset him just a little... Maybe you should um... come up with something to tell anyone who asks, just in case he does like he said..." She had been so relieved, thinking that it could mean a break for her, that she hadn't considered that it might not be great for Ana. The worried, stressed look on the other girl's face spoke volumes, though. "You could just say that I was being pushy. I'm pretty sure that came across in that picture." She grimaced a little, glancing around again. "Maybe we should go inside."
"No, uh... it'll be fine, Kas... no worries." Ana took Kasumi's hand in hers and smiled, trying to be reassuring if she could muster it up. She didn't want to stress her friend out, and didn't want to be stressed herself. "Maybe I'll just... go home early. I can just say I'm not feeling well, and they'll let me go... I don't call in very often, so it's not like they can fire me or anything, right?" She looked hopeful, opening the door to lead them inside. "We can just... go back to the Academy grounds and chill out."
Kasumi smiled weakly in return, still a little high-strung. "Okay..." She let Ana lead her along, sighing as she tried to stop her mind from racing so much. While Ana talked to her bosses, Kasumi stood quietly against a wall, feeling a little overwhelmed. She reached up and kneaded the back of her neck, trying to will the stressful feelings away while she waited for Ana.
Ana came back a few minutes later with her jacket in one hand and her purse in the other. She slung the latter over her shoulder and grabbed at Kasumi's free hand to take her outside. "Come on... they told me I could go home early so I'm not standing around for them to change their minds!" She grinned at the other girl and took her back outside, slipping into the alleyway and down the alley. "You wanna teleport home, Kas?"
"As long as no one's watching, yeah." She rolled her neck, looking very tired. "I just wanna get somewhere where we're at least moderately safe from these psychos." She laughed slightly, squeezing Ana's hand slightly. "I'm really sorry about the photographer thing..." The whole scene had just settled in her mind and she was beginning to really beat herself up over it.
"Sure..." Ana nodded and stopped when they'd gone halfway down another alleyway. "I don't think anyone can see us here...? And hey, don't worry about it." Ana pulled Kasumi closer to her, her hands on the slender shoulders. She met her eyes and kissed her sweetly on the lips. "I'm not embarrassed... I just wasn't expecting it."
Kasumi relaxed a little bit after the kiss, sighing a little and staying close to Ana. "Really? I just... I didn't want you to feel... I don't know." She swallowed, smiling nervously. "I like being with you. I don't want whatever happens next to ruin... whatever it is we've got." She blushed a little bit, realizing that the still hadn't really talked about 'whatever it was' that was between them.
"Whatever it is we've got..." Ana repeated the words softly, her gaze still on Kasumi. She gave her hand a gentle squeeze and shifted her weight, hesitating to teleport them away just yet. "I... Kasumi, are we...? I mean... do you wanna... be my girlfriend? Like, officially...? We can... like date, or something... I'm not... I'm not really good at this. I've never really asked anyone out before." She laughed nervously, hoping they were on the same page right now.
Kasumi's answering smile was almost as nervous as she nodded. "I think... No, I know I'd like that." She blushed a little, slipping her arm around Ana's waist and standing close to her. "I, you're, I don't know. I feel so much better when you're around. Not just with all this stressful stuff, but all the time."
Ana smiled, feeling warmth spread through her chest at Kasumi's encouraging words. "Good. I'm glad to hear that... you make me feel good too, Kas." She leaned in to nuzzle the other girl, giving her a chaste kiss to her jawline. "Let's get back to the dorms then, and we can spend the night watching movies and just hanging out, okay?" Ana brought her communicator up, both arms around her girlfriend - that sounded amazing in her head - and activated the teleportation. Both girls vanished in a blur of purple and black, the streak of light traveling through the sky in a great arc on it's way back toward the Academy grounds.
