Day 10 - Morning
Who: Kimihiro Watanuki & Edward Scissorhands
What: first meeting
Where: in the street near the theater; later in the teather
When: Day 10, midday
Rating: TBA
Status: Active

Watanuki was beside himself with worry. He'd stayed up until the early hours of morning waiting for Domeki to arrive and checking the journal in case he posted something, but there had been no word from his friend.
Eventually he'd fallen asleep curled up on a chair.

He didn't know how long he'd slept, probably several hours, but he didn't feel any better for it. His whole body ached terribly for the position he'd slept in, but he got up and had a tour of the museum in case Domeki had got back and stayed in another room for whatever reason. Obviously, he didn't find Domeki. He hadn't expected to. He asked around but it looked as if nobody had seen Domeki since the evening of the day before yesterday, when he'd talked about the clone with Watanuki

The boy didn't feel like eating, so he just made a quick note in his journal before heading out.
He wished Domeki had done the same. Just where could he be? Where could everybody be?
Domeki wasn't the only person missing - quite a lot of people hadn't replied during roll call and hadn't been seen at all. Andy had been asking about Luna the other day...
He didn't even know where to start searching. He could just walk around town and hope to at least find someone who'd met Domeki.
He didn't want to think about heading into the forest, not immediately at least.

Edward was determined today, as well.

The already scorching heat didn't bother him, as the cold hadn't in previous days. Even though he was encased in tight leather and heavy metal bits and buckles, the wide-eyed young man seemed impervious to changes in temperature. It was a good thing, too, since no one had ever actually removed his stiff suit and Edward wasn't quite sure if it was actually possible.

It was around noon, and Edward was hoping to find a place he'd heard referred to called the "theater." It sounded like a nice place, not too crowded, with pretty things and nice people. While Edward seldom "fit in" anywhere, there was a chance that he'd at least be accepted for a time before the people there found a reason to drive him away.

Just then, Edward noticed a young man of Asian descent... maybe Japanese? out in the street. He approached him, smiling timidly, having no pride and therefore no qualms about asking for directions.

"Sorry to bother you... I'm looking for the theater? It's a nice place, and people sleep there? Do you know, please?" he asked, his sweet, quiet voice and mannerisms at mind-blowing odds with his bizarre and frightening appearance.

Watanuki looked at the person in front of him, trying not to show his curiosity too openly. He was used to spirits and demons so the appearance of this man with blades where his hands should be hadn't been too surprising. He was worried he could be an enemy, like the clones, but his voice dispelled all doubts. Watanuki relied much on first impressions and he couldn't believe that this quiet person could be a danger.

"The theater?" Watanuki asked, looking around. He wasn't familiar with the area, but he'd just passed the theater building. "It's back there," he said, trying to explain. He couldn't exactly remember which turns he'd taken to get there.
"I could walk you there," he offered. He wasn't in a hurry anyway, it wasn't as if he had a destination.

"I don't think we've been introduced yet," he said with a polite smile. "I'm Watanuki."
He asked the same question once again, not really hoping for a positive answer.
"Have you seen Domeki lately? He's a boy around my age, taller. He might have been carrying a bow."

"Yes! The theater!" Edward confirmed eagerly, nodding his head stiffly the way a true Frankenstein monster did. He was so happy to meet Watanuki... usually, people acted frightened, or at least stared, but this young man actually acted like he'd seen people lime Edward before. He smiled shyly, glad that things were going well on this very beautiful day.

"Wa-ta-nu-ki? My name is Edward! You will walk with me? Thank you!" he expressed warmly.

Watanuki smiled back at Edward, a bit awkwardly.
"I'm sorry my name is so difficult to say," he apologized. It was a bit troublesome that most people were occidentals, but at least he was glad nobody had tried to give him a pet name yet. Most people managed to get his name right after a couple of times.

"I'd be glad to help," he said, looking around to make sure of where they were. It would be very embarrassing to lead Edward down the wrong way by mistake.
As they walked, he tried to make some conversation to fill the awkward silence.
"Where are you from?" he asked with some curiosity. "America?"
He certainly couldn't ask him if he was a robot, that wouldn't be much polite, but after several days in Vas Captio Watanuki had abandoned some of his old restraint in openly asking questions to strangers.

"So... you haven't seen Domeki?" he asked with a heavy sigh.

Edward shrugged good-naturedly when Watanuki apologized for his name. It was difficult, Edward thought, but that wasn't a bad thing. It was actually pretty interesting! "I'll get better, don't worry!" Edward promised, dedicating himself inwardly to mastering the inflection and pronunciation of the name.

Tilting his head perplexedly when Watanuki asked where he was from, Edward gave the best answer he knew. "Maybe? I lived in the Castle on the Mountain," He said, in all seriousness. "What about you? Somewhere different? And... no... no Domeki," he added, sadly.

"Please, don't let it bother you!" Watanuki said quickly. He didn't mind even if Edward got his name wrong and didn't want to sound fussy about it. He knew that some people were particular about it, but he didn't care as long as nobody started making jokes about April Fools. It didn't seem as if he'd have that problem here, though.

"The Castle on the Mountain?" Watanuki, repeated. "I don't think I've ever heard of that," he said, shaking his head sadly. He wished he knew more about geography. Maybe Edward was from another dimension, or maybe it was just that whatever translated their conversation had been a bit too literal this time. Either way, he had no clue.

"Me? I'm from Tokyo," the boy replied. "In Japan."
His reply was a bit distracted, though, since he couldn't take his mind off the fact that Domeki had been missing for over 24 hours and nobody at all had seen him. It was certainly not a good sign. The fact that his name hadn't been crossed out of that list in the journals like Light's had was the only comfort he had.

Edward was surprised at the boy's willingness to let the matter of the name drop like that. What a polite person!

"Yes, that castle!" Edward responded cheerfully. "I lived there with Father until he didn't wake up, and then I started to wait for him, but he slept for a long time! Then Peg came to visit me and she decided that I should live with her, and then I met Kim, and then..." his rambling, happy story ended quietly as his face fell. "And then I went back, and then I came here..."

"Tokyo" meant nothing to the reclusive Edward. Though the Inventor had had a globe, Edward's knowledge of Geography was limited to what he had actually seen. As far as he knew, Suburbia and Vas Captio were the only two countries he had ever seen. "Japan? Is that why you look different...?</small" Edward reached his hand toward his own eyes, but unintentionally sliced himself across the cheek in the process. While that used to startle him, he didn't even blink, now.

Watanuki shook his head and gave a polite but puzzled smile to indicate that, regretfully, he had no idea of where that place could be.
"It seems a bit like a fairy tale," he commented after hearing Edward's strange story. It seemed to be a bit sad for the man, though, so Watanuki hurriedly searched for a new topic of conversation.

He was used to people looking at him curiously because of his Asian features, but it was the first time someone had openly pointed it out to him.
"Yes," he answered, wondering which kind of universe Edward might come from. "Japan is an island..."
His words were cut off abruptly as Edward accidentally sliced his own cheek.
"Are you all right?" Watanuki cried out, worried. "You've got to stop the bleeding, maybe I have a handkerchief on me... A doctor, quick, call a doctor!"
He started rummaging in his pockets for the journal, and in his panic he didn't realize that Edward seemed quite unfazed by the whole ordeal.

Edward watched curiously as Watanuki started to panic, rummaging around for something to stop the bleeding and saying that someone needed to call a doctor. He glanced around, wondering which way he should call, until he remembered that doctors were hard to find. He had never seen the kind of doctor that Watanuki was referring to, even though he had heard of them in Suburbia.

You know, I have a doctor friend who I think can help you...

Edward supposed that it had slipped their minds, to introduce him.

"Don't worry... it's OK," Edward said, the scars on his face extremely indicative that it wasn't the first time he had cut himself. "It happens sometimes, but I'm OK. I promise. We can go to the theater?" he asked hopefully, waiting for the boy to calm down.
