Who: Michael Corner and OPEN TO ALL
Where: The Lazy Horse
When: November 23, 7PM
Why: To celebrate Michael's 25th birthday!

Michael had arrived at the bar a little bit before seven, and the bar had looked pretty much the same except for the blue lights that he had paid the management to charm for the occasion, plus the banner in the corner that had hung above his table. He didn't buy out the place for the night, so the usual Lazy Horse stragglers still clung to the edge of the bar. Michael never made a big deal about his birthday; never had he asked for gifts or anything but the company of friends.

So he arranged a time and place and if people showed up than he was happy, if they didn't it was no big deal, because Michael brought fun where ever he went.

"Mikey!"

Megan Jones did not have it in her to ditch Michael Corner's birthday party, even if she had wanted to! She was there will bells on, a big smile on her face and a gift-wrapped package in her hands. She hadn't known what to get him, so she'd settled with a bottle of firewhiskey and one of the nicer dress shirts she could find in town.

"Happy Birthday!" she exclaimed, setting the gifts on the table to tackle him in a hug.

Some co-workers had come minutes before Megan had and greeted Michael before going to purchase their drinks at the bar. Turning as he heard the unmistakable nickname bestowed upon him, his eyes widened as Megan Jones launched herself into his arms.

"Hello, love!" he exclaimed, wrapping his arms around her shoulders (she was a tad shorter) and giving her a friendly kiss on the side of her forehead. Catching sight of the presents she had brought, he added, "And thank you, but I told you no gifts required, ducky! You shouldn't have." he said endearingly.

Megan waved off his comment about the presents. "Oh, please. It's not a big deal. Besides, you know you deserve it." She beamed up at him. "So how does it feel to be the big 2-5?" she asked, giving his arm a little pinch.

Giving her a coy grin as she pinched him, Michael took one of his hands and pat the fingers that had squeezed his arm, "Feels great. In fact, I feel younger." he admitted.

A bit late to the party due to work, Alicia hurried into the Lazy Horse with Devin, a bloke she'd met at McMinnie's, in tow. Shrugging off her jacket, she draped it over her arm and looked around for Michael. Once she'd spotted him, she waved and hurried over to him, dropping off her present on the way.

"Hey, happy birthday!" she grinned, giving him a one-armed hug.

Michael, of course had to do a double-take on both Alicia and the man she had brought. He had only seen her hair in the picture, not in real life. Once he realized who was hugging him, he greeted her back with a kiss to the cheek.

"Hello, ducky! Thanks for coming by," he said with a pleased tone as his eyes flickered to the man standing idly by, whom he would have mistaken for a Weasley with his bright red hair, but whom was much too short to be.

"And who's this?" he asked, pleasantly, reaching out to shake the man's hand.

Reaching out and drawing Devin a little closer to the two of them, Alicia introduced him to Michael. "This is Devin Gallagher. He's my date tonight. Devin, this is Michael Corner." Devin shook Michael's hand and smiled. "Great to meet you, Michael. Oh, and uh, happy birthday."

Realizing this might be a tad awkward for Devin, Alicia broke back in with a, "Well, we won't monopolize all of your time. I'm sure other people are waiting to give you birthday wishes."

Not one to judge terribly, Michael grinned back, "Thanks mate, pleasure to meet you and all!"

Releasing his hand, Michael denied it with a few low-tones no's.

"I'll be getting those all night, sweetheart," he smiled before gesturing to the table, "We already got a few pints of beer, but if not your thing, the bar's not hard to find," he winked, "and definitely supremely enjoy yourselves."

Pleased that Michael and Devin seemed to be getting along okay, even though they'd only spoken a few words and had only met a few seconds ago, Alicia took ahold of Devin's hand and let her gaze follow Michael's gesture to the table.

"Thank you!" she smiled, raising an eyebrow at Devin. "Do you want a beer? I'm going to get myself a piƱa colada."

"Yeah, sure, sounds great," Devin agreed. With one last glance at Michael, he gave a little wave and said, "Well, see you around!"

"Hey, mate, happy birthday!" Terry shouted over the sounds of the party, coming up and clapping Michael on the back. "Looks like a killer party," he added, surveying the crowd. "Should be a night to remember."

Terry was determined to make sure his best friend had a great night, so even though he wasn't the most forceful guy, if anyone put a damper on the party or got out of line, they were out of there.

"Yeah? Let's hope you don't drink loads so that you aren't able to remember," he quipped with a wink and a hearty pat to Terry's right shoulder.

Glad that his best friend finally showed up, Michael drug him to the corner table and gestured grandly to the pints of beer, "Drink up! Let's get this rolling!"

"Nah, I'll let you be the one to drink loads," Terry joked back. "After all, it's your birthday. I'll just be here to make sure you don't do anything you'll regret."

His eyes lighting up at the sight of the beer, Terry filled a glass held it up to Michael. "That's what I'm talking about!" Taking a drink, he let his gaze drift out over the crowd, wondering if there was a possibility that Mandy might show up. He highly doubted it, but a bloke could hope, couldn't he?

"Yeah, I'll surely want to remember some part of tonight," he joked, glancing around the bar which had begun to slowly fill up.

Joining Terry and raising his own glass, he clinked their glasses together, spilling some beer slightly, and patted Terry's back reassuringly, "She's not here yet, cowboy," he teased.

"I... what? I wasn't..." Terry began, then realized it was useless to try to think of a cover-up. "Do you think she'll come?" he asked. He knew Mandy wasn't Michael's biggest fan.

Shaking his head, he continued, "Never mind. C'mon, let's go find some other people to talk to."

Michael grinned widely as Terry caved in. He gave his best friend a shrug, "Honestly? Don't know. Really hard to read that girl.."

He downed another gulp of his beer before slapping Terry on the back once more, "Too right. Can't stand her drinking. We're multi-taskers now. Drinking and socializing, commence!" he gestured grandly outward.

"She said 'we'll see.' Does that mean 'no' in girl language?" he asked Michael, figuring he might have a better idea.

With a nod, Terry headed out toward the crowd hesitantly. He wasn't as good at the whole mixing and mingling thing as Michael was. At least, not until he'd had a couple of drinks.

"Generally, 'we'll see,' means yes in girl language. But with Mandy? It could range from 'no' to 'I hope a rancid plants nibbles you to pieces so I won't have to bother myself'," he said with a shrug and a look around the bar. Not a sight of blonde hair stood out amongst the small crowd, but it was still early and the turn up was still thin.

Taking a swig of his drink, he shrugged at Terry, "So enjoy yourself," he said with a wide grin.

Well, great. That was what Terry wanted to hear. "Fantastic," he deadpanned, taking another sip of his drink. He decided that maybe he'd just sit at the bar, that way he could keep an eye on things, as well as keep a lookout for Mandy, should she decide to show up.

"I will," he promised Michael, returning the smile.

Well, you really couldn't know with a girl like that could you? Who knows though, maybe she'll be surprising. Michael wasn't betting on it. She wasn't his biggest fan. Just cause he hit on her in second year. Sheesh.

"Just preparing you for how it is," Michael answered honestly, his smile stretched thin, "don't wait on her. I'm telling you, go mingle," he shooed.
