Alyssa couldn't believe her father. He had gotten her a complete gift package consisting of assorted drawing materials, feminine bath soaps, and topped it off with telling her that he had invited a bunch of her friends to go on a picnic with her. He had coordinated with a friend and teammate of hers, Kenneth Brocklehurst, and his parents to have a joint celebration. The two of them happened to have the same birthday so Eddie thought it was a good idea for them to save the time of having conflicting parties and just have them together. So apparently, between Kenneth and his parents, they had invited all of the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team, their friends, and a few others. She appreciated the effort and squeezed him into a hug after he shared this information. She told him that they would visit her mother - since she always did on her birthdays. When she was younger, it was sheer will that made Eddie take her to the graveyard on her birthday and let balloons go. But after a few years, Alyssa wanted to go on her own, and it was a ritual for the two of them. She smiled at him as she walked down the stairs. She was wearing a navy blue shirt and black capri pants. She pulled her long, almost black hair into a messy bun and grinned at her father. He shrugged. "You can go right ahead and floo to Kenneth's. Everyone is there. Just have fun and be careful and all that other stuff you know I'm going to say."
She held a gift under her arm. It wasn't for herself, obviously, since it was sort of weird to bring her own present to a party. It was for Kenneth because it was his birthday as well. They always wished each other well as soon as they found this bit of information out about one another. She laughed before hugging her father again. "Thanks again, dad. I'll be good and have fun and all that stuff you know I'm going to agree to. We'll be out in open public. I doubt they'll be much trouble to cause." She smiled brightly at him - something she didn't do very often when around others - and squished her father's cheeks together with her hands. "Love you," she said, letting go of his face and skipping towards the floo place. She grabbed a fistful of powder before disappearing with a green flash. Moments later, she coughed and stepped out of the fireplace, familiar faces greeting her. She smiled at her team captain Lorena Sloper, who had her hand interlaced with her boyfriend Robert Edgecombe's hand, who offered a wave and a 'Happy Birthday, Alyssa.' She smiled and thanked him before passing around to everyone else. Namely Ella and Bailey. The two girls were the closest things she had to friends because they were in her year and both Quidditch involved. Bailey was a reserve keeper but she was sure that the next year, she would be on the team with everyone else.
Mrs. Brocklehurst finally made her way into the room holding just a tin can. "Everyone, it's time to go!" She said, holding the can out for everyone to touch. Alyssa had never traveled through portkey before so she squeezed in next to Bailey and touched the tin can before feeling a pull at the navel that landed them in the middle of Kensington Gardens. It was a beautiful sight to behold. Eddie was already there, standing next to a rather nice set up. The sun was beaming down and there was a tent set up in the middle of the park. There was a rectangular shaped table in the middle, the two end designated for the guests of honor, and each place that was set had plates, utensils, and a small mat to kneel on. "This is pretty awesome," Alyssa said, leaning over to Ella, who laughed. "I can't believe your dad and Ken's mum put this together. This is going to be awesome." The two parents grouped together and let all the kids mingle. Alyssa claimed her end of the table before getting up to go give Kenneth his gift. She smiled and handed it to him. "Happy birthday!" She managed a smile towards him and he chuckled. "Thanks," he said with a smile, before searching his pockets and pulling out a medium sized box, "you too!" She laughed and then he turned to look at his mother. "I think they've been plotting this one," he insisted with a laugh. Alyssa shook her head and rolled her eyes. "I wouldn't be surprised." She would have kept talking to Kenneth, but she heard someone say, "The food is here!" and she turned to look. Sure enough, food was appearing on the table. How that had been arranged to happen, Alyssa wasn't sure, but she wasn't going to sit around when there was food available at her disposal.
On the way back to her end of the table, she had people handing her gifts. Some were housemates, others were yearmates, and there were even a few she didn't know. But it was a party and she was sure that she and Kenneth had different social circles so either way, she was just glad to get gifts. Passing Lorena, she heard the girl whine. "Oh Lor," Alyssa said, turning to look over her shoulder at the girl, "you don't want to kneel on the mats but you'll take a sixty meter dive on the Pitch?" Alyssa offered a wink before Lorena flushed pink and allowed Robert to pull her down in the seat next to him like he had been trying. He mumbled a thanks to Alyssa, who shrugged and continued back to her chair. Finally plopping down in her chair, she reached over and grabbed a sandwich, throwing her gifts down beside her. Ella and Bailey being off to her right, she naturally turned to talk to him. "Ooh," she said excitedly, pointing at a platter of treacle tart, "Pass that Ella?" Once it was in reach, she grabbed it and plopped it in her mouth. Turning to her left, she smiled at Carson who had his elbow rudely propped on the table as he rested his chin on his fist and watched everyone. "Did you invite your whole house?" He asked and she shook her head. "No. Although it seems like it, right?" She chuckled. Being a Gryffindor didn't leave Carson completely alone - she was pretty sure that there were at least three Gryffindors on the other end of the table - friends with Kenneth - but she wasn't completely sure. He had been her partner in a Potions class early in the year and they became friends. She had a huge crush on him but she wouldn't tell him that. She wanted to be his friend and liking him didn't help that situation. "Well would you miss my birthday even if you were the only Gryffindor there? No, the only guy?" Carson laughed and shook his head. "Of course I wouldn't. But it feels nice to have someone to relate to. Gender and house wise of course." He handed her a gift with a smile. She put it on top of the zillions of other ones she had received and grinned. "Thanks."
Everything was moving so quickly. Alyssa had hardly noticed that there was music playing but now that she had stopped eating and had started to wander around the other end of the table to see who was around. After a while of greetings and such, she found her father talking to Kenneth's mother. She wandered over to them and excused herself before getting her dad's attention. "Hey," she said, managing to pull him away from Kenneth's mum, "I think I'm ready to go home now. I got my stuff altogether." He nodded and smiled at her, before turning back to Kenneth's mother and explaining the situation briefly. She smiled and patted Alyssa on the shoulder. "Happy Birthday, darling." She nodded and said, "Thanks Mrs. Brocklehurst. This was really nice." She went to Kenneth's end of the table and tapped him on the shoulder. "See you around, okay Ken?" He looked at her. "You're leaving your own party?" He asked in a hushed voice, knowing she wasn't trying to make an exit. "Yeah. I have some things to do. But hey, it's your party too. Have fun." She offered a last smile before picking up her presents, saying goodbye to Ella, Bailey, and Carson before finding her dad again. Eddie took some of the gifts from her and shrunk them, handing them back to her. "Hold these," he told her, before holding out his arm for Apparition.
Once she grabbed it firmly, he Apparated them back to their home. She noticed a cake sat on the table, most likely hand-baked by Hermione, and she reminded herself that she would have to go check it out later. She poked her father about resizing her gifts and once he did, she skipped up the stairs to her room. Throwing them down on her dresser, she plopped down in her bed and grabbed one of her pillows to hold. A nap before going to visit her mother would be well deserved and well needed. She appreciated the party and hoped that everyone else was having fun. As for her, her birthday couldn't have turned out any better if she tried.
