Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!dropped, day 16, ianto jones, lexie grey, location: the gym

Maybe today is Saturday.

Who: Lexie Grey and Ianto Jones
Where: The Gym
When: Day 16, 1:30 PM
What: Examining the head of <s>Boe</s> Jack.
Rating: PGish. Unless you're grossed out by a disembodied head!

Status: Active

Lexie had managed a restless evening. It wasn't because of her own issues. No, she'd had an easy day outside of cryptic note from Andy telling her that she had to 'run.' She had run. She ran from that damned 'party' to the gym. She'd holed up in her cubby and she'd stalked the journals, watching for any sign of why she was supposed to have been running away. Nothing happened.

Then Dean had come in, he was shaken and that scared her. He'd spouted off and said things that didn't <i>fit.</i> That scared her more. She'd stayed, though. She'd stayed and waited and comforted. She welcomed him into her arms and just held on. It was all she could do for a guy who didn't seem to want to say more than the word 'surgeries.' She didn't know what else she could do.

Then, there'd been Dean's nightmares. The way he jumped scared her every time. The way he'd wrap himself against her anew each time like she was a security blanket wasn't a foreign concept, it was just unexpected. None of it, though, lead to any rest. None of it let her sleep. All of it drained her. That exhaustion could be seen completely on Lexie's face. Dark circles under her eyes and a slight townturn of her lips. She wasn't sad or angry about it; she just needed to get some rest.

Though, she's worked through being tired before; so, she set herself up at the table in the clinic and played solitaire. She'd wait and see if anyone was going to come in for clinic hours. She'd wait until the shadows started to reach past the row of cots. Then, she'd go back into her closet and try to take a nap; that's what she'd do. Because she wasn't going to open the neatly addressed envelope she'd woke up with in her hand this morning. She knew the handwriting. She knew what it could, and probably would say. Still, the envelope sat on the table like a ghost, taunting her.

A few nightmares would be a lot better than the thing Ianto was toting around, wrapped in a blanket. And, really, the stupid thing was heavy. It would have been better to bury it, but it winked at him and nodded at Jack and some sick part of Ianto just had to know: was the head real?

The only place he could think of where someone could help him with the stupid thing was the clinic. Maybe the doctors there would be interested. Otherwise he was smashing the jar himself and poking at the head until satisfied.

Jack probably thought he was a looney. But then Jack was cheerfully jumping up and down on an alarm clock, so he couldn't talk too much.

Ianto attempted to knock when he wandered in, but mainly failed since his arms were full. "Hallo!" he called and craned his neck about to see if anyone was there. It seemed that there was. "Ah! Hallo, are ... you one of the doctors?"

Lexie looked up at the sound of 'Hallo!' a phrase she hadn't really heard pronounced like that before. Accent? Like an English accent? She had heard those before, but this one was sort of.. different.

Pulling the cards in and setting the deck away on top of that damned envelope she tried her best to put on a nice, big smile. "Lexie Grey, at your service.. are you hurt?" He didn't look hurt. In fact, he looked quite well. Which lead her attention to the jar the man was carrying. There was something hairy in that jar.

"What's that?"

English accent. Well. Close. A little more lilt, a little more slur. But still pleasant enough to hear. Ianto smiled rather brightly at the doctor before thunking his burden down on the nearest surface avaliable. "Ianto Jones and no, I'm fine. A bit startled, but fine. This is what I wanted a bit of help on. Brace yourself, it's a bit ..gruesome."

Weird. It was weird. It wasn't gruesome at all. No dangling bits of flesh or anything rotten or anything. Just ... Jack's head in what Ianto thought was a large pickle jar. Ianto whisked the blanket away and revealed the head to Lexie. "It .. blinks occasionally. It winked once at me. I should just bury it and be done with it, but I have to know. Is it real?"

Sick puppy.

Lexie wasn't quite as intimately familiar with accents from the United Kingdom to be able to discern Welsh from British. Or was it English? Either way, she could tell what an Irish accent was and a Scottish one was. So, the velvety way that man was talking? It would have to an English accent.

When he said it was gruesome she canted her head a little. That head stayed canted when he showed her the jar's contents. "Where did you get that?" That sounded less than amused by more than a little surprised. "Blinks? You think it's still alive in there?" She tapped the jar. No response.

"Well, the only way we're going to know if it's real is to see if it's plastic or not. Though, it's hard to really want to open that jar up without knowing what sort of preserving agent is in there... Formaldehyde isn't really something you want to mess around with too much."

"Um. Woke up with it next to me. I think it's meant to be scary or something, but given that the bloke who's head this is supposed to be was sitting next to me staring at this, it wasn't so much scary as it was ... sort of weird." Ianto frowned when the head didn't so much as bat an eyelash at the tapping. It winked. He swore it winked.

"Er. Then what do you suggest?" Because he really wanted to know. Ianto tapped at the glass a bit, too, trying to coax out a response.

"You get a head, I get a letter." Inspecting it again she squinted. "Oh gosh, it's that crazy dude..." That's right, she'd never met the 'real' Captain Jack - only his clone and that clone had scared her. A lot. He'd caught her when she was at her most vulnerable and made her shake. Logan had saved her. He'd made that crazy man leave. Then he'd stayed with her until she fell asleep. She never did really get to thank him for that.

"Masks and gloves to start. If either of us starts feeling woozy we close the jar immediately." She turned and reached out to one of her makeshift shelves pulling out gloves and masks. Sure, the masks would only block the smell; if there were vapors, they'd have to react pretty quickly to contain them.

"Here you go," she said, holding out a set to Ianto. "This should be interesting."

Ianto accepted the mask and gloves and began to put them on. No problems with that. Actually, he was rather glad she had masks and gloves on her. "You know Jack?" he asked as he slipped the mask over his nose and mouth. "I'll admit, he is a bit barmy, but he's been fairly sedate for him lately."

Well. Fairly. Randy didn't count since it was Jack, after all.

Once his gloves were on, Ianto reached for the jar and began to unscrew the lid. "You got a letter? I take it that it was as disturbing as the head in a jar?" All in all, Ianto would have prefered a letter, though it was easy to be cheerfully weirded out by this. Jack had been with him, staring at the jar in the morning, after all.

He had on her gloves and mask and she was pulling that jar closer giving it another tentative tap. No response. "I wouldn't say I know him." Lexie's head canted, this polite fellow was a friend of that guy who wanted to hug her? That guy who didn't know the meaning of personal space? That guy who had completely scared her to death?

"That's sedate?" She gave Ianto a look like he was crazy. "I'd hate to see him with caffeine then... Or sugar... or normal."

She tried at the lid. no dice. "You grab the bottom, I'll grab the top." Taking hold of the top she waited for him to do the same. With luck between the pair of them they'd be able to get the damned thing open.

"Well, the seriousness of the place as sort of dampened him down," Ianto said, holding the jar as she tugged. They didn't seem to be getting very far, did they? "He's a lot perkier once he's had his cuppa -- Oi, the bloody thing's stuck. I don't want to hit it with a hammer, but it's starting to look like that's the only way to open it."

Ianto grabbed the bottom when instructed and braced his feet to tug hard.

"Are we talking about the same guy? The guy I ran into he might as well have been hopped up on crack. Seriously... Your friend, he's like that all the time? He's totally got to drive you insane..." Lexie was babbling, sorry Ianto.

Lexie nodded. "One-Two-Three," she counted, gripping the lid tightly and turning. With a pop and a hiss the jar came open. Instantly the air flooded with a nasty smelling preservative.

"How nasty is that?" She asked, setting the lid aside. "At least it only seems to smell bad..." She didn't know what the hell the head was in, but it didn't seem to be formaldehyde.

"Yes, that's about it. He drives me mad, most days." He sounded like he didn't seem to mind it much at all. "But he cares about people even if he doesn't show it."

At the hiss, Ianto set the jar down and backed away, bent over to cough out the bad smell. Yelch, that was disgusting! "I don't think I've smelled worse," he said, agreeing with Lexie. "Well. Not recently. Ugh, that's not something I want to smell again."
