Ever since showing up to the future, Daphne had felt alone. Sure, she had been with Seamus, whom had done a fairly decent job at keeping her safe and everything of that sort, but she was still at odds. Only recently did the month pass of her husband being dead and she was still trying to adjust for that. She was pregnant and still trying to find the strength inside of her to keep pushing forward. She found herself becoming more and more depressed eacha nd every day, but normally she had Seamus' company to keep her at bay. And for the time being, only a few days ago, they had parted ways. He had entrusted her with a bag of floo powder - which was rather considerate of him. The two had to floo everywhere they went to make sure the baby was kept safe and the fact that he didn't leave her to do this by herself was something that she appreciated. But she was alone now and she was finding out how hard this all really was. It didn't fit together nicely at all. All of the feelings Daphne was having were negative ones. She wanted to go back to 2002, but there was nothing there for her but stress and sorrow. Two more burdens she didn't need. But in the future, she was someplace she didn't know and that scared her.
It didn't take her long to find a way to floo to her home in Scotland. Back in 2002, she had been staying there with Astoria. She wondered if that was still the case. She was barely able to stand all of the memories from staying there but since her sister was there with her, she felt like she would be okay. She found herself stumbling from the floo place, her hands out in front of her. Everything looked so familiar. She dusted the green powder off of her hair and clothes and looked around, a slight frown on her face. It was all so familiar, so comforting, and yet, she was still lonely. She looked at all of the pictures on the mantle, a saddened look on her features as she saw pictures of herself and Ernie littered about. There were some of their respective family members. These pictures were ones that Daphne remembered completely. Before she could finish looking through them all, the door open and footsteps sounded quickly. Whipping around, Daphne found herself looking at a younger boy, who didn't seem alarmed by her presence.
In fact, he hugged her.
Daphne found herself hugging him back, not sure why. Perhaps it was because he looked so much like Ernie that it scared her. Or perhaps she just couldn't shake the feeling. She looked down at the boy who looked back up at her. She locked eyes with him, seeming to think to herself about who she was locking eyes with. It couldn't come to her. He let go of her and pulled her over to the couch, sitting her down. "I'm sorry I was away," he started in a soft, comfortable voice, "I went to go see Riley but his mother said he was in trouble. So I hung out with Alex for a bit but I thought I would come back and check on you." She smiled at him. Why Daphne did this was beyond her. She just found herself smiling at him. She raised a tenative hand to his face, resting it on his cheek. He smiled back at her and put his hand over hers. "Brendan," she said quietly, as if somehow this had been knowledge given to her just them. She watched him for a reaction. He chuckled a little and mimicked her, "Mum." She dropped her hand and he shifted over to sit next to her, wrapping his arm around her waist. Daphne put her arm over his shoulders and felt a small sensation of warmth overcome her. Her hand idly rubbed her stomach. This, she thought in reference to her stomach, is him. She looked over at the boy. He looked so much like Ernie that it frightened her. He was beautiful. Daphne was suddenly overcome with the fear that she would somehow muck this all up. She felt tears welling in her eyes and leaned her head against his head carefully. He squeezed her carefully, not seeming to be attentive enough to notice she was larger than usual.
"Everything's going to be okay, Mum," he told her with a smile, before getting up and pulling her gently to her feet. "I promise," he added with a charming smile. Daphne couldn't help but laugh at her son's words, tears still in her eyes. She really was afraid that something would happen to her and she would lose this wonderful little boy. She wouldn't be able to cope with the stress and do something stupid. But Merlin, seeing him here talking to her and encouraging her to cheer up was enough for her. She grabbed him into a hug and squeezed him gently. If she had this to look forward to in the future...if even despite all of the loss this was what was waiting for her, she could cope. She could learn to get over some of it. But she could tell Brendan was used to this sort of behavior from her, even at the age of eleven. She wondered how often this came about and whether he had thoughts about his father as well. She patted his hair down gently, her hand brushing it down softly. She cradled him like a child and didn't quite want to let him go. But she did, before holding him at arm's length away from her and looking him over. "I'm lucky to have you," she said with a grin. He returned the grin to her with a smile. "No," he insisted, "I'm lucky to have you, Mum. You're too good to me." He sat back down and Daphne sat back down as well, the two of them leaning against one another with a smile.
