Simon sat down after nearly being knocked over by Jericho's slap, wondering if his balance really was being screwed over because of the shots he'd been pouring down his throat. Interesting. He merely watched as the bald guy left, running his hand along his chin as if he were making sure that hair wasn't sprouting where he'd just shaved already, and turned his attention back to the girls when Mary sighed.
"Maybe being an asshole is way of being friendly. Looks more...manly that way or something." Simon sort of got it, though he didn't want to admit he put on a tough front a hell of a lot of the time too. His hand moved, but instead of the alcohol he went for his forgotten bottle of Nuka Cola. When Mary spoke again, Simon offered her a slight smile, shaking his head. "If you're gonna get a chance anywhere, it'll be out here probably. It's not your fault they only gave you four walls to work with up til now. We'll find something for you. Heck, maybe you'll find something you like on your own. You should go with us to that...shop or whatever it is tomorrow. Can't be a bad place to start. Maybe something will catch your eye."
He realized he was chattering a bit and brought the bottle up to take a drink to compensate, until he saw the key on the table, tilting his head a bit. "What's that for?"
Arlington was listening, like she always was. She waved goodbye to Jericho like she had waved goodbye to Ceara. Her gaze then moved to Mary and she bit down on her lower lip. She wanted to tell her that it was okay, that she was used to people only barely tolerating her too.. but she couldn't. She didn't have the ability, even after Simon had been trying to teach her to write. Speaking of write, she turned over her drawing and then drew her name symbols on the back. Teeny tiny ones. A stick girl, a radscorpion, a lion, an igloo, a nose, a gun, a tent, an orange and another nose. He'd tried to teach her to write, she had come up with heiroglyphics.
Mary got a smile again and when Simon asked about the key she held it up and pointed at the room upstairs, then held up the other key and pointed at the room beside it. Then she made her 'sleep' sign again.
Mary was still staring at the pictures when Arlington held up the keys, brow furrowing deep as she attempted to decipher it. She knew what each of these things were, but what was the context? There was obviously some sort of corellation she was missing, the drawing of a nose twice a sort of hint at that, but she shook her head apologetically at her. Simon had said the redhead's name a few times, so she knew what it was, and it was him she was nodding at when he offered some words of encouragement. He was obviously a good-hearted sort of person. She was fairly certain those were rare in their vault, and she felt lucky for having run into them.
Then it clicked into place, "Oh, this is your name!" she said, taking a crayon and writing the letters above the symbols, arching an eyebrow, "I see now."
Arlington had peculiarity about her that almost made her want to smile. Almost. Her attention finally turned to the keys. She had watched Ceara buy them rooms, but she wasn't entirely certain she was invited or what the sleeping arrangements were. She'd leave that up to the two of them.
"Oh, well that was surprisingly nice of them." Simon's mind was already trying to translate how they were going to divide up the rooms, and admittedly he wasn't looking forward to sleeping by himself. Not only because he'd gotten used to being around someone else, but he wasn't entirely sure he trusted the people in Megaton. That, and who was going to play with his Pipboy now?
At Mary's exclamation, he quickly turned to the girls, peering at what Arlington had jotted down and grinned openly. "Okay, now do my name. Or Mary's. Do you need me to tell you the letters?" The letters themselves probably didn't mean all that much, but she could at least learn how many there were, so how many pictures she needed to draw to get it done.
