It was back to their game. Though, this time, Lexie didn't really get the sense that the whole challenge of holding back was really at issue; now it was like sticking your toe into the water just to see how cold it really was. As she stepped back, flowers in hand, she caught sight of his grin, and she thought, perhaps, whatever message she was hoping to get across had gone over loud and clear. Wait, what was the message again?

"Endocrine reaction and speedier cardiac rate causing a spike in metabolism.." Oh, yeah, she was just rambling. Totally rambling.

He was testing her again, wasn't he? Brushing his lips across her own before committing to a kiss that was oh so reminiscent of the ones in the pharmacy. It was high school, Lexie Grey, Valedictorian was making out with the class stud and feeling like she was moving at a million miles a minute. 24 years old and feeling like a teenager, what was going on?

Holding tight to the bouquet in one hand, the other found a home around his shoulder as her fingers twined into his hair. It was a sweet kiss. Not innocent, perhaps; but there was certainly a fair amount of non-verbal communication going on. His kiss was insistent, and the one she returned tried to spur him on. What are you doing? she kept asking herself. Playing the game; finding happiness in the middle of this mess; having the best make-out session since Jimmy Hooper. Maybe it was all that simple. Maybe.

With as easily as things came and went between them it had to be that simple. If there were complications in the way she and Dean interacted, Lexie had missed them and would be completely amazed to learn what they were. The banter came and went; the kisses were punctuation on rolling bouts of laughter; and each little brush with physical contact left her wanting more - no pretense, no subtle context. It was almost foreign to have something this effortless. Way to go chemistry.
