Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!dropped, day 11, location: gym, luna lovegood, merope gaunt, open

Who: Merope Gaunt & OTA
Where: The Gym
Why: She's injured + heart attack, shouldn't be running around alot.
When: 9PM

Being stationary for so long caused her to think over things that she shouldn't be, her body was rested on her back with her head tilted up towards the ceiling. She began to think of Tom, her husband, the words that were said to her so loudly, inside their home and outside.

Daft bint! You bewitched me! You whore! Get out of my life, I don't want anything to do with your demon child or you.

A cling of a ring that was once his wedding band hit the concrete and she never saw him again.

Her beautiful Tom, made her heart ache inside and her hand rubbed over her chest. The sound of his voice had haunted her to the point of tears, she couldn't let anyone see her like this. They would ask questions and she couldn't handle questions from multiple people. Merope didn't care about her well being, nothing made it better and she needed to hide somewhere or get away from them.

Merope's mentality became worse and worse, the dark did it and so did the misery of others.

Pressing her hands against the bed, she took a much laboured breath and leaned up so she was sitting up. Thanks to the cast, her arm wouldn't buckle regardless of weight as she turned so her legs moved into slippers and she struggled to stand on her own. If she could do anything, it was for her to keep going without rhyme or reason.

Merope moved at a glacial pace until she was outside, her arm moving around a pole for support and her eyes closed. If there was anything she took refuge in, it was the silence of the night and how peaceful it had been. When she heard a noise, her eyes went to the forest and thought of entering but it was too far, she'd likely pass out before she even made it.

The black-haired girl felt exhausted just standing there, but she wanted grass and trees. She missed making flowers grow.

Alone in the Gym, Luna had laid on the cot she had been pointed to after her hand had been tended to, thinking of home. She missed Neville. For the most part he had not lingered in her thoughts all that much since she had arrived in this place, not much at all. And yet, quiet contemplation, especially after being told that two days had passed without her knowledge and not much of anything in reaction from her return, Luna missed Neville.

Someone who cared about her, worried about her when she was gone. They had separated because he had been offered the junior professorship at Hogwarts, and her path was taking her to South America and Australia for nearly a year.

Now she wondered if that had been the right decision. It had seemed right at the time, but now...

Nearby, a few cots over, Merope stirred and then slowly left the gym.

Several moments passed, and Luna silently pulled herself up and followed. She might have deliberately avoided the younger girl, believing it was best to skirt the ripples of time as much as possible, but things were murkier here. When the blonde stopped beside the raven haired, Luna spoke, "I prefer the sky to broken ceiling."

Merope looked over to the forest with desire in her eyes, but someone would say something and it would get back to her partner. A sigh passed through her pale. greyish lips as she felt tired just standing there but didn't want to return to a dark, solitary place so she was left with nothing but her own thoughts.

Just as she thought of moving again, she felt someone come beside her but didn't look. It'd probably be the first time that someone just randomly approached her for human contact as she'd given up so long ago on that. A light-hearted voice came and the mismatched eyes of Merope turned towards Luna, frowning as she remembered their first meeting.

A wide-eyed look of fear on an angel's face, like she'd seen Satan or possibly something more sinister.

Merope turned her head towards the forest,"I prefer the forest to a dark building." Merope wanted to feel worse, but in the state she was in, she figured it'd only anger others if she were to become upset

God, how she missed her child and her former lover.

"How are you, Luna?"

"The trees and the creatures that live amongst its depths," Luna agreed. Before modifying the thought, "Those who do not wish harm, preferred." It was a surprising thing to have in common, not that Luna had ever thought to wonder if she would have something so benign in common with the mother of Tom Riddle.

Perhaps it was best to think of her as Merope, the girl, rather than Merope, the mother of a monster.

"They say it isn't safe," she remarked, thinking of Sam's warning for her to keep away from the forest. It still beckoned to her, remembered safety mixed with just remembrances. "Not alone, not in the dark." Although it was likely marked as foolish, Luna knew a way to subvert the last, or at least try to. "It was no safer, nor more dangerous than what lies outside the forest." Dean had been badly injured in it, and it had been the middle of the day, but others had been injured and even killed outside.

Completely bypassing her physical state, although that was not that bad at all, Luna instead answered. "I disappeared, then reappeared. I do not remember touching a portkey, and have felt no magic about the event."

"My father owned property of where we lived. He always kicked me out for the night, I used to hide there all the time. I know every inch of it, all the snakes in it too." She took a long deep breath, her arm with the cast wrapped around the pole and she turned to Luna briefly before looking away. It was difficult for her to talk aloud, but she did such to keep from looking like a freak.

"I never cared if it is alone, in the dark or in the light. I lived as a homeless person," She turned to Luna,"I'm scared of people, not of everything else." Merope faintly shrugged, her hand rubbing her heart, feeling stressed.

Knowing bits and pieces of Merope's past was one thing, far different in nature to hearing them from the source. While Luna had, as a rule, been one to try to see the world while studying history from the perspectives of the individuals she read of, she had a bit of a blind spot when it came to Death Eaters and those associated with them.

That Merope had been a sad and alone figure had been quite glossed over in the new history books put out over the war, few people wished to know of her. Know the real her, at least. She was either demonized as the bitch who birthed the greatest monster their world had ever seen, or, in some circles that hid away as best as possible, the woman who brought forward the Half Blood Prince.

"My father is terrified of the woods," she confided after a moment. "My mother loved it, taught me to love the forest, but my father never learned any different and feared what could be inside because of what he knew could be held within its depths." Facing the other girl now, her gaze was sympathetic, "Alone is not always bad, and," she had to admit, "People can be cruel. But there is far more good in them than bad. Sometimes not even they realize it."

Many says she deserved her fate, worded to many as being nothing more than a manipulative rapist of sorts. A whore with a child bore from a marriage of a potion-induced love. The longer she stared at Luna, the more she realized how beautiful Luna was and she felt herself become a bit cold.

A little jealous that her face didn't have any, not enough to love anyway.

Merope heard Luna's recollection,"We must live in very different times, I don't think I've met one kind person back in London. Not one. -- I would never want to go back anyway, even if I could."

Unknowing of the change in Merope's view of her, or of why exactly she would no longer be quite as open to what she had to say, Luna never would have guessed that it was for something as trivial to her as physical beauty. She had met beautiful witches, handsome wizards, who in the end had merely been empty or dark creatures that not even true creatures would deign to be among. Just as much as she had found those who were supposedly lacking in physical beauty being wonderful in far more important ways.

For all that open minded view, it was ironic that she was usually judged on her behavior and thoughts rather than her face and found wanting in some way.

"The world has changed," Luna did not particularly like censoring her words as such, even as she edged around the blunt truth, but saw no other avenue. "There are other places to go," she once again edged, knowing the rumors that the girl had simply laid down to die in depression after giving birth to Vol-Tom, or that she had been killed in some Muggle way while refusing to use her magic. "Less harsh places to be found."

The words touched Merope, her face had finally softened a little, she couldn't imagine a world where the people weren't awful pricks. Merope seemed to get quiet, thinking about her situation as her arms crossed over her chest and the opposing arm rested on each shoulder with her head down. The only person she'd opened to was Rorschach, but she was unsure if anything could fill the gap she had.

"...I could deal with it, I think, if I had my child and husband again." There was more to be said, but she refrained as details were not interesting.

"..Luna? Why did you make that face, when I said I was related to Slytherin?"

This was why Luna had avoided Merope so completely over the last over week, for fear of that question cropping up. Or, rather, that line of questioning. Still, unless she was to continue avoiding the younger witch at every turn in this small bubble village, a miracle that she had managed it thus far, she would have to deliver some semblance of an answer.

The truth, yes. Not the full truth, however. There was absolutely no reason to tell Merope just what kind of twisted fiend the baby she had given birth to had become.

"In my time," she chose each word carefully, more carefully than she had ever had to, quite possibly. "We suffered two wars against a group of dark wizards and witches who were led by a wizard who wore his ancestry including Slytherin as an emblem."

Merope looked directly at Luna, tilting her head some as she didnt understand at all. Her hands lowered and she easily dropped them by her sides and leaned more on the pole. Her hand then raised to her mouth, thinking, she knew Morfin hadn't bred as he'd been in jail and her father had no other sons.

She swallowed, throat tensing.

"What was his name? Morfin Gaunt? --" She stopped a moment, gaining her bearings,"...Tom Marvolo Riddle?" There was not many who had the ancestry of Slytherin, she looked curious but hurt. Her hands went to Luna's shoulders, waiting for an answer.

The question asked was one that Luna practically saw brewing in the head of the younger girl, and was already aware of the only thing she could say in answer. "Merope Gaunt," Luna automatically used the other witch's full name for full effect. "The laws prohibit me from telling you the name of the leader of the Death Eaters, we cannot change the past for fear of destroying the present and the future."

Even while Merope were holding onto her shoulders, the blonde took little notice of the contact. There was no way that she could bend that rule, not in this case. What the consequences might be if the Ministry ever found out, she could not know for sure, but she knew at least that hippogriff feathers were not involved.

She was hurt, her heart felt an ache as pulled away and felt a sudden rush of stress on her body. Merope shook her head, as she figured it out on her own as there had been no real other option. Why did Luna approach her? Why did she come near her? Where she had been standing didn't have a a beam for her to catch herself on and she felt her legs buckle beneath her.

She had not even done that right, she couldn't have produced a normal child. "My little boy..." She tightened her eyes shut, her hand moving to grip the fabric over her chest as if that would help ease the hard beating that it performed. The black-haired girl was veiled by the strands that were pulled back before.

There could be no one else, she just knew it. Luna would not have avoided saying it otherwise.

The girl, that was what she was really, not quite even a young woman, she began to fall, and Luna stepped the half step forward she needed. Luna was small, an inch or so shorter than the dark haired girl, and thin, but Merope was nearly all skin and bones with no flesh to be had. So when Luna stepped forward and caught the girl, she was able to at least stall her fall.

Still, Luna was exhausted, and one of her hands was bandaged from the burn on her palm, making holding onto the younger witch that much more difficult. So the blonde eased the other witch into a seated position, sitting down beside her.

It could have been the boy across the way from Merope and Luna still would have been constrained by the laws not to say.

Merope winced, she didn't want to be near Luna if she was going to be morbid about news that she'd been aching to hear. When Merope was finally on the ground, she leaned back and down so she was laying on her side, turned from Luna. She wanted some kind of comfort, some kind of stroking but she very much knew that she didn't deserve it as it had probably been her fault for whatever her son ha done.

She needed to settle down, but that seemed so easy to say and hard to do. Merope felt much more undeserving of her life, she knew others would disagree.

What was she going to do, it's not like she could tell anyone.

"Why did you want to talk to me?"

While Luna could not just leave the young witch out here, on the ground, curled into her pathetic little ball, neither did she know what she was supposed to do.

If she had known what Merope had truly done, what she had done to Tom Riddle Sr., she would not have lingered in any way.

The blonde witch might have offered comfort in the past to Hermione, even after the other witch mocked her, to her face and behind her back. She certainly tried to comfort Ginny, and most definitely Harry. And yet, even Luna Lovegood could not bring herself to reach out and try to soothe Merope's maudlin state of mind.

So, instead, she simply sat by the other girl, her hands in her lap. "No one deserves to be alone all the time, not even one of the heirs of Slytherin."

Merope was stiff, her hand went to clutch her heart as she laid there trying to recover. The girl frequently thought of Tom, the memory of her son had brought back something awful. Turning her head towards Luna slightly, she bit down on her lower lip,"...I do, I am an awful person." She rubbed the back of her head a little, laying there and not really being responsive as Luna didn't really seem to want to be there.

"....Y-You don't have to stay here...it's fine." She laid there, in misery, thinking far too badly of herself to properly recover enough to even want to move from where she was.
