Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current mood: anxious
Entry tags:!dropped, amaterasu, day 11, location: gym, open, sid jenkins

When others tell you to turn around...
Who: Amaterasu and OTA (Sid or Tink, maybe?)
What: She's surveying what damage is done to everyone, and how she can help out.
When: Day 11. 9 am-ish?
Where: Gym
Rating: TBA, probably not very high, though.
Status: Active

It had been worse than Ammy imagined, the earthquakes, anyway. Lots of blood, and just about every trail, blood or just words, led her towards the gym. Her head swirled with possibilities, and none of them were filled with sunshine and happiness.

She wormed herself through the wreckage of the opening, with little damage done to her slowly healing leg and back. Once she was able to move around without too much of a noticable limp, she walked as best she could towards the area where the injured were, and as careful and quiet as a moonless night, krept through the rows of cots for the injured or even familiar faces; or, if someone just needed a faithful companion.

It had been a fairly sleepless night. Between the moans and groans of the others injured and taking shelter and the fact that every time he tried to move, his ankle screamed out in painful protest, Sid hadn't gotten much sleep. He supposed that was probably just as well, because what little sleep he did get was filled with nightmares.

Instead, he lay awake, staring at the ceiling barely held together above him and thought of Cass; how he was suddenly glad, for the first time in forever, that she was far, far away from him. How, even though he wished with every ounce of his being that she could be sitting there beside him, pushing his hair out of his face and telling him that she loved him or nursing him back like she had with Chris, he'd never been happier to know that she was somewhere he wasn't. Somewhere safe.

Sid thought of Anders and Jenny and Cheryl and wondered where they were. Anders wasn't in the gym and Sid was pretty sure that was where he'd decided to stay - to build the Pyramid court that they'd never finished. What little they'd managed to start was long gone in the rubbish of the remains of the building. Jenny and Cheryl usually stayed at the theatre, but he hadn't seen them, either of them, in days. If they were in there now...they wouldn't live, Sid didn't think.

He thought of Bob who didn't talk and Jay who didn't shut up and wondered if they'd been smoking weed just like he'd been about to; wondered if they'd gotten themselves safely out of the petrol station. He wondered if the petrol station was even still in one piece...Sid had no idea if the tanks of gasoline outside were empty, full, or somewhere in between. He hoped they'd been empty, but without being able to go look, there was no way of knowing.

He thought of the bloke named Cielo and realized he'd never bothered to ask where the other kept himself. He'd met him five days ago - Christ, had he really been here that long? - and had neither seen nor heard from him since. And, Sid thought of Logan and wondered where he was in this bloody mess. Whether he was still all right.

Most people around him were quiet and still; some where still sleeping. Sid resented them for the ability to do so as he lolled his head to the side to silently survey the wreckage near the door for what seemed like the millionth time since he'd gotten in. He remembered the Doctor dragging him in; remembered how much it had hurt to move through the rubble.

In his direct line of sight was an Asian woman, this time. She looked better off than he was, he supposed, but some people were better at hiding their pain. Sid didn't really bother to try. When the pain made him nauseous, he threw up. When the pain made him want to break down, he cried. There was no one to impress here and Sid didn't care if they all thought he was a giant poofter for crying when no one else seemed to be. He'd been through a lot in the past months...but the previous day had taken the cake, for sure.

"Oi, all right?" he asked, a little surprised by the quiet croak of his voice for the complete lack of use in the past twelve or more hours.

Amaterasu didn't sleep, either. She was busy the whole night, forcing herself to stay focused on finding that thing in the journals. Perhaps she was just a person now, without much power, but she would keep her promise, regardless. The moment it (that thing in the weird scrolls that reminded her of her arch nemesis, Yami) stepped into the glass prison, she would try her damnedest to tear it to shreds.

Once she heard a noise, her stance changed from cautious to alert mode, complete with her lips pulled back in a mockery of a wolf's warning, but relaxed when nothing seemed to happen.

Ammy turned on the pads of her feet, ignoring the searing pain in her leg and back (all that running made her wounds stay open, if not worse) as she faced Sid. She approached him calmly, like an old friend, but softly, choosing not to stare at his injury. "I think so. You?" She was careful not to be loud, to allow the ones who were sleeping their rest. Her voice was soft, and sweet, despite her obvious injuries.

"Dunno," Sid replied honestly, giving her a facial shrug, if only because he was unable to shrug his shoulders. Well, more accurately, he wasn't sure he was able to shrug his shoulders and he didn't want to endure the potential pain of testing the theory. "Been better, though, that's for bloody sure," he added.

Wincing slightly as he pushed himself up into a half sitting position, his elbows supporting his weight on the cot, he looked around. "Better than some of this lot," he said and felt equally as grateful as he felt guilty for it. Everything still hurt, but mostly, he thought it was twinging muscles. He didn't like to think of the possibility of internal injuries, because Sid knew nothing about that sort of thing. The idea of it only made him think of Tony back when he'd been in the hospital after the bus. "In any case...'m alive, which I suppose is all I can ask for, yeah?"

He paused, then, looking back at her. "I haven't met you, yet," he thought aloud. "'m Sid," he added to introduce himself.

She listened quietly, and patiently, thinking of a way to respond as Sid talked. When she was certain it was her turn, she said, "I think we've all been better, and we should be grateful that we're alive. Although it won't be the same for that thing on the weird scrolls," Ammy replied, then thought aloud, "I can atest for that.

"I'm Amaterasu, or Ammy. Anything will do, though," Truth be told, Amaterasu wasn't picky when it came to names, "It is nice to meet you, Sid," She smiled softly, and moved her leg a bit to get more comfortable. She wished it would heal quicker than what it was, but she wouldn't complain; most of the minor injuries were gone by now.

"Where were you when you got hurt, if you don't mind me asking?"

"That Insider bloke?" Sid asked, furrowing his brow slightly. "Yeah, right twat he is. I've got friends I haven't seen for days...dunno if they're dead or alive. Dunno if they're here or gone or what. 'm thinking if he's as smart as he likes to play at, he won't be coming 'round any time soon," he replied in a low voice. He was not as affected, perhaps, as others who had been around longer, but he was missing people still. He hoped they were all right. Soon as he found his journal, he would ask around.

The first name she gave took Sid off guard and he blinked, relieved when she gave the second. "Ammy, right. That'll be it, then, yeah? I probably won't remember the first...or else I'll go mad trying not to slaughter it," he joked with a weak smile. "Nice to meet you, too." All things considered, went left unsaid.

When she asked where he was and whether he minded her asking, he started to shake his head only to wince in pain. Bad idea, bad idea, bad idea. "Theatre," he replied. "'m better off than the Asian bloke who was with me...the whole sodding balcony fell on him. He's lucky he's bloody alive, still..." He paused, then, looking her over slightly. "What about you, then?"

L woke up, feeling sick and spent from the night before. Things were bad enough with his injury, but Laura's visit had been trying and disturbing in multiple ways. His bid at romance was falling apart, in a very literal sense, with Jay, Gambit, and Merope suddenly making appearances in what L had blithely assumed was a perfectly monogamous relationship. He still didn't understand why Merope kissing him while he was in pain was anything like Laura flirting while he was afraid that they'd never see each other again, or why Laura was angry about the fact that Merope had reached out to him the way she had, simply to ensure that he was not alone.

He was alone, now. Laura was gone, with the morning light, and a sleepy, exhausted daze seemed to hang over the gym. There were so many injured people... drifting in and out of lucid thought, L idly picked up his journal and began drawing pictures of turbellarians all over his journal. Narcotics made him do and say some strange things, but this morning, he was glad for the distraction. Turbellarians were non-parasitic Platyhelminthes, after all, and the more he thought about the way his relationship with Laura looked, the more his already strong self-hatred clenched around his rib cage. He was a parasite, just like the maggots and worms that were making homes in his lover. He was hurting her by keeping her from her true nature, and living off her at the same time. Maybe she would have been happier without him.

He was too busy drawing flatworms to notice that, during the night, the dental floss in his side had slipped slightly, and that he was starting to bleed again.

After Amaterasu had finished talking with Sid, she continued her soft, quiet walk through the injured who were sleeping, almost like a gargoyle (not that she was some piece of stone that was only kept for some decor, superstition, or some sort of fancy) that would go to the ends of her very existence for their safety.

And this was pretty much a slap in her face. Amaterasu was supposed to be a god, capable of defeating darkness itself; she should have been able to stop this cruelty before it even started, yet, she couldn't do a damn thing. The past day had rattled her into unease. Indeed, she was still worried, and hoped that the ones would be able to get along without her help -- No, she was certain that they would.

Carefully walking through the rows of cots, she hesitated (on her hurt leg, no less) when she smelled blood, new, apparantly. Her eyes turned, almost like lightening, towards L, not to suprise or alarm, but out of unease. When she located the bleeding wound, Ammy began walking towards
him, keeping mind of sleeping or those that didn't want attention.

"Your side. It's bleeding," She told him softly, pointing towards the wound. Ammy kept her voice calm, gentle, and soft, so she hopefully wouldn't bother anyone else around him.

L stopped drawing worms for a moment, his pencil wavering above the paper, as his turned his eyes toward a young Asian woman he hadn't met before. She was very pretty, and despite a hurt leg, she seemed to be going around and seeing what she could do to help the gym's many wounded. That included L, of course, but he didn't think he needed help... until she pointed out that he was bleeding. After almost two days of it, however, it wasn't so much shocking as exhausting and frustrating. He wanted to know that he would mend so that he could help Laura; he didn't want to keep coming undone and slipping backwards. In short, he didn't want to die.

He rested a hand against the crescent-shaped wound, sighing deeply. "Sorry to impose... but could you help me, if you're able? This has happened a few times..."
