Day 10. Early Morning
Who: Elliot Reid, Kim Boggs and eventually Andy Gallagher
What: Arriving
Where: Near the church
When: Early Morning
Rating: Let's say "R"
Status: Active

The smell of dirt was the first thing she was aware of as she began to regain consciousness.  Sacred Heart had a specific smell of disinfectant and sterilization that never really left her even when she went home and lit her candles - Mmm, apple cinnamon - and tried to leave the day behind.  She didn't mind it now as much as she used  to, had even come to embrace it as being part of a doctor, but now as she became aware of the sound of leaves rustling and birds chirping she recognized it's absence.    She thought she might be back in the free clinic, having fallen asleep on one of the beat up arm chairs in the tiny prison they called a doctor's lounge, the untrimmed hedge outside the barred window whispering to her that she was so much better than all of this, but as she opened her eyes and saw that she was lying on the ground in the middle of a clearing she realized this clearly wasn't the case.

She sat up and looked around her, her face screwing up in confusion.  How had she gotten from Sacred Heart to wherever here was?  The last thing she remembered was heading out to celebrate the fact that she had her old job, the job she'd loved, back thanks to a little Bob Kelso blackmail.  It might not have been exactly the way she would've liked to get back in the doors, but when the Chief of Medicine shows up at your free clinic with an STD he doesn't want the missus to know about, you've got to use it to your advantage.  Except now she suddenly worried that crossing Dr. Kelso had somehow gotten her stranded in the middle of nowhere.  He was a scary man and if the rumors were to be believed, the Devil.

"JD?"  She called out, sitting up and looking around.  She recognized the skirt and coordinated shirt number complete with the petite denim jacket she'd been wearing as they'd headed out with Turk and Carla for some drinks.  Except now it wasn't as cute, considering there was dirt all over it from her dirt nap.  She paused, considering that term.  No, this was no time to turn morbid.  She needed to calm down and find out what was going on.  "Carla?"  She felt something move in her hair and reached up to run panicked hands through it, pulling out sticks, leaves and a spider.

"Frick!"  She screamed, her voice high-pitched and freaked as she pushed herself to her feet and wobbled on her black pumps.  "Frickity frick!"

Her eye caught on a small package in front of her and she picked it up. She read the emblem on the front and then opened it, looking at it's contents with a furrowed brow. What in the world would she be doing with tic tacs, socks, matches, a suture kit and anesthetics. Now she was just getting freaked out.

"This is not funny!" She yelled, turning around in a circle as she looked out along the tree line. God, this was so not funny. It felt like something straight out of one of those serial killer biographies they showed on A&E. JD knew those freaked her out! She swallowed her eye catching another swatch of color in the undergrowth and she moved forward, her heart sinking as she approached the form of another girl on the forest floor, though she was relieved to see she was breathing. Something told her this was going a little far for a joke, even for JD and Turk. Something was seriously wrong.

"Hey," she said, reaching out and shaking the girl's shoulder. "Are you okay?"

The first thing Kim heard upon regaining something akin to consciousness was a woman nearby her screaming "Frick! Frickity frick!" It might have concerned her more if she hadn't been used to hacking it in the outdoors, heading out on weekend camping trips with her peers in high school. As it was, the soft forest-y noises surrounding her were sort of reassuring, right up until the point that something crawled over her leg. At approximately the same time as Elliot touched her shoulder, Kim shot up like a lightning bolt, standing and brushing the massive worm-y bug thing off her skin. Oh, ew. Ew ew a thousand times ew. She didn't mind creepy crawlies so much, but normally when she was camping she wore practical clothes, lots of bug spray, and made sure to sleep in a tent that zipped up all the way and had a screen. None of these things seemed to apply, considering her cute skirt, summery blouse and heels were now covered in a fine layer of dirt and leaves, and there was no camp-site to be seen.

"AH!" She pronounced loudly, brushing herself off and frantically spinning in a little circle, brushing herself off quickly to make sure she'd removed any stray critters from her hair and body. "Not okay, not okay, not okay, gross gross gross--" And then she remembered the slightly older blond woman who was standing there watching her act ridiculous. "Sorry," Kim murmured sheepishly, "I just had to get that out of my system. Better now." After a pause, she looked down at the spot where she had been unwittingly napping, and noted that someone had left her an odd variety of virtually useless items in addition to a large outdoor first aid/medical kit. Well, how thoughtful.

"Um, I wasn't planning on going camping this weekend," she began slowly, offering a 'weirded-out but still polite' smile to the other woman. "Should I know you? Do you...know where we are?" In the back of her mind, she admired the other girl's fashion choices. That really was a cute skirt.

The girl shot up and Elliot stumbled backwards in surprise, a scream escaping her throat as her hand went up to her chest. She stared at the girl with wide eyes as she brushed herself off and chanted to herself.

She dropped her hand to her side as the girl apologized and shook her head. "It's okay. I get it. There was a spider in my hair." She shuddered, her hand moving up to give her hair a quick run through. She looked down when the girl did, frowning at the matching kit and first aid kit. What the frick?

"Me either," Elliot said, lowering her voice and stepping forward. She shook her head. "No, I don't think so. I don't know who you are. And I don't know where we are." She swallowed, her shoulders tensing as she leaned in and lowered her voice even more. "I don't want to alarm you, but I think we might have been kidnapped."

Actually saying it outloud did a lot to alarm Elliot herself. Was she going to get raped? Murdered? Both? Were they going to find her body cut into seperate body parts? She could just imagine someone hauling her leg out of a creek. She really should've spent more time on squats at the gym.

She raised her head and looked along the treeline. "I don't know why we're out here, but they're probably watching us." She let out a shaky breath. "I think we've just got to start walking and try to find some help. I took four weeks of beginner's kickboxing, but that's not going to help much, since I dropped it for jazzercise." She paused, raising her chin slightly. "It's good cardio."

"Sorry, sorry!" Kim apologized once again, contrite from having scared the other woman unintentionally. She was sure they were both pretty on edge right now, what with the waking-up-in-a-strange-place and all, so she didn't blame her in the slightest.

"Ugh, gross. I hate the little crunchy sound the exoskeletons make when you squish them with a tissue. I know spiders are necessary, but they still freak me out a bit," Kim offered.

"Oh. Well, I'm Kim Boggs, nice to meet you...I mean, I think it's still nice to meet you even if we've been kidnapped--creepy, and unfortunate, but nice...unless you're the kidnapper, but that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense," she continued, thinking out loud. "But don't worry, I don't think you're the kidnapper. Putting a spider in your own hair is just unnecessary."

Kim was alarmed too, more than she could say, but at least she wasn't alone. Two could fight better than one, and between them, maybe they could make some kind of plan, or run, or something. Well, she hoped, anyway. She also hoped she didn't have to outrun Elliot if a killer was chasing them, because she'd feel really guilty about that later on.

"I was a cheerleader," Kim said in response to Elliot's gym contribution. "It's harder than it looks. But there isn't much punching involved, so I think walking is probably our best bet. Should we take the medical kits, do you think?" She didn't really want to, as she didn't want to need them, but they were probably there for a reason, as much as it sucked to admit that to herself.

Elliot nodded fully agreeing with Kim's assessment that spiders were freaky. The memory of having her hand brush against it's eight legs made her shiver and wrap an arm around herself. Ugh.

"I'm Elliot Reid," she said, surprised at Kim's politeness despite the situation. Not that it was a bad thing. Kim seemed sweet. She didn't want anything to happen to her. To either of them. She blinked as Kim went on. "What? No, I'm not a kidnapper. I'm a doctor." Her mouth opened somewhat in shock as Kim suggested putting a spider in her own hair would've been unnecessary. Who does that?

Elliot's eyes narrowed when Kim said she'd been a cheerleader. Her mind flashed back to mean girls in short skirts who wrote things about her on bathroom stall walls and made fun of her hair and the fact that she'd made out with the baseball coach in the back of his family van. She nodded, suddenly a little more distant, as she held up her own package and kit.

"I don't know what direction we should move in," Elliot admitted scanning their surroundings one more time. Then something caught her attention and she moved forward a little. It looked like a spire in the distance. "This way," she said, nodding before setting off in her heels.

"Oh. Oh, that's really very convenient, then! I'm really pleased to meet you, Dr. Reid!" Thank god. With a doctor around, they probably wouldn't die immediately. And maybe they could fend off the kidnapper or something. Maybe.

Kim watched Elliot's eyes go dark and a bit cold when she mentioned she'd been in cheerleading and she sighed. This was a common reaction. She probably shouldn't have mentioned it. "I know what you're thinking. But I wasn't that kind of cheerleader. There just weren't any other athletics on offer for girls at my high school. Except bowling, which, um...not really a sport? And I will never date a jock again as long as I live." Now it was her turn for her voice to harden, something like a quiet loathing (some of it aimed at herself) in her tone.

"Right. That way looks good," Kim echoed, taking up her own supplies and teetering off after Elliot. Honestly. What a crummy morning. Maybe they were making their way toward civilization, at least. She certainly hoped so. She hoped they weren't headed toward the killer's lair, right into his trap, only so he could...okay, enough morbid speculation there, Kimmy. Think happy thoughts. The stain will probably come out of the blouse, right? Yes. See? Happy thoughts.

Elliot couldn't help but give her a small smile when she seemed so excited at the prospect of Elliot being a doctor. It was nice to be appreciated for once. Most people just started asking her questions about personal ailments when she told them what she did for a living.

Elliot raisd her eyebrows in surprise when Kim said she wasn't that kind of cheerleader. Had her expression been that readable? She nodded when Kim said that the only other sport for girls was bowling, even though she had to fight down the urge to point out that cheerleading wasn't really a sport. Not really. She sighed when Kim said she'd never date a jock again. "I always wanted to date a jock," she said wistfully. The closest she'd gotten had been the coach and even then it hadn't been dating as much as an understanding Elliot still didn't understand that well. The only proof she had that they had been involved at all was the signature in her yearbook. Stop driving by my house. Coach McAdams.

"What was the last thing you remember?" Elliot asked, as she led the way through the trees towards the spire in the distance. "Do you remember anything unusual?"
