Bellamy wrapped his arms around his knees, hugging them to his chest defensively while he eyed the man sitting next to him. He'd been tempted to run away, to find Octavia on his own and stash her someplace safe so that no one would find her until Mom could come and get them. If they DID find her, he and Mom would get into so much trouble. Octavia wasn't supposed to exist and it was Bellamy's job to keep her quiet and safe and alive. And they'd float Mom if they found out.
And now Octavia was lost on the ground where anything could happen!
"I have to find my.. the thing I lost," Bellamy said, hopping to his feet. "Mom said I had to keep it and it was my responsibility. I can't sit here and wait," he insisted.
Carlos for his part kept cool and regarded the boy with a neutral expression, "Yeah, I believe you," he started, "I believe it's really important too. But it isn't safe for you to run around on your own. Clarke's gonna come and help you out, okay?"
Bellamy shook his head vigorously, "She can't. I don't know a Clarke. Mom said it's my--"
"Hey," Carlos interrupted, offering the kid a slice of orange he'd been peeling. "It's cool, okay? It's okay to be afraid, little man. And it's okay that you don't run off and get lost. What if no one can find you again? How are you gonna take care of anything if you aren't safe yourself?"
He assumed the boy was looking for Octavia, given Octavia-Clarke's information. Just sucked for him that he'd never find her. Not unless Octavia told him who she really was.
"Come on, little man, sit down and chill out for a minute. Clarke said you lived in a space station."
Bellamy watched Carlos for a moment, reflexively taking the orange but not eating it. It was grounder stuff and who knew what was in the ground besides Nuclear waste? Bellamy plopped back down on the steps, "Yeah, it's the Ark. Is this earth? Earth isn't supposed to have people on it."
Carlos smiled faintly. "It's like a circus version of earth, yeah."
Bellamy opened his mouth to ask about circuses when he caught sight of a woman coming their way. She looked.. well she looked vaguely dangerous. But she also looked like.. wait.. "Mom!" Bellamy launched himself up from the church steps, pelted down the road and threw himself at her, wrapping his arms around her snugly. Only.. when he looked up, it wasn't into the face of his mother at all.
It was someone who looked vaguely like her.
He jumped back, cheeks flaming and eyes wide.
"You aren't Mom." He backed up several more steps.
