Cora was a coward. And not only was she a coward, but she was a coward who was avoiding the one person in the world that she had, who she could count on and trust. She wasn't proud of what she'd said to Derek, of what had come out. That was beyond anything that she'd ever meant to say to him. There was a reason that Cora guarded what she said to a degree.....there were some things that were obviously better left unsaid. So, this whole truth thing was bullshit. And it was pissing the young werewolf off, majorly. She couldn't stand to just sit around in the cabin, not knowing that she was practically itching to talk, to tell the truth. The answer, the only one, was to avoid her brother....and Malia, in turn. Her cousin didn't understand the way of the world yet, didn't understand the way that a person was supposed to behave and it was honestly frustrating, especially now when she was drawing attention to herself. Cora just wanted to fly under the radar. She didn't want to draw attention, she wanted to survive and get out of here. She didn't know that she was going to get anything she wanted. And despite the tough exterior, she was still scared. The bluster of trying to get out, of bossing Newt around when they'd first arrived, and of being herself was fading some...mostly because she couldn't control what she was saying at the moment. And that was a whole new level of terrifying for her. Cora wasn't sure why she'd fond her way to the library, but here she was. Backpack over her shoulder, combing through dusty, moldy books. Her natural instinct hadn't been to read, of course. But she'd already ran. She'd already done what she could do to physically punish and wear herself out. Maybe if she kept her mind busy she could keep from spouting off the truth everywhere, like some people were feeling the compulsion to do. She doubted it. The only difference she'd noticed so far was that her compulsion wasn't pro-active, and she couldn't be more thankful for that. It was only a matter of time before she ran into someone...and said something, though. |
