Entry tags:!complete, day 16, location: the gym, remus lupin, selene

Who: Selene and Remus.
What: A hunter on the trail.
Where: Near the gym.
When: Day 16; 4:00pm-ish.
Rating: PG-13 for possible violence and cursing. (Come on, it's a vampire and a werewolf. What could possibly go wrong?)
Status: Complete.

The day had been fairly uneventful so far for Selene, other than the fact it was her second day walking under the sun in over 600 years. She kept to the shadows for the most part though, more out of a desire to not be noticed than because of heat. It was a good thing vampires didn't sweat, or she might have died from heatstroke, walking around in all that black leather and vinyl.

She was on her way back into town when a scent caught her attention so sharply she nearly halted her steps. Blood. Fresh blood. Even if she hadn't been repeatedly tempted over the last 24 hours it would have caught her attention. But there was something slightly off about it. Something not human. It was that that made her cautious, shifting instantly into a hunter mentality. Using the buildings as cover she moved as swiftly as she dared, keeping a constant vigil for anyone else who might be out. Two people came into her view and as she followed the scent it soon became clear that it belonged to one of them. She came within hearing distance but didn't really pay attention, more interested in simply tracking. Or she was, until the wind brought her a stronger whiff that held something all too familiar. Her eyes went wide and she stopped in her tracks, back flat against a brick wall. One of them was a lycan. That changed everything.

From then on she followed at a safe distance, not wanting to be noticed, her eyes rarely moving from the two. When they entered the gym she hung back, hiding herself in the shadows of the liquor store across the street. The building was an unknown to her and she couldn't tell how many people were inside, otherwise she would have followed in after. An unknown amount of time passed, the vampire staying alert and keeping herself out of sight. When the boy finally reemerged she couldn't help but bristle despite how harmless he appeared. She had never dealt with one so young, at least to her knowledge; a lycan in their other form was nearly impossible to give an age to. For the moment she simply watched, trying to decide if anyone would see should she confront him, and if it really mattered if they did.

Remus had been dropped off at the hospital.. which was really a gym. And he'd been looked at by one of the doctors there.. a lovely young woman who had also been very nice to him. This town seemed to be full of nice people, eager to help him.. but then again, it wasn't because of who or what he was. It was simply because he seemed to be one of the youngest in this place, and he was clearly injured. And if they were all prisoners here, then it was no wonder they had wanted to help someone else. They couldn't help themselves. If they could have, he was sure they wouldn't be doting on him. And as long as he kept thinking about them like that, he wouldn't get attached. Because once they found out what he was...

It didn't matter. The full moon was twenty-six days away. He was going to be fine. They'd be free, by then. Because he assumed he woke up the same day he'd been taken from. And he assumed he was on Earth, where there was just one moon. God Forbid he be on a planet with two, or even three moons. That would be.. awful. And impossible. So it didn't even cross his mind. Yet.

After leaving the clinic, he'd begun slowly walking again, until he'd taken himself away from the makeshift hospital and around the bend, to the carnival, where he'd stood and stared a moment, before he came forward and pushed open the rusty gate with a bandaged hand. It wasn't stained with blood anymore.. but it wouldn't take long. His movement would assure that scabs would keep breaking. "A carnival?" He asked softly. It was so old.. so antique. So rusted. Tetanus waiting to happen.

The vampire's choice was made for her when he started walking and she followed at a suitable distance, hoping he would wander to a nicely secluded spot. No witnesses meant less need for caution. She wondered if he was one of the ones who had been trapped in this place for awhile or if he was new, like her. Selene frowned slightly at the thought. They were nothing alike. Lycans were animals, beasts. Michael isn't. And Lucian was quite calculating. Remember, it was Viktor that encouraged you to hate the lycans. Despise them, even. She paused a moment to shake her head hard, blaming her internal conflict on a need for blood and the overall chaos of the last however many days, particularly the last day. Sworn enemy or not, she needed to find out what this furball was up to for her own safety.

When they ended up at the carnival she almost wanted to laugh. The place where she'd woken up, and a place almost guaranteed to be deserted. Or at least if anyone else was around she'd notice them easily and be able to adjust.

A glance over her shoulder told her they were far enough from town no one was likely to hear anything. Her hand itched for one of her trusty guns, knowing that would eliminate the need for questions at all if she wished it. But alas, she would have to make due. Her eyes were bright as she strode towards him, tired of hiding, and she just barely refrained from grabbing the back of his shirt to spin him around to face her. Part of her wanted to see what he would do... and part of her knew if she grabbed him she was likely to hit before attempting to ask questions.

"Surely they have those where you come from." she replied to his soft comment. Her canines weren't extended yet, so she was able to hide their unnaturally sharp points for now. "You look like you've been in a hell of a fight."

He lifted his head and spun around when she suddenly spoke up from behind him, looking quite startled, but he only pressed a bandaged hand to his chest. That had been creepy, lady. But Remus was a trusting sort by nature (it'd be his downfall, one of these days), and he smiled just a little and lowered that hand, so he could curl his fingers around the book he'd been holding in his other, transferring it to the injured hand. "No, miss." But he wouldn't offer another explanation. He didn't want to lie to these people.. so it was better to simply keep his silence, in some cases.

"Well, yes-- but no. Yes, we have carnivals.. no, I haven't been in a fight." He took a step back to put more distance between them, she was a little too close for comfort, for the young werewolf. "Are you being held captive here, as well?" He was starting to think everyone in this town was.

But Selene might be surprised, to find that this young Lycan had no idea what she was. He couldn't identify her by sight, clearly couldn't smell it on her (or else he wouldn't be so polite and smiling), and obviously wasn't too intimidated by her presence. He was a very bad werewolf. How had he managed to survive this long? And really, he was just a boy. Had she even ever seen a Lycan this young before? What animal would bite someone so young?

She had to bite back a smirk when he stepped back from her, and didn't move any closer, for the moment. He acted like a scared pup, almost, and it threw her off. Or it would, if she really stopped to think about it. But where she came from werewolves were dangerous and as bent on bringing down her kind as they were on destroying them. Whether it was true or not didn't really matter when it had been driven into her for over half a millennium. Those kinds of habits and thoughts would take more than a few days to break. Especially now that she was on her own.

Her eyes went to his injured hand. "If not in a fight, how else could you have gotten so hurt?" Looking at his face, her gaze was more scrutinizing than curious. At his question she frowned slightly. He was definitely new. For some reason that was a slight relief to her. "Yes." She could have said more but she wasn't interested in trading information. Especially if he was as new and unfamiliar with the place as she was.

Normally he could answer that question with 'a spell gone wrong', but he wasn't sure if these people were wizards or not, they could very well all be muggles, so it was best to keep it quiet, for now. "I tripped." He answered slowly, in stead. That had been a pretty big trip, because there'd certainly been a thick smell of blood.. which meant he had plenty of wounds, not just the small one on his hand and his cheek.

But when she announced she was being held captive here as well, Remus nodded slowly, then presented his uninjured hand out to her, to shake. If she was a captive here also, then there wasn't any need to be concerned with her.. even though she was a little creepy, and something deep inside him told him to turn tail and run while he still could. But the werewolf often pushed that instinct down, refusing to take the advice of the monster inside him. "I'm Remus Lupin." He introduced quietly.

His answer made her brows raise, not at all appearing convinced. It did make her fairly certain he had no idea what she was; she figured if he did he would have tried to come up with a better lie. "Is that so?" She pursed her lips slightly as she surveyed him, wondering what wounds there were that she couldn't see, because she could certainly smell them. If it were merely his hand and a little scratch on his face she might have smarted off that he caught a thorn in his paw.

"That's a unique name." Could he have a more wolfish name? Surely he can't have been born with that... unless he comes from a family of werewolves. She eyed his outstretched hand longer than was polite before deciding to shake. He was a child, she wasn't too worried with him catching her off guard. Her grip was firm, testing his, as her eyes returned to watching his face. "I didn't think your kind was the type to be civilized." she remarked after letting go, refraining from wiping her hand on her jacket. The vampire wasn't always the most subtle, and she had no qualms about calling out a lycan. Even if he seemed different to her from those she was used to, excluding that he was a child.

"Yes, miss." He answered slowly, about having tripped. He really didn't want to go into it anymore, he hated lying, and he was complete and total rubbish at it. So he was a little concerned he wouldn't be believed. Most people didn't ask how he got hurt, once he made it obvious he didn't want to talk about it.

"It's Roman." Remus, of course, was indeed Roman. It was an original Roman name.. just as Roman as Romulus, which Rome had, of course, been named after. But he was explaining, of course, why it was so unique. But then she was prompting him about his kind and he shook his head some, clearly not understanding her at first. He hadn't panicked off the bat.. because there was no way she could have known. None. People couldn't just pick out werewolves like that. It was impossible.. and he'd never encountered a vampire before. Though he'd read about them (extensively), it never dawned on him that she could be one.

"Indeed it is." Her eyes swept up and down him again, trying to determine if he was going to spook. It certainly wouldn't be a problem if he did but she liked to try and anticipate an adversary's moves. Made things a touch easier for her.

When no other comment came she took a step or so closer, not concerned about possibly invading his space. "I highly doubt those wounds of yours came from a little trip down the stairs or over a rock. That would be healed by now, or so I would hope. No, I'm betting either a fight with another like you or..." She paused as she narrowed her eyes, trying to gauge exactly how old he might be. "Or a bad shift. Perhaps your first one. You look young enough for that." A brow arched expectantly as she stared down at him. "Tell me, am I getting close to the truth or do you think you can spin another uncreative lie?"

When she came closer, he took another step away, holding that book up some, as if it were a barrier between the two of them. She was unsettling him, and little did he know, but it was about to get a whole lot worse.

Because when she said the word 'shift' he let out a little breath. She knew. And the surprise was plainly on his face. Then he looked a little worried and turned away, so he was standing as a profile to her, uncomfortably. "Every shift is a bad shift. And I don't fight with others. I've never even met another." Except for the one that had bit him, years and years and years ago. "And this wasn't my first. It was number one hundred and forty-eight." So if he transformed once a month (which used to be the way, but was it anymore?) that would have made him a twelve-year veteran of turning into a werewolf. No, he wasn't new to this.

"I would appreciate it if you wouldn't tell the others." He curled his fingers tighter around his book, before slowly turning his head and looking at her. "Are you one, too?" That had just dawned on him now.. perhaps she new, because she was just like him.

His reactions were becoming curious to her, and that curiosity was dampening her instincts to shift immediately to violence. She had seen lycans that were afraid but she couldn't say she had ever seen any act quite like he was. Perhaps it was because he was so young.

She cocked her head slightly and arched a brow when he said he never met another; that ruled out being born as he was. Which brought a ghastly thought to her mind. What kind of a feral creature turned a child? That sort of thing was completely unheard of with her race, and she hadn't really heard of such things happening with lycans. Save perhaps in the old days, when the blood was so pure and powerful people didn't die, but shifted into beasts within not even an hour. The thought brought back memories of the lycans she had last killed, being surrounded by them, and she shivered. "How old are you?" she finally had to ask. The vampire could do the math, and the thought of a beast turning so small a child turned her stomach.

At his question she laughed shortly before she could stop herself. Her, a werewolf? She couldn't even imagine. But then, at this stage she couldn't imagine being anything but what she was. "No, and I'm pretty sure you're the only one here, so far as I've been able to tell." A pause and an absent swipe of her tongue over her teeth. "You could say I'm the other side of the coin." And Remus might have been able to see a hint of fang as she spoke. "I take it you've never met any vampires either."

"I turned sixteen a month ago." He admitted quietly, still keeping his eyes locked onto her. There definitely was something unsettling about this woman.. and as soon as she mentioned the word 'vampire', he knew immediately. "No. I haven't. Well.. I suppose I have, now." He took a moment to look her over, before nodding slowly. The pieces fit together now, her looks, the way she was acting, how she'd known what he was.. but he wasn't surprised that she was standing in the sun, and nor was he showing any fear. This Lycan wasn't scared of vampires.. and he wasn't attacking her, or running from her. He just stood there.

What now, Selene? Great lycan hunter?

"Did you follow me out here, to tell me that you knew about me?" Because he obviously couldn't imagine any other reason that she'd come out here after him, into the carnival like this.

At the admission of his age she cursed softly in Hungarian, shaking her head. "Sixteen." Which meant he was likely turned at some ungodly young age. Fucking hell. There was something deeply wrong about that. She ran a hand through her hair; this whole interaction was throwing her for a loop and she didn't like it. Not one bit. It was like the mess with Michael, trying to figure out the pieces to a puzzle she had never seen.

"I followed the blood. Where I come from..." I kill creatures like you. That seemed far too harsh a statement to tell this boy. "... your kind and mine don't get along."

But Remus was young, not stupid. He'd always been particularly bright, and he was breathing in deeply when she repeated his age, like she didn't understand, like she didn't want to hear what he was saying. Then she said she followed the blood.. like it was a trail. Like she was a hunter. Then she'd paused. Where she came from... but she didn't finish it. She picked another ending, instead, and the young werewolf lowered his eyes to the book in his hand.

"Where you come from," He corrected softly. "You hunt people like me." People like him. Not creatures. Not animals. People. Because he was still a person.. sometimes.

Why did it have to be a child? Because he most certainly was a child by her sense of time, would have been even if he were eighteen. She was practically ancient after all. Why couldn't it have been her normal brand of lycan, or some deeply feral creature she didn't have to think twice about killing? After everything with Michael and having to concede that perhaps lycans weren't entirely bad this was pushing her limits for tolerance. There was only so much she could be expected to adjust to, and that wasn't even touching on this bizarre place she'd been taken to.

"Yes." she agreed quietly, almost feeling bad saying it. "Werewolves where I'm from behave quite differently from you, as well. Most would have tried to kill me by now." Part of her still wanted to do just that, but it was smaller than when she first realized she had a lycan to contend with. Lycan or not, she didn't know if she had it in her to harm one so young. He reminded her of her nieces a little, of the tragedy that had haunted her for so long. It wasn't helping.

Once she had announced that she did indeed hunt werewolves, and that they behaved quite differently here, Remus nodded once in understanding. "We have some like that where I'm from." They had some that liked to bite little children, young as they could get them. Remus had been one of the youngest cases ever recorded.. but not the youngest, thankfully. There were a few others ahead of him.

But after having said this, the boy was turning to face her fully and lifting his chin some, as if to prove he wasn't afraid of her, before he spoke up. "Are you going to kill me?" Not that he was planning to stand here and let her.. but at least he wanted to know if she planned to do it, so.. you know.. he could start running. He was a monster, and he was dangerous.. but he didn't want to die for it.

That was the all-important question, wasn't it? Was she going to go through with what she intended the moment she picked up on that familiar scent. It would be self-preservation, and in more ways than one. She had no idea what kind of control he had or what kind of wolf he was, as some were quite feral and instinctual when shifted whereas others seemed to keep some sense about them. She had no idea if, once he shifted, he might attack one of the others here, and if that happened how quickly they might turn. 'Soon you'll be drowning in lycans.' Corvinus' words echoed in her head, and one hand twitched slightly as it might if tightening the grip on a gun. For all she knew that was a very real possibility, and with no real weapons, no silver nitrate or even plain old silver bullets, she wasn't so sure she could take on more than one or two at a time.

But, could she really kill someone so innocent? Was she that much of a monster herself?

"You are brave beyond your years, boy." she remarked, not just because of how he was acting in this moment but throughout their interaction. She could respect that, and she could respect the pain he had been through thus far in his life. And she didn't mean merely physical. Finally she shook her head slightly. "That wouldn't be very fair of me, would it? When you've done nothing at all to me." Her mind wasn't in complete agreement, but that disharmony was slightly tempered as she told herself things could always change. If he proved himself to be dangerous, for example. "And my name is Selene, by the way." It was somewhat of an afterthought, now that she was trying to come down from defensive mode. Clearly she wouldn't give her name to someone and then try to kill them.

Remus watched her intently as she seemed to think about what she would do with him. And she was quiet long enough that he was worried she'd say 'yes' to his question. But then she remarked that he was brave, and he drew in a slow breath. That was a good sign. "No, I suppose it wouldn't be. But not everyone is always fair." He reminded her quietly, but it came with a little smile. "But I'm glad that you've seen fit to be that way." She could have easily have just killed him.. or tried. Remus didn't normally run, but he would if he had to. He didn't want to die.

"It's very nice to meet you, Selene." He returned just as softly, nodding his head and sending gray-flecked pale brown hair swinging. It was getting long, he needed to get it cut. "You're not going to tell anyone about me, are you?" He was re-asking his question from earlier.. since she hadn't answered at the time.

"That is unfortunately very true." She returned his smile even as part of her still couldn't believe what she was doing. Was there an easier kill? Other than a human, of course. But she wasn't as evil as some of her peers, and she didn't have it in her to harm him when he had done nothing to her. Her small smile lingered as he repeated his question from earlier and she shook her head. "I won't, so long as you don't tell anyone about me either. I've no desire to be found out anymore than you do. It's hard to guess how people might react, especially in this place."

"I won't tell them anything. I don't believe that it's really any of their business. So long as you and I don't hurt anyone," Which would be hard, on both of their parts.. she needed to feed and he turned into an uncontrollable monster once a month, "I don't see any of them needing to know. In my experience, everyone reacts the same way, no matter where they are." Except for his friends... but Peter, James and Sirius didn't count as 'everyone'. They were special.

They were better.

He was a smart one, that was for sure. Of course, if he had been dealing with this for as many years as he alluded to she imagined he would have realized by now how dangerous it was to let people in on his furry secret. "Even then, it's not necessarily their business." she replied to his mark about one of them hurting someone. Personally she didn't really think anyone needed to know that she was a vampire unless she chose to tell them. So far there were only two on that list, although the Doctor knew she wasn't human. And really, he would find out soon enough, either because he reached the conclusion on his own or she told him. Out of everyone so far, she still trusted him the most and it would likely stay that way for awhile.

"Well, not everyone here is human, or something like you or I, so I don't think everyone would react the same in this case." Gambit certainly hadn't been phased. The thought reminded her he was a puzzle she still had to figure out, but not right now. Not when she had a young lycan she seemed to be befriending. ...oh hell, this was feeling like Michael all over again.

Except this boy wasn't being hunted, nor was he important in any way. She had no reason to look after him.. not really. But he was smiling some and nodding again, curling his fingers more tightly around his journal. But then she mentioned that not everyone here was human, and that brought a curious look to his face. "What else would they be? Aside from.. being like you or me?" What else looked human but wasn't? That man in the forest, with pointy ears... He was clearly some sort of.. sprite half breed. Or something.

But he honestly couldn't think of anything else. Not that would look like a human. Veelas, vampires, werewolves.. giants were too big. Trolls were too ugly. What else could they be? His mind hadn't wandered to aliens. They weren't real.

"To be perfectly honest, I don't know." And that frustrated her to no end. There were too many unknowns. Far too many for her liking. "As strange as this place is, I think it's best to be prepared for anything. Though if you've been a werewolf as long as you say you have, I'm sure you're more than capable of protecting yourself." Funny how things could change so quickly. One minute she was still contemplating taking out the only enemy she thought she had, and the next she was recommending he be cautious to stay alive. Perhaps she was going mad from the stress, that would explain it.

"How did you hurt yourself?" she asked again after a pause, gaze once more going to the bandage on his one hand. She was likely to keep asking until she got a suitable answer. Really it was as much to distract her from the scent of blood as it was curiosity.

"I can't remember a time where I wasn't." He admitted quietly. A time when he wasn't a werewolf, he meant. He always had been, though he knew it wasn't true, not really. He'd been normal once, he'd been just human once. But now he was this monster.. and he'd been a monster much longer than he'd been a human. Almost his entire life. And it'd haunt him forever. However, when she said he was capable of protecting himself, he just inclined his head some -- because without his wand, he wasn't capable of protecting anything. But he didn't want to tell her that. Not in this strange place. He didn't want to seem any more vulnerable than he already was.

"For me.. the full moon was two nights ago. Every full moon, I'm locked in a tower that I can't escape. And without any humans to bite or people to chase down.. I attack myself. I don't have any control over it.. but I can remember doing it." He lowered his eyes down to the gauze on the back of his hand, then. "Better me than someone else." No, Selene, he was nothing like your wolves. He had no control. It was bad enough that he attacked himself. She had better full well hope that he was locked up in a month's time, or that this silly experiment was over by then. For while he was a small werewolf, thanks to his age.. he was still a force to be reckoned with.

She listened attentively and as he explained his situation she did her best not to appear too surprised. She wasn't sure she managed it. It did sound a little like those first lycans, those that William bit and turned himself. And the more her mind made comparisons the more it sounded like some sick sort of deja vu. "No control at all? Not even a tiny bit gained over the years?" That... that could pose a problem. She wasn't so sure she could contain a werewolf like that. Hell, she hadn't contained much of anything over her life, aside from perhaps killing sprees made by lycans. This was something else entirely. "What if you were able to hunt? There's wildlife here. I don't know the full extent of it but I may have to make use of it myself to survive." She didn't want to in the slightest, but there seemed no other way.

"None." He admitted with a glance down. The way she said it, it made him feel.. well.. rather inferior. Like he should have been able to control it. Like he was weak that he couldn't. And he let out a slow breath. This was the last thing he'd expected when he'd shown up in his strange place -- being scolded by a vampire.

However, when she asked if he could hunt, he looked up and shook his head. "Werewolves-- my kind, anyway-- we don't hunt animals. They're not a threat, and we've no need to feed. We've been known to actually protect them from humans, in several instances." He lifted his book some, to hold it in front of his chest, almost as if for protection. "The only think I think about when I'm transformed is human blood. Nothing else. It's the driving force, I want nothing more than to bite people." It was how werewolves reproduced, it was the drive of every werewolf, when in the animal form. Reproduce. Make more. They hunted humans not to eat them, but to turn them into monsters. It was a virus, a disease, and it spread as violently as the wolves themselves.

Selene was pretty sure she was staring but she couldn't help it. His variety of werewolf sounded far too much like the first lycans for her comfort. Well, clearly not the first, as Remus was standing there talking to her and he mentioned earlier just how many times he had shifted over his life thus far. So perhaps more like the second or third generation. But still a long ways away from the lycans she had 'grown up' knowing. Her brow furrowed and a frown darkened her face as she tried to reconcile this new knowledge with her decision to let him be. If he turned into a monster like that, really, the most humane thing to do would be to kill him. Save her the trouble of doing it in a few weeks' time or less and not risk increasing the number of his kind. But... surely there had to be another way. Looking at that face, Selene had to think of another way. It was one thing to harm a big furry beast, it was quite another to harm a young boy, especially one that had yet to be afraid of her.

"The werewolves I'm used to dealing with are a good deal evolved from that point." She put a hand to her temple as if trying to fight off a headache and let out a slow breath. It wouldn't do any good to think of 'her' brand of lycans, not if he didn't function the same. "Your kind... have you ever heard of anyone gaining control over the beast? Or finding a way to fight it?" Lucian's pack, they had created a drug, hadn't they? Something to stave off the change. Perhaps if there were any drugs left in the pharmacy she could try and figure out what kind of a cocktail it was, or she could find someone knowledgeable about that sort of thing to help her. It was a long shot but it certainly couldn't hurt to try.

"No.. not really. The one that bit me.. he had some control. I don't know much about it, but I know that he could choose which victims to bite and which to leave alone, while he was transformed." Which meant that he'd chosen to bite this child instead of any adults around him-- because he certainly hadn't been alone that late at night, at this young age. Remus shook his head a little, gray-specked hair shifting again, he really needed it cut.

"I don't mean to be such a bother." It was an apology, to the vampire, who was still thinking about killing him. Really, Remus was a hard case. He was so nice while in a human form, and so dangerous while he wasn't. But he clearly could be contained, he'd been contained his whole life, every full moon, and the only person who got hurt was himself. And he was completely okay with that. As long as no one else was injured. If they could simply figure out a way to keep him locked up.. maybe stick him in the tunnels. Or perhaps that Doctor Selene trusted.. maybe he could help them. He'd been pretty smart, right?

Well, if even one of the beasts had been able to gain some control that meant it was possible. Of course, whether it was learned or not was an unknown. And she tried not to let her thoughts linger on the knowledge that the animal that attacked Remus had chosen a child. Thinking about that wouldn't help figure out how to keep herself and him, and to a lesser degree the others here, safe.

"Then that means it's not impossible. It's just a matter of figuring out how." Maybe she should have tried to pay a little more attention to how lycans behaved, though she supposed she knew a few things after hunting them so long. At his apology she shook her head, waving it off. "It's not your fault." And that had to be the first time she'd ever said that about a lycan.

"I hope that we won't be here long enough to have to worry about such things." He admitted quietly, before turning once again and offering her a smile. "Thank you, for trying to help me. And for keeping my secret." He wasn't that concerned about people finding out. He'd been able to keep it a secret so long at school. Except from his friends, and Snape, unfortunately... But with only this woman knowing? He felt relatively secure. But only because he didn't really understand what was going on here. Not yet.

"I hope that as well, but it doesn't hurt to think ahead." That was all the vampire could do, really. Stay on her toes and plan for what might be necessary. Like trying to keep him from changing and turning half these people before she could put a stop to it. At the sight of his smile she offered a small one of her own. "Thank me if I figure out something that does help. Your secret is certainly safe with me." Partly because he knew hers, and partly because if people knew there was a werewolf running around they might wonder what else was. Vampires and werewolves did kind of go hand in hand.

"No, it doesn't. You're right." He nodded in agreement, fingers curling tighter around his book before relaxing again, and the smile returned. "I should.. probably get going back into town." He'd taken up enough of her time, and he felt a little bad about it. "You've been very nice. Thank you. I need to find a place to sleep tonight.. there's a girl, who offered me a place to stay. I might end up sleeping there. Where is it that you sleep?" He imagined it'd be somewhere high, something like the top of a building, or maybe the clock tower.

She glanced around, finally taking her gaze from him for a moment, and realized she'd nearly forgotten they were in the carnival. Guess it was a good thing there wasn't anything lurking waiting to attack them. "Yes, unless you fancy sleeping out in the forest." Which she was kind of thinking of doing, when she needed some sleep. It didn't seem anyone really went out there so it made it rather perfect for anyone who wanted to hide. When he asked where she was sleeping Selene shrugged a shoulder. "I only just arrived here a day ago, so I haven't settled anywhere. The museum rooftop last night, but I don't know if I'll return there." It was strange to talk about sleeping at night. She'd be much better off resting during the day for a bit so she could explore in peace at night. As she looked back at him she gave a slight nod. "I'm sure we'll be able to find each other when necessary, as small as this place is. Try and stay safe, Remus."

"If you need a place to rest, I'm sure you'd be welcome where I'm staying." Though he wasn't sure a vampire would be interested in it. They seemed to stick to themselves.. or at least that was what all of his books said. They, like wolves, ran in packs. Of course, they didn't call them 'Packs', they gave them fancy names.

"And I'm sure we'll find one another again.. thank you, Selene." He extended his hand out one last time, to shake her hand, polite young man. Then he allowed it to fall back to his side and he let out a little breath. "I will, you do the same." He was rather taken with this woman.. she was quite pretty, and on top of that, she hadn't run away screaming when she found out what he was. That was a large plus.

At his comment about staying where he was she had to laugh softly and shake her head. "I think it's probably better I stay on my own. You blend in a good easier than I do." She gave him a small smile, and this time when she shook his hand it was just a warm shake. Like one would give a friend. Before they parted, she gestured to his injured hand. "Don't forget to let yourself heal up, either. Wouldn't want anyone else to start following you about." She flashed a sideways smile, and in her mind she was already trying to decide if it was worth checking out the pharmacy right now or if she was better off trying to find someone who knew something about drugs. It probably wouldn't do her much good to look for something that might stop a shift if she didn't have any idea what she was looking for.

"I won't. Thank you." He smiled wider then and nodded his head, then was turning and beginning to walk off, glancing back over his shoulder only once at her, before he continued back into the town, to try and find a place to settle in for the night.
