1926, that was a long time ago, and yet...Martha knew what 1913 had been like, so it was easy for her to imagine. Taking another deep breath, she kept her voice calm. Her hands lowering to take time. Since she didn't have a watch, she had to time it in her head. Merope's pulse was fast, but not dangerously so. More like she was nervous. "You're doing great. Just try and relax. Don't worry about paying me, no one here can pay anyone anything." She smiled again. "We're kind of all in this together."
Relieved that at least that was fine. Martha gave another smile. "I'm going to have you lay down on your back now, Merope. I have to check and make sure your, that everything is fine from when the baby came out. Okay?" She took one of the cloths she'd brought along, and laid it out on the floor. "I'll be pressing against your stomach, and I need you to tell me where it hurts the most. Okay?"
