What: Monitors placed around town. Please enjoy the entertainment presented to you, courtesy of TBTB
Where: The Theatre
When: Day 17 7:00am - close of day seventeen
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

A monitor appears outside the theatre.

Remy LeBeau and L. Lawliet are shown being cut apart by an unseen scalpel. This monitor is equipped with sound and their screams are quite audiable across town. The Speakers cannot be disabled or muffled.

All monitors are black and white and are familiar to those characters who took part in "panic room." All are labelled "our dear departed." Monitors will go black at precisely 4:24 PM where all characters on screen will die for everyone to see.

Jenny wandered out the door of her room. She still hadn't slept and the whole experience with Remy had been enlightening. She felt upbeat, pleased with herself. She wanted to find L and talk to him. She knew she probably should have tried to contact him in the journals first -- be sure he wasn't with Laura or something -- but she wanted to see him in person. She had some things she needed to discuss.

With her poetry book in hand, Jenny slid out the emergency exit at the end of the hall with the dressing rooms in it. She'd finally figured out how to unlock the damned thing and since there was no power no siren squawked its threat for imminent police response. Not that it would have gotten any attention here anyway.

Her nose was in the book, pen and smudged fingers working again as she walked. She hardly registered the screaming because it sounded canned. Just one more stupid plan to unnerve them. She didn't bat an eyelid over it until she was on top of the monitors and then she looked up to see what the rukus was. What she saw made her drop her book. Shortly after, Jenny's knees gave way and she fell to them, staring horrified and wide-eyed up at the monitors.

These days, Edward slept in the theater, since there seemed to be space and the old drapings and arching ceiling reminded him reminiscently of home. Without an earthquake, he rather liked it, and the other people living there were so nice.

People were acting strangely today. Kim was often there for him, but she wasn't this morning... and people were saying that others were missing over the journals. That would worry anyone, wouldn't it? As he made his way outside the theater, he noticed Jenny staring at a monitor and approached her. At first, he was happy to see her, and the monitor. There was TV, now! How wonderful... until he saw the expression on the girl's face. His eyes traveled toward the grisly sight on the screen, and his soft eyes widened in horror.

"Oh no! Oh no... that is Gambit! What is happening? Are they OK...? No, no they're NOT OK... someone has to do something, someone has to!"

Jenny felt the tears try to well up in her eyes and forced herself to swallow a few times, blinking so that none of them fell. She wiped at her eyes with her fingertips and sniffed. She couldn't take her eyes away from the horror on the monitors. It was like nothing she'd ever witnessed before in her life and she wanted to vomit but she couldn't look away. What they were doing to the two men was beyond sick. It was pure evil.

When she heard Edward's voice, she wrenched her eyes away from the monitors and looked up at him. Her brows furrowed with concern and she said, "Oh, Edward. Don't look. Don't watch that. It's horrible."

Quickly she stood up and crossed the space between them, careful to stop short of his scissored hands. To her he had always seemed like such a pure soul, childlike and gentle. She couldn't bear to think of him watching the atrocities that were on display. And with him to think of, she could forget, however momentarily, that her heart was being ripped out on the screens behind her. "What can we do?" she asked more to herself than to him.

Startled and confused, Edward couldn't tear his eyes away from the screen. Our Dear Departed... that sounded terrible! Edward's mouth opened in horror as one of Gambit's fingers was sliced off in segments, and L's eye was cut out of his head piece by piece. It would take them a very long time to get better, Edward realized. They would be in a lot of pain for weeks and weeks... he turned toward Jenny, watching her wipe at her tears. Edward was crying, too, but to wipe at his face would be to do something horribly similar to what was happening on the screen to himself. He nodded, turning away and sitting on the curb, folding his arms across his knees.

"Jenny? They are going to die? Gambit, and...?"

"L," Jenny finished for him, her voice so quiet that it was nearly inaudible above the screams issuing from the monitors.

Looking up at Edward she saw tears trailing his cheeks and lightly she brushed them away for him, knowing it would be impossible for him to do it himself. Everything was so wrong. Someone as sensitive and sweet as Edward should not be in this place. Should not have to see these things.

She just wanted to run away, cover her ears and wait until it was all over. Until she was either alive because L was still alive or dead because he had perished in the experiment. She couldn't watch him being flayed alive anymore. Couldn't listen to it because it was like her soul was receiving the same cuts.

"I think they are. Going to die. Yes, Edward. You should come away, sweetie," she answered and tried to tug at his arm gently in any direction away from the monitors and their horrific display of torture.

"L?" Edward asked, sniffling, looking truly miserable. "L is your friend? Ohhh... oh no.... I'm sorry..." his shoulders curled forward, his scissors looking even heavier. He felt terrible that Gambit was dying, that the person L was dying, even though he didn't know them. Poor Edward didn't know, yet, that there were other monitors with other people.

"I need to find Kim... she loves me, she will want to know that I am OK..." Edward said, hurrying away from the monitors. "Maybe... maybe they will be OK. Maybe someone will save them... maybe, Jenny?" he glanced back at the monitors, at the blood and cuts and pain, and burst into tears.

"Yes, L is my friend," Jenny whispered without bothering to elaborate on it. There was no real label for what L was to her but friend was enough for the moment. Friend was important. L's words about love being about watching someone die suddenly rang in her mind. She knew for certain what Edward didn't. L and Gambit were going to die.

Suddenly she knew she had to watch. As despicable and disgusting as it was, as heartbreaking as it all was, she had to watch. Because she loved them. Albeit she loved them in two separate ways but she loved them nonetheless and she wouldn't be moved now.

As Edward hurried away, she watched him go, her heart aching for him and hoping that he would not see Kim on one of the monitors. She couldn't bear to think of that sweet, simple man losing someone the way she was losing two someones. "I hope you're right, Edward. I hope someone will save them," she said quietly and looked away as he began to cry, knowing she would cry too if she kept looking at him with the sound of screams and terror all around her.

After reading the very abrupt person's description of what was happening to her only link to home, and where she could find the screen, Illyana raced to the theater as fast as she could. She had considered teleporting, but didn't want to broadcast to the whole place she could do that, and she didn't know how crowded it would be over there. She heard the screaming as she approached, and felt her stomach twist.

"Oh, God," she said, coming to a stop just in front of the television monitors. The person had said Gambit and an Asian boy, so she assumed the man with the longer hair had to be Gambit. It was worse than the simple statements had led her to imagine. She stared in horrified fascination at the monitors, jaw agape. She clenched her fists as she stared, partly in rage at the idea of someone being sadistic enough to try this on relatively innocent people, but partially to stave off the little part in her corrupted soul that began to enjoy the show. As the Darkchylde, she'd revel in something like this. But Illyana Rasputin didn't want to revel. She wanted the man who knew her brother to stay alive.

Maybe she'd panicked a little, considering the fact that she'd suddenly found herself alone in the back of Andy's van when she'd realized that the sound that was filling the void left by shutting off the Doors on the van radio was faint screaming. She'd written Andy immediately, but when she didn't get an instant response she did the first thing that came to mind, which was getting behind the wheel and driving to look for him.

Except she'd gotten turned around and instead of moving towards the gas station where he'd been headed she found herself in the middle of town, the screaming getting louder as she made her way down the main street. She scanned the road, ready to run down anything that was coming at her, when she caught sight of the monitor ouside of the Theatre and a blonde girl watching it.

Haunted by the fact that the male screaming might be Andy in trouble, she pulled over, grabbing the keys with shaking hands and moved towards the girl and the monitor she was staring at. The reason for the screaming became crystal clear as she approached and Elliot put a hand over her mouth. "Oh my God," she breathed, stepping up beside the girl.

"It won't last long." Came the Northern accented voice of the older(looking) Doctor as he walked up on the commotion in front of the Theater, bright blue eyes falling to focus there on the monitor, where the Cajun boy and another young man, were being sliced to pieces. They would bleed out, they would die after a certain amount of time. The screaming would stop. Mercifully, the screaming would stop.

He came to a stop near the back of the group, glancing first at the dark-haired girl, then the two blonde women, and finally the man with-- were those scissors? Oh, that was.. strange, and somehow oddly interesting. Edward received a smile from the Doctor and he finally looked back at those monitors once again. He'd heard the screaming from his place at the museum, and he'd told Rose to stay put (like that would work).

"Does anyone have any idea where those rooms might be located?" After a pause, he was speaking up again. "Guess not. You'd likely be there now if you knew, right?" Of course. What a silly question. "Does anyone know who they are?" He had seen two other monitors around the place, but he'd stopped here, because he'd recognized one of those faces. If he'd kept going, he would have seen Sarah Jane on one of those monitors, but he'd stopped here. For now. He'd find her later. And if he was lucky, he'd be alone when he found her. Because this Time Lord would not be pleased. And if the people in this box were afraid of Ten and his rage? They'd be terrified of his previous regeneration and his rage. He made Ten look like a kitten, at times.

Hearing the new voices around her, Illyana turned, seeing the blonde woman first, and seeing the van behind her. "That's Andy's van," she said, glancing between the woman and the car again, Gambit momentarily forgotten. "How'd you get Andy's van? Is he with you?" She craned her neck, looking for her new friend.

She glanced behind the blonde woman and recognized the man from yesterday evening as well, the one who'd told her to find a place with people to settle in. He was far more serious today than he'd been the day before and, as another scream pierced the air, Illyana realized she wasn't surprised at that. "That's Gambit, I think," she said, turning and pointing the screamer. "He was supposed to meet me this morning. Says he knew my brother." Not exactly relevant, but it was the one thing she knew about the Cajun.

Fact-checking done, she turned back to the blonde woman. "Where's Andy?" she asked again. Oh god, if he was in a room like Gambit....

Bones had been standing there a while as he watched the people follow the sound of screaming and come upon the monitor. The man in a blue uniform top was fairly easy to ignore, wasn't he, as he looked at his boots and the monitor intermittently. He heard the questions people were asking and the things they were saying and nothing caught his attention in the way the man had said 'It won't last long,' and it made him shudder.

Bones wished he was right, because in his experience this would go on for hours. It would go on until those in charge decided to kill the pair lying on the table. He recognized that Asian man as the same one who'd been digging beside the glass and he wondered if this was punishment for that. How could anyone do this?

He pushed his eyes away from the monitor, bile rising in his throat. He was looking over the people who were alive. There was a collection of women a man with the oddest hands the expert on interspecies comparative anatomy had ever seen and now this tall man, too who was talking like he was somehow outside of it all.

Leonard gagged, ducking around a corner, he had to vomit.

The Doctor turned to watch as the blue-uniformed man turned to run off and vomit. Well, at least he'd left the area. Those cold blue eyes were turning back onto the monitor's then to focus on the two people there. "Gambit." He acknowledged one of the blonde women, as they spoke a name. "And does anyone know who the young Asian man is?" Not that it would really matter in the end, perhaps. Perhaps this was all just a rouse, just something to get them all up in arms.

Perhaps not.

But the Doctor wasn't about to leave that possibility unturned. "Is there any chance this is a trick? Some falsely recorded bit of film being shown here just to upset us? To illicit some sort of reaction?" Because that was exactly what it was getting, and if that was what the people in power wanted to happen, they were surely having a field day right now. Though, as the two women started talking about the van that had driven up (a van! How novel!) and someone named Andy, he glanced aside at them. But soon, he was looking past, to the man with the (were those scissors?) for hands, and the woman intent on the television, beside him.

"Do you know them?" He spoke up to the dark-haired girl then. She seemed awful interested.

The screams were growing quieter, that's how you knew the end was near. Even Gambit could curse no more. The pair of them, glassy eyed were staring at the ceiling, their muscles so tight from pain and fear that you could seem them quake. There were long, deep cuts that ran all over them - torsos, extremities, faces, hands; nothing was exempt from that unseen scalpel.

The blood of the pair of them was pooling on those tables, lapping at the edges. So much blood. Remy LeBeau was the first to go. His body shook and shook and shook until it stopped. No rise of his chest. No blink of those odd eyes. Nothing. Short to follow was L, who'd gone much more quietly, as if he'd resigned himself to his fate. Graceful even in death, dear detective.

We'll let them linger a while. Let you enjoy our handiwork. Make sure they're quite dead and we assure you that they are. With a zap the silent monitor shut off. No more screams.
