While he may have been working, Jack kept a close eye on the Doctor -- ready to toss himself in front of the Time Lord if absolutely necessary. Jack knew there was something in the Doctor's expression that said they were only one bad tequilla bottle away from a very pissed off Doctor. And that, frankly, was something Jack had no intention of seeing. So if he had to take some heat for a while, so be it.
It wasn't that Jack didn't know what to do -- it was that he wasn't sure how to say it without it coming out like barking orders and look how well that had gone over the last time. Brilliantly, indeed.
"All well and good, but if one wall isn't secured --" Jack broke off and actually smiled when Logan approached. "Fantastic. Those'll work perfectly to brace the first wall. Once that's braced, then we can go about following the rest of Gambit's plan. If the wall that's about to collapse isn't at all secured, the moment there's weight against it, the whole thing will collapse like a deck of cards. Secure the wall with a couple of the new boards, lift the other as smarty-trousers suggested and support it. Then figure out how to rebuild the other two walls."
Frowning, Jack bent and started looking through the rubble for anything along the lines of a metal pipe for use of hammering. Grinning, he came up with one long piece and two more shorter ones. "These'll have to do by way of a hammer for now, unless anyone spies something in the rubble." Jack flicked his glance over at Remy. "Or unless the packrat's holding out on us where those are concerned."
