WHAT: Jack is worried about the Doctor. And when I say worried, I mean very.
WHEN: 11:00 am

The barn raising could have gone better but Jack knew it also could have gone a LOT worse. And by a lot worse, he meant the entire place going up. No, he didn't know what the Doctor was completely capable of, but he knew the stories and he knew the legends. And, frankly, Jack didn't want to see him in that state.

Which was why, after Ianto left him in the morning, Jack found himself aimlessly wandering vas captio, ignoring the remnants of destruction following the hurricane. He wanted to check out the carnival, but he couldn't bring himself to go there. Instead, he found himself walking to the outer reaches, reaching the glass box that enclosed them. Closing his eyes, Jack leaned his forehead against it, resting a hand up against it as well.

There had to be a way out. They couldn't scale the wall, but was it possible to dig? How far down did the barrier go?

They needed out -- before they all killed each other with no help from the Insider.

The Doctor had literally stormed away from Remy. All he could hear in his head was the mutant telling him that he couldn't leave. That he couldn't walk away. Well, walk away he did, Red Eyes, take a look at that. He'd walked to far away that he was nearer to the wall than he'd thought, the sheer adrenaline carrying him on.

Squinting through his glasses the Doctor spied a grey coated figure just ahead, and if he didn't know better he'd have thought that Jack was almost praying there - leaning against the glass wall and pressed against it as if he were communing with it.

"Jack," he said quietly from behind him. The Doctor's voice was cold - and it was only cold because he'd managed to stuff his anger down deep in his belly. He'd been manhandled and bullied and of all things exploited by the Cajun today and the Doctor was just starting to truly rage at the earth beneath his feet.

The presence of his friend, however, caused him to pull it in, to tuck it to the rear of his mind. Just for a moment. You have eternity, Time Lord; deal with the important things first.

Standing near the wall had afforded no answers, but then again Jack hadn't expected any. That would have been too easy and up until this point Vas Captio had been anything but easy. Hell a simple explanation would have been disappointing.

Jack straightened up when he heard the Doctor's voice and there was something in his voice that gave Jack pause. "Doctor," he said turning, leaning casually against the wall. "So what brings you out this way?"

The Doctor saw his friend stiffen a little as he turned around and leaned back against the glass. What was there to be uncomfortable about?

"I needed the walk." Understatement of the century. You, Doctor, needed to get away. You'd wanted to run away if you could manage it and still retain your dignity.

"I can't imagine why you'd come all the way out here to commune with the wall."

It wasn't that Jack was concerned -- he was simply worried hearing a tone he wasn't used to hearing in the other man's voice. Still, Jack smiled like nothing was wrong. Really. Sorta. Only... not.

"Perfect day for a stroll," Jack replied. "The birds aren't singing..." A poor attempt at a joke and they both knew it.

Jack kicked behind himself, foot coming into contact with the wall. "Another attempt to get out. Brute force didn't work so I thought we'd try a snog. Usually get what I want after a bit of sweet talking and attention."

	The Doctor didn't really react to Jack's attempt at humor - had his friend expected him to? Sorry. His hands wound up deep within his pockets and the Doctor was moving slowly to close the distance between he and his friend, taking up a spot beside to lean as well. That damned wall. No, Jack hadn't expected him to -- but Jack knew that he had to make some poor attempt at it, otherwise there'd be the fear that clones had taken over once more. Jack smiled once the Doctor moved closer and he pushed off the wall to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the other man.

Doctor and (one of) his companion. They should be able to do anything, right?

"What can I say? In some cases I'm an easy man to please." Jack turned his head, looking at the other man. "What's happening to us all, Doctor?" he asked softly before he could stop himself.

The Doctor and one of his companions. The should be able to do anything. Everything. Absolutely. They still could. If someone hadn't seemed to have stacked the deck against them. There is no such thing as a no-win situation. The Doctor always wins.

The Doctor cracked a smile. Easy to please? Jack? He ought to have that stamped on his forehead.

JAcks' question was quiet and in a way it knocked th eDoctor out of his funk. For his friends, the ones who relied onhim, there were certain things even he just had to do. He couldn't be the bitter, angry Doctor in the face of a friend he knew believed in him

"I don't know, Jack," he started, organizing his next words carefully. "They're not winning, though. Don't you even think for one minute they're winning."

They should be able to do anything -- hell, Jack had done the impossible with the Doctor, hadn't he? Jack was still here after being Exterminated, he was a walking impossibility. So it shouldn't be an issue to get out of here if they just put their minds to it.

Ah, a smile. That was a relief to see that spread across the Doctor's face even if it was at his own expense.

It was only when the Doctor started speaking that Jack realised his silent question had been asked aloud. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his greatcoat, looking back at the glass wall. "No, they're not winning so long as you or I are standing. And I think we know just how hard it is to keep me down." Jack swallowed, kicking at the wall. "But not everyone here has the same fortitude that you or I do. And it's so random... we can't keep watch on everyone at once. Not to mention those who only cause trouble."

They'd done the impossible, the improbable and the downright unheard of. They'd saved the entire universe and even thwarted a paradox. That's right folks, they'd made a paradox stop. That took talent, skill, AND luck.

"No, we can't keep watch on everyone. Which is why it's imperitive that we get out of here quickly," that sounded as an obvious statement as a play-by-play announcer with a two minute delay. Realizing this the Doctor scratched his head. "The troublemakers have been fairly quiet in the past day or so, I wonder if they've been beaten too far down by the quake." The Doctor knew the effect that the quake was having on him, he hated to think of what sort of effect it was having on those who didn't have much hope of escape to start with.

"Besides, we have some very good allies on our side; Sarah Jane, the Winchesters, Shannon, Tonks... even Gambit. It's not like we have to do it all on our own." Wasn't he just a coat of many colors? A few short hours ago he was telling Gambit that he wanted to go take out the people in charge on his own, now he was telling Jack that they didn't have to. The Doctor's stomach turned. A very large part of him wanted to at least go take care of that Insider. Now. He wanted to go and make certain that the Insider wouldn't be the cause of any more chaos around here.

The Doctor shifted. His brain was back on the Cajun. Damned Cajun. Screwing with him like this. And he was impossible to say no to - because he was one of the few creatures in the universe who literally seemed physically unable to take no for an answer. Here the Doctor thought he was the only one of those in the whole of time and space. Well, maybe him and Captain Jack. Though, Jack did manage to take 'no' from the Doctor. Gambit wouldn't even do that.

Cue hands in pockets pensive look... Now.

Doing the impossible was one of Jack's favourite pasttimes -- particularly when with the Doctor. Talent, skill and luck were three things they had in spades when they were together -- even if it seemed like they were quickly running out of that aforementioned luck while here.

"Thank you captain obvious," Jack replied with playful roll of his eyes. "Though I don't know if one can jump through the ranks that easily. Usually takes working your way up through them. And yes, they can be grateful for the record." The smile faded from Jack's face and he toed at the ground. "I don't know. I'd like to think they have been, but I don't know if any of us have that sort of luck around here."

Jack nodded, all of those were people he'd consider their best allies, those who would do anything to get out of here. "Logan... At times I think his intentions may be pure but he sure as hell doesn't execute it well." And that was a decided understatement. Frowning, Jack caught the look on the Doctor's face -- pensive, pensive wasn't a good look for him.

Pensive worried Jack.

And, for the record, the only reason Jack took no from the Doctor was because he knew better than to push. Otherwise? Jack didn't take no. Ever.

"What is it, Doctor?" Jack asked, laying a hand on his friend's shoulder.
