Padma still didn't quite know what to think about the whole displacement thing, really. No matter how much she tried to tell herself it didn't matter she couldn't make herself believe it, and she had spent the last few days alternatively being very glad that her sister had finally seen sense and was coming back home and feeling like the worst sort of person for not wanting Parvati to have the happiness she wanted with Malfoy.
She still didn't see why it had to be him or why her sister had been replaced with... this. Clearly there was some sort of higher power and he had a bloody sick sense of humour.
But whether or not this was the Parvati she'd grown up with it was still Parvati, and she probably could have been a murderous sociopath and Padma would still love her. It was just that that couldn't quite stop her from wishing none of it had ever happened and wanting her old life back, and being at a party - no, wait, a masked ball - thrown by Parvati and Malfoy was doing nothing to lessen the wishful thinking.
She held back a sigh as she sipped a drink and attempted to blend into the shadows. Thus far she had hardly seen her sister, had been cornered for a dance by some absolute creep with horrible hair who had then proceeded to try to look down her dress for the entire song, had then had to shake said creep, and had narrowly avoided having a very full champagne flute dumped all over her. She just wanted to go home but couldn't bring herself to leave when Parvati had been having such a hard time.
